BBC Video feed reporting 50 Iraqi tanks tried to mount a counterattack at Basra and tried to leave the city but it failed as British forces attacked them.

Saddam's Bunkers Said 'Impossible' to Destroy

"I believe that if Saddam does not leave, and I think he has nowhere to go, they will find him in one of these facilities -- if he does not find a way out by then," retired Lt. Col. Resad Fazlic told Reuters in an interview on Tuesday. "These bunkers can resist a direct hit of a 20 kiloton- strong bomb or atomic bomb impact and keep those inside independent of the outside world for six months," said Fazlic, who oversaw the building of the bunkers in the late 1970s.

Let's try it! Time to break out the nukes!!!

Nah, unlike OBL, I'd much rather have a body to show the world, it would likely quell the vast majority of whatever remaining resistance there is in Iraq afterwards. Of course, first we have to get to Bagdad...

EDIT: Considering what the Iraqis thought they had in terms of engineering and infastructure and what the USA was able to do to them in 1991, I wouldnt place too much creedence in this guy's opinion

If you are a subscriber do a full text search, there was a thread with A10s firing, but it was not at actual tanks. About 1-2 months ago, IIRC

They've shown it on the History Channel and Discovery Wings before. Awesome display of firepower. Also showed the amount of punishment they can take. The A-10s definitely earned their moniker.

Yugoslavia built Saddam's bunker?
Didn't they build the Yugo?
They weren't reliable enough to make it to their scheduled second oil change.
I'm prettey sure they were designed before the 'Bunker-Buster' PGM was made.

A Bunker-Buster PGM can penetrate 20 feet of solid reinforced concrete - or 200 feet of earth
before detonation of the payload. (Which may be a Neutron class weapon)
The 'Mushroom' shaped cloud rising over the initial strike looks supiciously familiar to me.

I'm all for a popular uprising, but civilians fighting against Iraqi irregulars without ground support from coalition troops sounds like a massacre in progress to me. And you can bet Iraqi TV (and then Al-Jazeera, of course) will show the slaughtered innocents and say America killed them...and the rest of the world will believe it. :(

British troops are there providing support.

Rumsfeld on TV...states surrendered troops total more than 3500

That's what I thought too ;)

Hopefully they did just as good a job buiding his bunker as the russians did building iraq's GPS-jammers...

I doubt there is a bunker that can withstand multiple hits from our largest "bunker busters". Could it withstand one hit, or maybe a couple? Possibly. But what about multiple strikes? Doubt it.......

Yea, though last I heard they want to wait until morning (Iraq time) to go in. I think that is a huge mistake unless they get the people to stop the uprise until morning. They need to get in there before they are slaughtered, not 8 hours after the fact.

Also, is it just me or is that Iraqi TV really being a pain in the ass? Why don't they do something about that? I know it's around a civilian area, but couldn't they just pirate the signal? I would think that overpowering a TV or Radio station would be a common issue in their "Psy-ops". I thought you could broadcast pirate signals like that from the air if you have the right equip. Am I wrong? Or if they can't do that, you would think they could get one of their best precision small impact bombs to just hit the base of the antenna. It wouldn't take much to take out a TV antenna. Then they could broadcast their own information.

Got them back for the lousy car they built.

Tag - You're it

Yugoslavian companies built a lot of palaces, airports, bunkers all over Middle east and also in Libya, being a part of the nonalignment pact.

and FYI: Redesigned Yugo is supposedly coming back to US market :)

Setup a studio to mimic theirs and get that guy from California who looks just like Saddam Hussein and alter his voice to sound the same and then start saying things like:

"I'm an evil dictator and I will kill Iraqi families"
"I surrender to the United States..."
"I like to fvck goats"

LOL, well... you can insert your own shows here, but the point is that it's dumb to keep letting him communicate his propaganda to his people. (It should be ours :D ) Ours is a LOT closer to the truth.

U.S. Says Ready to Rebuild Iraq Without U.N.
Don't like that. That's just opening the door to terrorist attacks on U.S. and British soil/interests.

I don't think so. Hopefully at the end of the war, the rest of the arab world will look at Iraq, see the people partying in the streets, realize that Saddam really was an ass and that he really did have WMD. And I would much rather have the US/UK do it themselves then try to have France/Germany/Russia horn in and try to do it their way.
