That sure was difficult.

How about the fact that the entire concept of the movie was contra to the original show? I've pointed this out multiple times and no one has disagreed with me yet. Spielberg himself even pushes the movie to be a bout a boy and his car:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transformers_(film)
Spielberg pitched it to them as about "a boy and his car"

That's not what Transformers was about. That's someone looking to milk off rabid fans and try to entice more people by making it into a family-oriented film. I enjoy most remakes a lot more than most people do, but I did not enjoy this film. My expectations were high, they were not met.

What can I say? I loved the toys/cartoons/animated movie/franchise, and I freaking loved this movie. I'm sorry that you let ridiculous expectations get in the way of you enjoying this. I can't help that you have a complex that won't allow you to shove your grudges aside to enjoy the many good aspects/moments of the movie. I seriously feel bad for you. Are you one of the LotR weirdos that HATED the movies because Tom Bombadil wasn't in them? I hate to generalize, but that's totally what you come off as.

32 yo male here!
i remember going to toys r us and seeing soundwave and optimus prime and walking out the door with both (i love my mom and dad!!)

and between my brother and i we had the best transformer collection on the block.

this movie rocked. And I hope that there will be many more and (dare i say it) i hope michael bay does another one!

Obviously you're just grasping at straws here because you can't actually argue against my largest point about why the movie isn't that good. No, I am not a LotR fan at all and have I once mentioned that I hated the movie because Welker wasn't the voice of Megatron? No, I have not. Although, I think it would've been a bit more reminiscent with him in it.

I went expecting transformers, I got Even Stevens with some robots. Hell, Michael Bay even said that Transformers were just "kiddy toys" or something like that and only gained respect for them after he visited Hasbro. I think what he really gained was dollar signs in the eyes for how to milk all the sorry nerds with his crap he puts out.

I'm not "grasping" at anything. I'm just seriously perplexed as to how a genuine fan of the franchise could actually claim to have a complete dislike for the movie.

What is your greatest complaint? The human element? Would you have preferred a full-CGI movie set on Cybertron? I'll pass, thanks. They made the story to be on Earth. Where humans live. I honestly thought the "boy and his car" focus was brilliant. Because myself, and I'm sure hundreds of thousands of other Transformer fans would have loved to be in that boy's position. Pure fantasy, of course. But it was entertaining to me.

Well anyway, I just don't know what further to say about it. I'm genuinely sorry that you allowed yourself to not enjoy the experience.

Maybe it's because I hate it when people make something out to be better than it is? I don't hate the movie, I just don't think it was as good as it could've been with a lot of the talent and machinery behind it. They put a ton of effort into it and I just thought it could've been better. Yes, I used to watch the show religiously... I woke up early for school as a youngster just to watch it and then Sonic the Hedgehog (I can't remember which was on first.. it started at 6 I believe). I had most of the toys and I think I cried like a baby when I lost my metal die cast Starscream in a horse pasture (I lived in the country). I think it fell down a gopher hole 😛.

No, the problem for me is that in the first half of the movie, the transformers were practically non-existent and you just had frenzy jibbering like a fricken' gremlin on the screen. Whoop-dee-doo, I'd rather watch Gizmo any day over that (I love that little guy!)

I don't mind the bond between a boy and his car if it wasn't practically the whole movie. I went to transformers to see some robots kick some decepticon hide, but I didn't really feel satisfied 🙁. I went home and watched the dinobots episode and felt better.

Im a huge G1 Transformers fan. I watch the Show and the original movie from 86. that doesn't even count the Crapload of G1 MISB Transformers toys i have. My favorite part of the movie was hearing Peter Cullen's Voice. Deal with it.

Deal with it? I am dealing with it. Did you think I was just tromping around my house in a violent rage about how someone could not like the movie? Calm down, Defensor.

I feel your pain. I think I lost more than 1 Transformer to the bowels of my community sandbox. 🙂

I miss that starscream.... the die-cast were by far the best ones, although a bit heavy compared to the plastic ones.

Oh and as long as Grimlock is in the second movie, I will love it no matter what... well, unless they have Grimlock reading the best of Hawkings. This of course excluding the episode where Grimlock bit Vector Sigma's cables and got super smart and built the technobots.

So what if the movie deviated from the original show? Did you really want a frame by frame remake of a 20 year old cartoon? I certainly didn't. If I ever felt I needed to see the original show, I'd watch the original show.

There were some things I felt could have been done better, but in all honesty the end result was pretty spectacular. Yes, it was geared more towards a family movie, but it did pay a lot of respect to the original show.

agreed.

not to mention, who the hell cares if the movie itself was about a boy and its car. The back story is still there, and ever present whenever Optimus Prime talks.
Don't worry, you'll see a lot more of the story with Transformers 2. Starscream will probably lead more Decepticons to Earth, Optimus and the rest of the Autobots will fight them off, and I can almost guarantee Megatron will come back as Galvatron and probably kill Starscream. I hope he doesn't kill Starscream, but I bet there will be a fight and at the least Starscream will probably be sent off into space, defeated and weak.

Thats almost what I was thinking 2 would be about. I'm sure Galvatron is going to show up, but I would like to wait until part 3 maybe. We didn't get enough of Megatron in the first film. There were talks about Unicron at some point. If they do that then save Galvatron until the 3rd film. Just hope if Unicron shows up he isn't a cloud.

I just came back from seeing it again. Just as awesome as the first time, maybe more because I noticed more things and I knew to stay around for the last 3 scenes at the end.

In what way does she not look good....exactly?

The angle of the shot could have been more flattering for her.

Megan Fox looks f0cking hawt in the movie, in most of the scenes. But the primere shot is 'okay' due to the composition. The red lipstick is also too red for her skin tone and shes looking rather orangegy 😛

I don't know what it is but Megan Fox was a lot hotter IN the movie... just like Scarlett was in The Island. Outside of it, they aren't as much. Could be the hours of makeup everyday on set. 😀

Like I said, the original show was Robots vs Robots and the humans were just kind of there. This was more like Humanity vs Robots with some Robots as assistance. Heck, they said the idea of the movie was more about a "boy and his car" than anything else... that's not transformers.

who gives a fuck? it's a movie not a cartoon.

Sam Witwicky wasn't a metrosexual in the old cartoon, though.

plus, in this modern day, if a filmmaker completely ignored the capabilities of the military, it would make people rather upset.
