I think it was the Argentina/Cote d'Ivore match-Shep referred to Shaq and the NBA Finals and the World Series while doing the commentary.

I'm actually glad that B. Arena got his chin rocked. He's always been a pompous ass for a coach, and it became worse after the '02 cup. Check out the Italy vs. Ghana game, great pace and lots of opportunities.

Well, I wasn't trying to be literal, but your point is valid. They system is meaningless, and the US media has been using it to hype up this World Cup and now the team is sitting in the locker room having to think about an embarrasing loss with every "new" soccer fan wondering why such a "great" team played so poorly...
