WOW, The Tribes single player is WAY better than I expected. Flashbacks, multiple characters, many unique missions. I'm having a lot of fun.

AH! Awesome to hear. I've been reading about some very good user reviews of the SP as well, so  to the dev team for that...

Of course I had to choose this week to take a week off from Tribes... :D

yeah, SP rocks. Cheesy but priceless one-liners...
The MP is quite good and Irrational Games now has released a package for a dedicated server that doesn't require the CD to be in the drive so we should see more good dedicated server for the multiplayer.
By the way, there are 15, not 11 multiplayer maps.

A little self promotion here:
The Factor VIII Contingency is recruiting for its Tribes:Vengeance team. For more details visit www.f8team.com, or simply come play our server (Factor VIII)

Oh man, the assassin in the single player missions is the biggest pimp ever :).

Modeps, I can't make that comparison yet because I havn't played multiplayer and Tribes2 was really only good for multiplayer. What I do know is that the multiplayer of Tribes3 compares more to Tribes1 than Tribes2. The maps are more action packed and chaotic. The light armor _almost_ brings me back to the Quake1 days of speed (but not quite :))

When I get home tonight, I plan to beat the SP, at least I think I'm close to the end of it cuz I've been on so many missions.

Yeah, I think that's my problem. I play a lot more SP than MP... Not a fan of games that you've gotta play day and night to get as good as everyone else out there.

Modeps: I found this link at VE3D that addresses your Single player questions.

- 12-14 hours single-player story for experienced Tribes players; more for those new to the franchise

- Very very very good story that plays out like a Tarantino movie with seemingly interrelated scenes and stories coming together to form a cohesive and exciting plot

- Great character models with excellent face synching (not just lip sync)

- Good level design with the occasional weak area missing a spit and a polish

- Good graphics all round thanks to a modified Unreal engine that will be powering BioShock, Irrational's next title

- Varied missions featuring anything from base defence to skiing practice; game initiates new players to every facet of the multiplayer experience. This alleviates the complaint found with the Dynamix games where the vertical learning curves drove players away. Game constantly features a new challenge for players to overcome, with some being totally unexpected.

- Very good voice acting for the majority of the game, although you might feel like slappin' that whinny bint on the first level; "aiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeee"

- Very enjoyable multiplayer experience that has been improved since the beta. Levels are still a bit on the small side for people used to T2 and T1, but that's nothing that can't be fixed by mappers. A plus of the small levels is that it does keep things mighty hectic.

- Did I mention the really good story/single-player campaign?

I've played more single player Tribes V than Doom 3. One thing for sure.....the story, environments, missions are much more varied. Then again, Doom 3 doesn't have much of anything in regards to missions and environments.

I should try the demo before I ask this, but oh well...

Can you still build stuff like platforms, forcefield walls, laser turrets, machine gun turrets and all that stuff?

Being an engineer was the best job ever in Tribes 1 and Tribes 2. Tribes 1 is my favorite multi-player game ever, but theer aren't any good servers anymore. Tribes 2 was great, but it only lasts a year or so, then everyone converted to CounterStrike full-time.

You are going to have to wait for mods, the original base games for T1 and T2 didn't allow for anything like that.

Wait until those mods come out before you buy the game if that is what you are into, you'll probably end up saving $10-20 by then.
