In all fairness.......... Bert was responsible for 60% of the injury but the other 40% was the pile of players that jumped on them.

Bertuzzi made a very cowardly move.
Worrell and Brookbank were not much better.

Those refs definetly did a piss poor job with their penalty calls and keeping order in the game.

it looked like he was responsible for the majority ie something like 90+% of the injuries he sucker punched him and then slammed his head on the ice....i think people jumping on you is not gona be nearly as bad as that

TWO GAMES?! TWO GAMES?! McSorley is NO LONGER PLAYING HOCKEY and he did almost THE SAME THING! Bertuzzi deserves a LONG TERM SUSPENSION (a minimum of a month, no less).

yea and worrell punching the guy on the bench wasn't good either.......i can sorta understand some fighting between players on the ice but punching a guy on the bench is almost as bad as what bert did

It was mostly when he hit the ice. The punch didn't do all that much, the pile didn't help, but it was the ice that did it.

Bertuzzi was not trying to get into a fight. Moore was skating away from several Canucks, avoiding a fight, so Bertuzzi drops his stick, clocks Moore in the head, and then (seemingly) smashes his head into the ice. That was not "trying to get into fight", that was headhunting. Bertuzzi deserves a LOT MORE THAN A LOUSY FIVE GAME SUSPENSION.

McSorley was suspended for the rest of the season and his incident was worse. Bertuzzi's wasn't as bad, but still really bad. I wouldn't be surprised if he got suspended for the rest of the season, although that's probably the upper bound of the suspension.

VANCOUVER (CP) - Colorado Avalanche forward Steve Moore was taken from the ice on a stretcher after being pummelled to the ice from behind by the Vancouver Canucks' Todd Bertuzzi during the third period of an NHL game Monday night.

Bertuzzi grabbed the back of Moore's sweater and delivered a round-house swing with his gloved right hand that struck Moore's head. Moore fell head first to the ice under the weight of Bertuzzi, who came down on top of him at the 8:41 mark. Colorado was leading 8-2 at the time.

A pool of blood formed around Moore's head as he lay motionless on the ice. A stretcher was wheeled out and after a delay of nearly 10 minutes the 25-year-old native of Windsor, Ont., was taken off for medical attention.

Colorado coach Tony Granato, screaming at Vancouver coach Marc Crawford, had to be restrained at his team's bench. Bad blood between the two teams had been simmering since Moore's hit on Vancouver captain Markus Naslund during a game Feb. 16 in Denver. That resulted in Naslund suffering a concussion that cost him three games.

Moore wasn't penalized for the hit and the league took no action. That was of little solace at the time to Crawford, who called Moore's hit ``a cheap shot by a young kid on a captain, the leading scorer in the league.''

Vancouver entered the game Monday night one point behind Colorado atop the NHL's Northwest Division. There were several fights in the game before Bertuzzi attacked Moore. It was the last regular-season meeting between the teams.

It's part of the game. There is a code that goes along with it. If two guys want to go at it, then that's something they can do. They don't hurt anyone but themselves. Clean fights are perfectly fine.

You need to watch hockey a lot more if you think a long term suspension for fighting would solve anything. All it would do is induce players to take far more cheap shots because they have nothing to fear. Yes, I admit there's a lot of fighting in hockey. But I think hockey would be worse off without it.

Here's how hockey works:
You hit someone in a rather questionable play, in the next game the other team goes after you and fights you, not attacks you. Tonight was hockey at its worst, don't judge hockey by this game alone, please. Watch more hockey before you do something awfully rash.
