79% of the people with Android on this forum are running ICS or better.
People really need to stop quoting the worldwide 10% ICS adoption rate as an excuse not to get an Android phone.

I was wondering that myself. Were there even any devices out there with 1.0 that never even had the option for an update? I can't imagine that anyone would stay with 1.0 by choice.

I don't think the low ICS adoption rate ever had anything to do with being a valid reason not to get an Android phone. It was usually brought up as a reason why there weren't as many Android developers or as a potential reason why app quality on Android might lag behind that on iOS.

I suppose one could argue that the low adoption rate might indicate several carriers/manufacturers not putting out updates in a timely manner, but anyone who's really worried about getting the latest versions of Android could always go with phones from the Nexus line or other unlocked phones if they want to use their own ROMs.

However, I don't think that the low adoption rate for the latest versions of Android really has much of anything to do with arguments about which phone a person should get. At least, I can't recall any recommendation thread in recent memory where this was used as an argument against getting an Android phone.

You were on vacation or something? Sounds like you've missed a lot.

There was a thread recently about a month ago that some people kept on bringing up the 10% ICS adoption figure as an excuse.
I think the thread ended up getting locked up after getting to 5-6+ pages of useless back and forth arguments regarding Android's ICS update coundrum.

It wasn't a "recommendation" thread(or at least it did not start out that way).

That doesn't mean it's a good reason. They could have just as well said that lizard people control Android and so it's best to avoid it. 😛

It's been my experience that low adoption rate hasn't really been brought up as a reason not to get an Android phone. Perhaps as as reason not to develop for Android only or first, or why app quality appears to be lower on average than it is with iOS, but not as a reason not to get a phone.

That said, if you could be so kind to link to that thread so I could read it myself, I'd be grateful.

I agree with you that it's not.
The people that keep bringing up that ~10% ICS statistic were the ones mentioning it like it's supposed to matter or something. They certainly are not developers, and they weren't bringing up that ~10% ICS adoption figure as a reason for lower apps quality on Android.
The average salary for doctors worldwide is $20k. Why should that be considered important for doctors in Austin, Texas that earn an average of $150k+ to know about or affect their decision on whether they wanted to become doctors?
It's the samething here...79% of the people with Android on this tech subforum are running ICS and above. Why should it matter that ICS only has a ~10% adoption worldwide if one is a forum member here?
Yes, we are outliers on a worldwide basis...but on this forum it's those crazy people worldwide that are outliers, not us.

I am on 4.1.1 on my VZW GNex. I can't even remember back to 1.0. I think 1.5 was the first version I had on my Droid Eris
