moved 1600 pounds of dirt and composted manure last night. need about a yard of peat and im all set for the new beds. Carrots and Peas are doing well. I need to thin the carrots and fertilize.

Have 2 Super Beefsteaks in pots that i started from seed. Sweet 100, Sweet Million and Mortgage lifter will go in one of the new beds. Ive got my potatoes in a brown sack ready for planting (Yukon Gold and Red). Cucumbers are ready to plant. Kinda late for lettuce, so ill wait for a fall crop. Need to plant the pole beans and peppers. Going to be a full weekend with everything else i have to do.

Kind of a light year for our garden

Roma tomatoes
Better bush tomatoes
Big boy tomatoes
Parker cherry tomatos
Blueberries
Blackberries
Strawberries
Assorted peppers
Spices - tyme, orregano, basil, rosemary, sage

And my Peach and Apple trees turn 20 this year and will produce more than I can eat and give away for sure

Alright, so I borrowed my Dad's "Mantis" rototiller to work up that hard clay :D

Got it all worked up into relatively small chunks. Tomorrow I'm going to grab a yard of compost, maybe a bit more for later usage. I'm also grabbing 3 13kg bags of sheep manure/spaghum peat moss mix and mix that in. The rest (likely about 2 yards) will be dirt. I hope this is a suitable mix... Please provide comments!

Also worked up my old 3' x 10' garden and it is ready for action. I bought a bunch of veggie plants today and I might throw a few in there tomorrow. Anyone know how long the plants should be safe in the little flats?

I'll list my veggie purchases tomorrow and provide some pics on my progress :) (7 flats of 4 plants each for just under 16 bucks.. I LOVE it).

Very productive day, I am whipped :) trimmed my perennials too :p

The strawberry plants have arrived. Originally, I was going to put in 500 this year, but when I sent my son to Miller's in Cananadaigua NY, I only had him pick up 250. I'll spread a few tons of compost tomorrow & til it in, then get them planted. :) But first thing in the morning, I have to replace 4 bolts that sheered off on the bucket of my tractor. Friggin tree root. (I eventually won.)

Those little Mantis tillers do a great job in small areas.

It saved my bacon... Just turning over that ground this morning with a spade was hard work!

I hope my planting mix works good.. Might throw some mulch in too :) gonna be exhausted after tomorrow lol :) can't wait to see how this turns out :)

Mystery squash plant has set fruit and looks to be a yellow straight-neck variety. Have several tomato plants setting fruit over the last week and thanks to having a good amount of rain appear every 4-5 days, I have yet to have to water them with the soaker hose.

done. ugh. I might plant a couple things on my old, established bed this weekend. Going to allow my new bed a little time to 'breathe'.

Now to catch the 3rd period of a hockey game :)

Have an awesome long weekend all :)

Plowing sucks. I looked everywhere for directions on how to set up the plow, but about the only useful directions were "it's an art form." Nonetheless, I went a little crazy plowing. BIG garden on the way. Spent half the day with the bucket on the tractor moving a couple years worth of old manure/compost piles onto the garden. Right now, I think you could call it a 100' x 50' raised bed there's so much compost on it (and that's not even half the garden.) Hopefully neither of my kids works tomorrow - time to til in the compost & plant 250 strawberry plants tomorrow (I had hoped to have them in today.) By next weekend, I'll plant a shitload of corn, peas, and beans.

I finally quit procrastinating yesterday and got the weed cloth and mulch on my tomato bed, plus put up the tomato towers. I have 3-4 tomatos on my Early Girls and maybe 1/2 dozen tiny ones on my cherry tomato plants.

Finished harvesting the first crop of radishes, planted 3 more rows. This time, it's one row of white icicle radishes, 2 rows of "watermelon radishes," and will put in a couple more rows of the French Breakfast and Red Globe radishes later this week.

I have a couple of small jalapenos, my serrano is in bloom, and my bell pepper plants are about to explode in blossoms. (one plant has over 30 flower buds already)

I think that once we get out of this unseasonably cold weather, (not complaining...it's much better than our normal ~100F) the garden will take off like gangbusters.

everything is done but the potatoes. gonna plant them tonight. Ive managed to overcrowd my garden every year for the past 4 years. Hopefully i scaled back enough this year to get a better crop.

Well my first batch of Spinach should be big enough to pick for salads next week. Then I'll plant another row see if I can get that to come in before it gets too hot...

My collard greens should be ready in 2 weeks.

My sage, rosemary, thyme, basil and garlic are all looking healthy.

Tomatos, cukes and cantaloupe are still smallish but with this warm weather they have all more or less doubled in size every other day for the last week.

Planting my Anaheim peppers today as they are finally big enough in the peat pot to transplant.

Should I put mulch down in my garden now? It's starting to get warm here and in Virginia, we have a lot of clay in our soil.

Have strawberries the size of marbles. Tomatoes the size of golf balls (love early girl for this very reason). Zucchini blossoms out the wazoo.

All the hot and bell peppers have little ones. Broccoli and cauliflower already have heads. Looking forward to some yummy eats.

All my spring lettuces have been going crazy and we've been eating off them for about 3 weeks. It's starting to get hot here in the upper 80s so they won't last much longer.

The radish seeds I planted on the 23rd are already sprouting. So far, it looks like over half have popped out of the soil. That was fast. Normal germination for most radish varieties is 7-10 days. Our weather has been cool and rainy all week. Not sure if that is the reason for the quick germination.

Lots of small tomatoes. Plenty of squash blooms, no squash yet. Pepper plants are blooming and have set some small peppers which are growing very slowly.

Put in 2 rows of carrots and 3 more rows of radishes this morning. I SHOULD have radish sprouts by early next week and carrot sprouts by next weekend.

My tomatos are covered in blossoms and there are a few tomatos that are 2-1/2" to 3" already.

i was under the impression that it would never be a bad addition to your soil... i was going to add some to mine initially but the yard of compost i picked up had some wood chips in it, so i figured that would do the job of helping to retain a bit of moisture...

hmm perhaps it is time to upload a pic :hmm:
