US is currently ranked 4th in the world and they will win ZERO games? I think you're the one baked, baked.

I don't care what rank the US has going into the tourney, they're gonna get murder in the group they're in. And look at the odds of them winning the tourney. 90:1. LMAO.

Rooney's injury was pointless, the Premiership was already conceded down 3-0 with 80 minutes to go. He should have been out of that game IMO.

OP: Why is ENGLAND in all caps in your poll? I think it gives unfair advantage to polltakers who dont know much about soccer. They will pick ENGLAND subconsciencely. No worries, I am rooting for them anyway!

Five Words: ENTIRE WORLD CUP IN HD

THANK YOU ESPN!

If you think that 4 means anything, you are deluded. Brazil's bench could beat the USA. The USA is 100X better than they were 10 years ago, but they still are not on a par with the elite countries.

As you can see from the above poll, most people see Group E as the "Group of Death" *** Italy will likely win the group, but that leaves 2 top 10 teams fighting it out to get into the second round. The USA will be fighting tooth and nail with the Czech Republic. That may be one of the top games of round 1.

*** "Group of Death" is a term used to describe a group or THE group that has three teams good enough to make it to the second round. Sadly, there is only room for two to advance from each group. Look at Group C (Argentina, Cote d'Ivoire, Serbia and Montenegro, Netherlands) Do you think there is any doubt that Argentina and Holland will advance?

Rooting for USA though their Group is killer. I think they can pull one vs Poland, they beat em 1-0 in an exhibition match recently. I personally look forward to watching Brazil, since, as mentioned previously, Ronaldinho is a beast.

When we play exhibition game vs USA we use our waramp crippled players vs that country. Be assured, you will never defeat us in real games.

You have got to be kidding me. Just 4 years ago they made the quarterfinals, and they lost on small lapse on D. They had 3 great scoring opportunities that just missed, and now they won't win 1 game?!? Please. They have arguably the best goalie in the world. Several of their players play in Europe. And all play in an organized club somewhere, unlike 10 years ago.

You guys are dilusional to think that they will get steamrolled. They will beat Ghana, count on it, they will beat Italy, count on it, they probably won't beat the Czechs, but it won't matter.

As for the odds, like any sport the odds fluctuate with the current betting. People, especially Europeans and S Americans underestimate the US in soccer because it's not seen as a big fan-based sport like it is over there. So they bet on the perceived favorites. Hell, Mexico's odds are better than ours but the US has beat them several times over the years and with Mexico's best team. I won't deny Brazil is the team to beat, but the US will hold it's own.

You don't think the same happens with the US? They had Tim Howard playing goalie the whole second half... We will see who wins 🙂

And they said the same thing about the US and basketball.

bet what, that the US will not win 1 game - since this is the point that led to the debate. I'm willing to bet that they win 1 game.

If they don't beat Ghana it will be a disaster. The real betting is on getting to round 2

You can not seriously think the Ghana is even a threat.

My point is that betting on the USA winning one game is not real action. Getting to the second round is what it is all about. It's conceivable that the beat Ghana, lose to Italy and tie Czech Rep. It would then go to the tiebreaking system which involves the usual goal differential, total goals, head to head record, etc...

If Czech Rep or USA can tie or beat Italy, the whole thing goes crazy as Italy suddenly get REAL vulnerable.

These possibilities and the global tension that hovers around it are what makes this the best sports even going... 😀

england always chokes in the big games 😉

They have some striker problems, who will they replace rooney with , crouch (?), bent (?). owen is coming of injury as welll. they are very strong in midfield but they dont have a go to stiker, like a totti, del piero, henry,

if Italy can hold their nerves they have a great chance, their defence is always solid anyway

as I mentioned, England's solution if Rooney is unfit would be a 5 man midfield allowing Lampard & Gerrard or Joe Cole to support either Owen or Defoe up front.

Also, don't be surprised if Aaron Lennon gets a call up - the guy is a lightning quick winger who can play right or left side. He's had an awesome season with Tottenham and would be a great surprise weapon to have on the bench.

Eh, I think putting the US over Italy is...ambitious. Italy steamrolled Germany not too long ago, and Germany walked all over the US in an exhibition. Granted, the US was fielding a bench team, but regardless, they got spanked.

If anything, I predict a draw against Italy, a win over Ghana, and a draw or if we're really lucky, a win over the Czechs.

Unfortunately for the US, they need to win their group to stand a chance of getting anywhere. The #2 seed from the US' group gets to face none other than the #1 seed from Brazil's group in the first round. And we all know the US will not beat Brazil.

That's so harsh...

Rooney injury aside, if England wins their group, they will likely play Poland in the second round. This is setting up an England / Argentina match in the quarterfinals. This will make WWIII seem like a chick fight...

There are few things better than England beating the Argie Bargies! 😀

Is the World Cup going to be aired in HD? I might take a day or 2 off of work to watch Italy vs USA and some other good match-ups.
