been running launcher ex, it might have made it worse :hmm:

I use ADW.Ex myself, it pretty much nuked all the Sense lag.

Is there a consensus 'best' kernal, and 'best' ROM right now? Sorry for asking so many questions, I literally know next to nothing about smart phones.

The TB requires some effort to root, you should not attempt it until you've done some research. The TB isn't a one click root like many other phones. Read up, use the phone, read some more. You won't hurt yourself by not rooting it, and you'll give more time for the various roms to mature and refine.

hmm i still haven't gotten the OTA thunderbolt update
has the reboot issue been resolved tho?

i read i have to change it to non 4g or 3g in order to force the update

Check out http://www.thunderboltforums.com. They have a section for rooting/hacking, and it made it VERY simple as long as you follow the guides laid out. I'm sure there are many other websites/forums as well.

Well, I think I'm going to cave in and by the Evo3D tomorrow. If I could choose between the two I'd buy the Samsung Within. Since that's not even rumoured to be released until August-September I'll have to go with what's available. It's a shame...

I've never had any random reboot problems, so I'm not keen on tampering with a working MR1.

I thought MR1 was the OTA that started causing the random reboots? I skipped that radio, moving to MR2 and 2.5. MR2 was stable, with solid signal strength and good handoff between 3G and 4G. MR2.5 seemed to cause oddness with the SD card unmounting itself. Went to MR2 again, and that went away.

Now, I'm back on the release, pre MR1 radio, in order to run OMFGB nightlies. MR2 support just came out in a test version of the last nightly, but I'm going to wait until a few more nightlies come out first before I flash it.

MR1 has issues when signal strength falters. i have gotten tons of reboots when switching b/w wifi and 3G, or from airplane to 3G. sometimes i get random reboots walking through dead zones in my office building.

But MR1 was from that first OTA, correct? Release, MR1, MR2 and MR 2.5 are all different radios.

I actually think there's one more floating around from the latest RUU leak, but the version numbers on these things are all over the place.

release is .0223, MR1 is .401, then there is MR2 which is GB only, MR2.5 which is for GB and the froyo RUU that came with it.

MR1 causes reboots when you're in poor areas of reception (underground, deep inside a building, etc.). for people who are on wifi most of the time, they won't get these rebooting issues unless they happen to transition out of wifi into a bad reception area.

MR2 was suspected of causing some bricking, though that has yet to be proven.

MR2.5 is the latest leak, and its for the latest froyo RUU and works for the GB ruu.

I'm thinking of cancelling this line on my phone and paying the fee just to get away from Verizon's ridiculous stance on updates or lack of. This was supposed to be a top of the line phone but 1 year old devices have Gingerbread already and the Thunderbolt doesn't!

Sprint is looking mighty tasty to me.

It's not Verizon's fault that the phone isn't getting an update. If the phone doesn't pass the soak test, than it's HTC's fault for putting out buggy software. However, if Verizon let HTC release the buggy software, they would be the ones to blame.

Consider that the Thunderbolt was supposed to be the phone to debut Skype Mobile with Video. Still MIA, even though Skype Video is on other phones. Verizon's flagship phones are a bit of a joke.

Edit - Incidentally, 7-01 Nightly for OMFGB is up now.

I'm in a concrete basement at work, my house has almost no signal, still no problems. Factory radio setting, the codes look like an MR1. *shrug* Got lucky, I guess.

yeah you did

seems mine does it a few times a week

anyone got a good ringtone program?

I loved how my blackberry let me assign ringtones to both contacts calling, but also them emailing or texting me, and different tones for different email accounts.

I have a group of 8 emails that SMS page me from work for emergencys that I wish I could give a different ringtone to, and I liked having my wifes texts beep differently and I cant seem to do that in droid

I believe you can assign different ringtones to different callers with stock Android? And I know you can assign different tones for texts using Handcent.
