Schaumburg from the city is easy. 290 to the Woodfield or golf exit, or 90 to the 290 exit and follow the big pretty green sign that says "schaumburg...

If you need a ride there I may be able to bring up to 3-4 people...

We shall see what the majority wants, I want Schaumburg but I'll let the majority decide.
Just understand that I am driving in from West Lafayette, IN for this.:p

I don't think I'd go to Schaumburg if we go.

I don't see the point for me, if I go there it's a big hassle to get out there, and afterwards not many bars in the area to go out afterwards.

Plus Schaumburg != fun area. Schaumburg is ok w/ Woodfield and all, but it's not exactly a fun area. Gold Coast, Lincoln Park, Lakeview is a lot more fun and cooler. PLus if the D&B sucks more options exist in Chicago.

Ok, directions from West Lafayette, IN to the Chicago D&B.
Take I-65 to I-90/94. When in Chicago, get off at Monroe for simplicity. Go east on Monroe for .75 miles until you hit Clark. Go North on Clark for 1.5 miles until you hit 1030 N. Clark.

I vote for Schaumburg because it's closer to my house, but I really don't care. It would be easier since I wouldn't have to either a) take the train downtown and get a cab or b) drive down and pay $15 to park.

The point about Schaumburg not being fun is moot because half the people going aren't old enough to get into bars and we probably won't be doing much after the meet anyways aside from those that might be interested in seeing Matrix Reloaded. I can understand about it being further for the students/people in Chicago though.

It's just a major hassle for me to get to Schaumburg, and since I have finals and such that week I don't wont to be wasting a ton of time on trains.

Astroview, just wondering have you been to Shaumburg? There's plenty to do in the area - Woodfield mall, Ikea, Walmart, Gameworks, a big movie theatre, Magianno's, tons of shops and stores, bars along Golf road, etc... And there's parking. If transportation's your only concern I can provide a lift to you and a few other people.

But if you guys really want the city, I suppose I could suck it up and take the train as well. :)

either location is good for me...but i know where the shaumburg one is better. If we go downtown, I'll be taking the train. I refuse to drive down there.

Yea I've been to Schaumburg heh. My parents live in Arlington Heights. It's just that I feel that Chicago is a lot cooler.

If someone could give me a ride I'd consider going to the D&B there, it's just that riding with a stranger is really, really awkward. But I strongly prefer the city. I really don't think you can compare the burbs in anyway for things to do though, map out on citysearch the amount of bars and restaurants within 2 miles of the D&B in the cities and burbs and you'll see a big diff. in the amount of things to do. The crowds are a lot younger in the city too.

keep in mind that being under 21 at D+B is tough... you have to come in with someone older then 25 or something.. and you have to leave by 10 pm... granted, i personally didnt get carded after 10.. as im only 20.. but they were tossing out other youngins. They did check me at the door tho

Cubs game would be more expensive. I also am not sure I could make it for an afternoon game if they were even playing on that date.

I think that most of the people who are going aren't 21 either. I'm 18 too, but I'm not worried :) Plus, if there was alcohol involved, I don't think it would be wise to drink it during an AT meet. The only thing I can see happening is a huge AMD/Intel debate or possibly an ATI/Nvidia debate. :D

I didn't think we were planning on staying late. I had intended on seeing the Matrix after we hung out around dinner time with anybody else who was interested. I had no intentions on being there past 10 oclock in the first place. I was hoping on making it to the Matrix by 10 so I could get out at a relatively decent time in case I wanted to participate in more... ahem.. social activities on a Saturday night.

Will someone be able to provide directions and parking spots (just to let me know where it is safe to park) since I have only ever been downtown twice? My girlfriend and I are planning on coming, but need details soon.

Safe to park?? As in not finding your car when you come back, or finding a ticket on your windshield?

Just don't park anywhere there is a no parking sign, and you will be fine!! Chances are good you won't find any street parking, so be ready to dish out $20. for lot parking - bring lots of quarters for the meters just in case.

Did we come to the conclusion yet of which D&B we would be attending? My vote is for the one in Schaumburg. I know being downtown is a lot cooler, but it creates a lot of problems at the same time. Parking for one example. As someone else said there are a ton of things downtown in a really close proximity to the 'Busters but at the same time for anyone younger then 21 there really isn't. Bars are only cool if you can get into them. Either way I will be heading towards the movie theater with Silver after we go to D&B so I suppose either downtown or Schaumburg works, but I definatly vote to have the meet out in the uber-less-crowded suburbs. I might be able to give up to two other people rides that night (gotta researve a seat for the nitrate man) depending. I live just out in Palatine so they would probably have to be in a close proximity to me. And they would probably have to want to come out to the movie after the meet as I'm sure we would be going directly there, also i suppose curfews are a no no. let me know if anyone qualifies, and i will ship you the 10 page application form. I will need 2 forms of photo id, an electric, phone, or other bill that proves your residency as well as your birth certificate and SS card.

Granted the suburban location is easier to park at but accesbility for those that are carless is another thing to think about. Downtown locations are alot more easier to get to. I can think of about 5 different ways to get to D&B downtown other than driving, that includes different bus routes.

Not only that on a Saturday night its not easy going to Schaumburg from my side of town with traffic and all believe me I use to do it every weekend when my ex lived out near there. Don't miss that commute at all.

I called the downtown one, as said before, under 21 you can get in if you have people over 25 with them. There is a limit of 4 or 5 under 21 people per 25 year old. This could be a hassle with diff. young people arriving at diff. times.

Maybe we should consider the ESPN Zone, which I called and said has no problems with 18+ people. Anyone under 18 needs to be accompanied by someone 21+

I don't think the cubs game would be a good way to talk and meet other ATers.

As for parking being 20 bucks, I don't buy it. You can find it for cheaper and walk a little farther. I'd park in the part of the loop where its dead at night and just walk to the ESPN Zone or D&B. If we want we could move it to another night. I was just at the Leg Room (close to D&B) last night and there was parking in the area, albeit it was a monday night.

Did we decide if we were going to meet in one central place and then go to D&B or was it people arriving at different times. Also I thought D&B let people under 21 in with no problem as long as you arrived before 9 or 10?

How many people over 25 are going?, I'm 30 and my gf is 29 thats 8-10 under 21 in right there.

I also don't buy into the whole parking issue. Since I've been there before and found parking not to far away but then again with Dick running the helm no telling what residental parking zones have popped up since Jan 2003...lol.

Edit: Moved myself into the newly created neutral category...

Note: I may be able to provide a ride for a few people, particularly those who don't know how to get to downtown or Schaumburg.

Okay, let's decide on the location first and then we can get into the details.

Here's the list: Please let me know if you're in the right one.

I can't get to schaumburg. I live in downtown and have no car, so you can guess what my vote is. The new River East theatre is really nice to see the Matrix in. It also happens to be three minutes walking from my highrise, not that that influences me. I think Saturday afternoon at D&B is the best choice.

I live near Schaumburg, but I'd go to either one. And yowolabi's suggestion of afternoon at D&B (as opposed to after dinner) also might be a good idea.
