Just watched the Pilot. I thought it was good and Steve Buscemi's acting so far is excellent. Will probably continue watching the next few episodes.

Watched it and it was ok, but I don't think I will follow it as this timeline, prohibition & gangsters, never really interested me.

Meh, didn't even know about this. I have kinda soured on tv for so long that I thought the thread title was a Monopoly reference. :/

I rarely get pumped about TV shows, but I thought the pilot was excellent. I think Scorsese is a wonderfully entertaining director and am completely hooked.

Didn't the guy who's writing this only write some of the Sopranos...and is only going to writing some of these? Or am i mistaken.

Finally got around to the pilot last ight and I liked it quite a bit. I had no idea Michael Shannon was on the show, so that was a very pleasant surprise as I like him a lot and Kelly McDonald is great too, she was so freaking good in No Country for Old Men. So yeah, great cast.

I found a few parts a bit cliched, but overall I quite liked it and it seems like a show that will I will enjoy even more once I get to know the characters better. If nothing else it's definitely a beautiful show to look at.

Well, I watched it finally. I think it has more in common with Deadwood than it does the Sopranos. It has potential, but the next episode or two will tell.

Pretty much agreed on everything you said. The imagery was very well done, loved the sets they built. The acting was great, as should be expected given the cast. Overall, I'm pleasantly surprised by it and find myself looking forward to the rest of the series.

Maybe he helped with the screen play, but it was David Chase that came up with most of the material for Sopranos.

I didn't read about the show at all and don't know anybody who's watched it, but I just got through both the first two episodes and liked them. I'm definitely going to continue watching.

It definitely has more of a Sopranos feel IMO. For one, things actually happen in this show unlike Deadwood 😀

First two episodes were really good. Not for chicks.

I started another thread not having seen this one...oops.

Anywho here's my OP from my other thread:

I've only seen the first episode but it was great...The cast, quality acting, directing and dialogue with just enough action to keep you interested makes this one a keeper in my book. Steve Buscemi is the main character "Nucky Thompson" who is a politician who is also trying to be a gangster during the prohibition period in Atlantic City. There was already some action involving Al Capone out of Chicago so this series could go places....This might be my new Sopranos fix.

There was also a cameo by Omar as well, not sure if that will go anywhere or not though!!!

The sets are fucking awesome in this show. I'm gonna keep watching it and hope it doesn't turn sour. Right now its a pretty good show.

Is nobody LOVING this show? It's incredible.

I still think that Buscemi, while admittedly acting his ass off in this role, just wasn't the right choice for the part. He just doesn't "fit" for me for some reason. Omar too just isn't right. While I LOVE the guys acting, he's just too much of a "hard-hitting-nagger" for that era or something.

All in all incredible show. I'm 1 episode behind as I can't watch it with the kids runnning around, but I hope to get caught up tonight.

Side note: the body on Nucky's girlfriend? Holy shit.

i just caught up with this show this morning. awesome show, really enjyoing it. i like buscemi as the main guy. i also think his brother and the fbi dude play their roles very well.

and yes, nucky's girlfriend has an extremely smoking body! shit, so does jim's mom!

buscemi plays the role fine, I just don't think he "fits" the character for some reason. But yes, I COMPLETELY agree with you on his brother and the FBI dude. Holy hell those 2 fit the bill well.

When Nucky's girl is in the dress shop and the Irish girl (incredibly pretty)has to put on her clothes? GIGGITY GOO!

LOL yeah Jim's mom is A-OK too. Lotsa lookers in this show.

I have to say that if there is one era that I would not want to live in, it is the 20s. There's just something creepy about it all (but I love to watch shows about it or set in it).

The fact he's supposed to be Irish, and looks nothing at all like his "brother" hurt his performance - but I think he does fits the characters demeanor and character.

Nucky's girl is hot as hell too, but something about her face doesn't work out - or at least when she's wearing all that makeup.

Yeah I think he hits the "demeanor" perfect... like I said, his acting is incredible, but I think you nailed it about not being Irish He also doesn't "look" like he's from the 20s ya know?

I never mentioned Nucky's girl's face for a specific reason. Ugh. You don't look at the mantle while poking the fire though 🙂

Caught up last night.
Wow. so very very very good.
My one complaint is things are happening TOO fast. It's just a snowball downhill gaining speed ya know? I mean the whole Jimmy in Chicago thing already... like he's been there for months (the whole time-frame thus far seems to be 3 months from Jan. to March).

Crazy good show.

It's official.
It's the best show on TV.
The Walking Dead is right behind it for that honor IMO. Maybe it's because no one every really did a TV series like it before but what ever reason it's good.

I watched the latest episode and Boardwalk is getting very good right now.

Breaking Bad is still my #1 but Boardwalk is right there in the mix...I've always liked Steve Buscemi

With the switch to Comcrap, we now have HBO again. I've been catching up on this show.
So far, I've seen the first four episodes. Pretty dammed good, although, in some places, the plot has been fairly predictable.

I agree that Buscemi is kind of a stretch for the part, BUT, I like the guy...he's usually a pretty good character actor.
