Against Saddam loyalists . Heavy explosions in Basra are not coming from allied forces according to BBC. Information is coming from a British embedded journalist and confirmed by British intelligence officers.

Really? I live in NYC and haven't much seen or heard them, not consistantly anyway. Right after 9/11 they were all over, but now I see and hear them again.

The Department of Homeland Security has ordered round the clock air patrols over New York, fearing reprisals for the US war on Iraq. The order reprises the patrols lofted after the attacks on September 11, 2001. The overflights were called off a year later.

Black Hawk helicopters and Cessna Citation small jet airplanes began their patrols Monday. They cover an area reaching out 80 kilometers (50 miles) from each of the three passenger airports that serve New York City: La Guardia, JFK International and Newark International, according to Asa Hutchinson, undersecretary for border and transportation security within the new Department of Homeland Security.

While an uprising is a good thing, i think it would be better if those against saddam(atleast the civilians) simply fled. Otherwise there will be high casualtys on those poor people who only want their freedom but have no military training. Saddam won't think twice of killing all of them. 🙁

Good. I think a lot of people were hoping that some of the Iraqi units, as well as the people in general, would begin to fight against Saddam's loyalists. This might just make the job of securing Basra that much easier and perhpas much less bloody for all involved.
