Recommended System Requirements

* NVIDIA 7800GTX+ or ATI x1300+ Video Card

Wow! At last, the long-awaited UT3 requirements.

I don't understand this part...a Radeon x1300 would be a "recommended" spec? Maybe the game runs much better on ATI cards than nVidia cards? If an x1300 is "recommended" then the game should scream on my x800xt.

Does anyone know what "recommended" means in terms of frame rates? I suspect that the "recommended" hardware's performance won't satisfy most serious gamers.

I wonder how important it is to have a dual core CPU. Do those CPU speeds refer to Pentium speeds and not AMD speeds? Wouldn't a single core Athlon 64 3500 (2.2 Ghz) be much more powerful than a Pentium 4 2.2 Ghz single core? Could a fast single core hold its own against a lower-clocked dual core?

or maybe the recommended is simplay based on SM 3.

Specs are bunk, hence why i didn't bother posting them here when they were first released.

That being said, i'm sure the game scale well.

But i don't put stock in what they list.

Thats pretty freakin sweet. The UT engines have always played well on low-mid range game systems.

Not when they first came out. I'm highly suspect of what kind of experience merely meeting those specs will provide.

I played the original UT for a long time on a system just barely meeting the minimum specs. This included the original demo. I think it's more than fair to say UT games have played well on low-end systems.

I can't say what UTIII will bring though.

I don't think I have ever been happy with the way any Unreal game has played on any system I had when it came out, going all the way back to the first one and up until the last one. I'm guess I'm being a bit picky, but I've personally had to upgrade for every Unreal game to get performance I was happy with.

13.6 here, although I exaggerated my 8600M GT as an 8600 GTS (no 8600 GT option?).

I would be extremely happy with med settings at 1280x800.

20.04 for me. That's pretty good, but I'm still expecting to get a new gfx card. Either a new 9x, or a reduced price 8x card.

I'll have to play at low-medium quality, but as long as I can run it at my lcd's native res I'll be happy.

Really? I was running UT2004 on a P4 3 ghz with 9800pro when it came out. The system was put together for general gaming about 6 months before the UT2004 demo even came out and the full game ran at highest settings no problem at 1280 x 960.

The scale on that test is weird. I get 20.5 with my X1900XTX system while others here are getting 24 with cards that are twice as fast.

Yea definitely a weird scale. I am running a 8600gt but will probably upgrade to a 8800gt when they are released.

Time for some small incremental upgrades.

brand new X1950XT 512mb...yeeeees. But then again I bought a 7600GT a year ago fully expecting to play it last year. Wasn't this game originally developed on 6800 ultras? So tech has leaped ahead of the software since then.

get 19.1 with my opteron rig...didnt add the overclocking values in for the 8800GTS though.

edit: i get 21.36772 with my opteron @ 2.6Ghz and my 8800GTS at 600/2000.

17.92206 High C2D OC'd @ 2.4GHz, X850 XT

15.5844 Med-High C2D @ 1.8GHz, X850 XT

CPU seems to give a nice boost.

I build my rigs to run ut well. my last rig was built to run exceptionally ut2k4, so with this release, i will wait to see some benchmarks and jump on whatever cpu and gpu run best. in the meantime, my machine should handle playing it well, but not great

Winnar. Based simply on SM3 capabilities.

Like Bioshock.

I'm as eager as the next guy, but I'll just wait and see. I don't want to make an expensive decision based on some speculative algorithm. However, it is kinda cool, like reading my horoscope.
