NEW TRAILER!

Access Gamer 8.4
"If you?re a veteran or new comer alike, Tribes Vengeance is sure to fulfill both your multiplayer and single-player gaming needs with its unique features, worthwhile graphics and that good ol? Tribes entertainment."

Gamespy 4 stars (out of 5)
"The latest Tribes game isn't as innovative or deep as the previous installments, but makes up for it with pulse-pounding online action and a rewarding solo campaign."

Gamezone 9.0
"In the first ten minutes I was hooked. This game went from being something I was vaguely interested in to the top of my must haves list.

Warcry 9.0
"Let?s just say the day I got the game, I played it for about eight hours solid. In addition, the game has kept me coming back over and over for the multiplayer aspect as well. This is definitely a game whose entertainment value is worth your hard earned cash."

ActionTrip 8.2
"In all, the single-player game is done well. The missions you are presented with make for a pleasant departure from the frenetic online experience. It is refreshing to enjoy the hallmark Tribes game play elements set in a series of missions that make up the single-player, space opera story."

Gamespy impressions

All I gotta say is, can't wait til I get the game!

Yes you would still need a key in order to play, and for now that's only available to FP subscribers...

I think you would _still_ need a CD key to play this MP beta, which will, for the next week, be available ONLY through Fileplanet

So we'll have to wait til then... :|

I played a tad bit of it this morning, and it stays true to the old Tribes gameplay. I'll give a bit more impressions if I play some more tonight.

This may be a stupid question, but it doesn't feel like you're playing a ut2k4 mod does it? When I heard that it uses the unreal engine, I was a little worried that the game would come out feeling like a modified version of ctf.

Looks like I found it - If you want it go to File Mirrors and get the "tribesv_mpbeta_en.exe" file.

Probably still going to need a key though... :disgust:

oooooooh yea. I'm playing the beta. Mad fun :). They've still got a bunch of bugs to sort out. Your PC can freeze if you use the inventory stations as light char. The jeeps don't spawn properly. But all in all, it is wicked fun and does stay true to Tribes. It doesn't feel like Unreal and I didn't even know it was the same engine until you mentioned it. The gameplay feels more fluid / fast than Unreal.

Does it feel like Tribes or Tribes2? I loved the original Tribes with the Renegades mod but never got into Tribes2. I think I played it about 2 weeks before uninstalling. It's been collecting dust on my shelf since then.

Not at all, the jet pack and skiing system definately make it a unique game. And I'm pretty sure that they're using a different physics engine as well (not the UT one). The weapons and armor class/inventory system are very Tribes-like, not UT.

The only thing that might seem all to similar to UT would be the vehicles and turrets, but the fact that (according to the Tribes universe) the individual armors worn by Tribes warriors were developed to replace the vehicles of war (too clunky and not agile enough). It still holds true as a smart player can definately bring down vehicles without too much trouble on their own.

From VU Forums

Tribes: Vengeance is almost done. It's been quite a trip. Video game development takes a long time. It's been nearly three years since we first got the call from the Sierra guys with a simple question: "Hey, what do you guys think of Tribes?"

Frankly, I was suprised they were thinking of Irrational for this game. After all, wasn't Tribes a multiplayer, team-oriented shooter? What about Freedom Force, System Shock 2 and Thief made them think we were the team of choice for this project? "Well," they said, "we really want this game to have a story..."

The biggest challenge for us was the fact that we were making two games. One of which (the single player) we had a fair amount of experience with. The other, (the multiplayer) we had a lot to learn. And to school ourselves, we turned to three solutions. First, we had a team at Sierra (Thrax, Menzo, Marweas) that lived, breathed, and quite likely eat Tribes. Second, we expanded the team to include people like Michael Johnston to make sure we were on the right track. And finally, and perhaps most importantly, we listened to the community.

Let me just say this: The Tribes community is freaking nuts. I've never seen such a passionate, intense, vocal and dedicated group of fans. It has been an honor and pleasure to come into this fully formed community and try to make something that looks, sounds, plays and _feels_ right to them. It has been challenging, confusing, frustrating, perplexing, and incredibly rewarding. We've done our level best. The game is nearly there. But that's not the end. Because Tribes has, and always will, belong to the community. That's what Tribes: Vengeance is more moddable and flexible than any other Tribes game. We wait to see what you think of what we've done, and perhaps more importantly, how you are going to top us.

Up for the single player demo. Again I must stress that it's very short (for Tribes vets, anyway)

Not going to get the sp demo, played in closed beta. I am deffinitely buying this. I wonder how they will make SP involved and unique?

Good idea NOT to get the sp demo, like I said - finished it in 15 minutes. Hmm, come to think of it, it was only on normal difficulty... gonna try it on "hard" and see if the AI is any better...

I'm definitely buying this one as well! This will most likely be the 3rd of 4 FPS shooters I buy this year -- after UT2004, BFV. Guess what the 4th one will be? ;)
