That's funny that medic is the least played; still my favourite and probably my best character (no need to comment Imp ;) )

As an aside, I played Pyro a bunch this weekend for pretty much the first time and had an absolute blast. Lots of fun with that guy.

Not to brag but tonight I put on a clinic about what a good sniper can do for your team.

On Well I was sniper for the whole map, 30 minute cycle. At the end I had 107 points. I had 40 headshots, 3 captures, 3 defenses.

By the end the other team hated me to high hell, and ended up retreating into their base for the most part barely venturing out.

And when I say good sniper I dont mean just headshoting every person, but helping capture, helping DEFEND(that sniper rifle does wicked damage!) And instead of sitting around you move forward with your team, yes you are still behind them, but you arent on the other side of the map. Doing that and being a decent shot can really help turn the tide, especially against HWG/medic combos.

This goes without saying, but as a Spy, act like you're part of the other team.

Try to avoid running towards the opposing team uncloaked.

Plan out your strategy beforehand. Pick a disguise, use it, then un-disguise. Then when you're ready to sneak in, cloak, hit 'B' (uses last disguise) and sneak behind the lines

Snipers are good Spy fodder. So are Heavy/Medic combos.

Don't cloak immediately after teleporting, as you will leave a trail and be spotted easily.

Pyro's are your bane.

Try not to stab people when enemies can see you do it.

You can't cap a point while disguised/cloaked, and the instant you pick up the intel you un-disguise.

Engineers are like fish in a barrel. Disguise, sap the turret, hit 'Q' to switch to your last weapon (knife) and stab the engy before he even knows his sentry was sapped. Alternatively, you can stab the engineer when he's behind his gun, and hit 'Q' fast enough to switch to your sapper and sap the turret after the engy is dead, but before the turret has turned around to you. If he's really close to his gun you can sap through him as well.

Mostly basic stuff, but hopefully some of it is useful.

doesn't that block your own teammates too? at least i thought it last time i played (long time ago since I got CoD4).

Yes, it is annoying as hell trying to run up the stairs to escape death or get to a spy sapping your stuff and you are having to try and maneuver around a damn tp

The teleporters block teammates as well, but not dispensers, teammates can run right through them... teleporters you can just jump right over them.

I was thinking the same thing. I occasionally play a Engineer and will need to try the dispenser trick. My fav server though has a bit of anti-grav so they might just be able to jump over it.

I play just about everything but medic, sniper and spy. I hate snipers (except those on my team :) ) and one trick I've learned is to jump in the water with my demoman and spam grenades and stickies to their favorite snipe spots.

Yeah it's unfortunate that people don't play medic more often. I play him almost all the time now since there's rarely another medic on the team. It's actually pretty fun though, and you can rack up quite a bit of points.

Personally, I love playing medic. It's my most played class, and probably my best one as well. Oddly, on the servers I play on, there's usually another decent medic around. One or two of my best games were when I was one of three awesome medics on my team.

Team Coordination via TeamSpeak can be crucial! Organizing Uber's and having all the offense push forward at once, can make a huge difference. On a few instances of "CP_LazyTown" with no Timelimit, it's pretty much a constant struggle for hours on end. But actually coordinating with team members can help immensely.

Sadly being a good medic is similar to being a good healer in a MMORPG in that your 'skill' makes up for about 60% of how effective you are. The other 40% is how effective your team is at stopping the other team is from slaughtering you. Case in point? The Medic has the shortage life expectancy of any class. I love playing medic, but sometime I can only stand watching the other team rush me while my team runs ahead of me or what not so many times before I go "you know what else is fun? Demoman."

Does anyone feel that the demoman seems kinda misrepresented on that stat site? Are there servers full of crappy demomen who die without doing much damage bringing down the average because all those numbers (avg damage, points, etc) seem really low.

I don't know, when I am a Medic, I feel I have a sort of overall responsibility to my team, not just to heal one dude. I tend to become a bit of an observer, calling out when enemies come are coming from different areas, or pointing out different things to watch out for. Obviously you have to look out for yourself a bit as well, but as long as you don't run into battle like a madman, you should be able to do OK hiding around corners and whatnot. The more you communicate in this game, the better you will do and I find this is particularly true when playing a Medic.

not a strategy but this isn't worth creating an entirely new thread over.

I simply can't stand, nor can I understand, people who join games just to spam whatever music they feel like the rest of the people should be forced to listen to. Yes I just turn off voice, but damn it would be nice if I could actually use voice to communicate with my teammates.

You know you can do a single person block instead of just turning off voice completely.

IIRC while in game hit the escape key and then player list from the start screen. Option should be there. Also find better servers :p

Just some basic stuff, most of this you probably already know

To be very effective you may want to get a mic if you dont already have one. This will allow you to quickly give your team information, like how many turrents are guarding a particular point and where those turrents are.

Make sure that your team has a proper balance of classes. In a 24 player map, half the team does not need to be engineers. Too many times have I seen nothing but engineers and snipers defending a point and it gets taken over very quickly because there are no heavy classes defending.

A pyro by a dispenser/ sentry is a great way to stop spies. A heavy right next to a dispenser is also a very nice combo.

As an engineer, dont be afraid to attack up close with the wrench. In many situations it is more powerful than the shotgun and it is fairly easy to get crits with.

- If you're a Soldier and there's a Medic on your team, if you hurt yourself by shooting rockets at the ground or wall in front of you, the medic charges Uber faster. Same thing with a Demoman and a Medic. It's easy to get full uber during the inital Setup phase. I'm surprised at how many soldiers or demos don't know this when I start healing them during setup (or on the way to the frontlines).

- Get a microphone if you don't have one... teams that communicate typically do much better. You can coordinate attacks and defense, call out spies, etc etc etc.

- Don't be afraid to whip out the shotgun if you're soldier or heavy, they can come in handy if you only have one or no rockets, or if you can't wait for your minigun to spin up or the enemy is longer range where IMO the minigun is useless.

- Similar with the above, if you're sniper and a guy is coming at you, don't be afraid to use the submachine gun thing. Too many times I'm coming up on snipers and they insist on still trying to snipe my while I'm dodging and firing at them... I very rarely get killed in these instances.

Sticky bombs are deadly offensive weapons. They are so much better than the regular pipe bombs which are only good for spamming. Just throw some stickies at slow moving enemies, or spread them over an area out for a faster moving one. You can even detonate them in midair and catch enemies that way. They are also THE weapon for taking out SGs due to the potentially massive burst damage that easily overwhelms an engineer's repairing.

for you uber chargers out there. Stay away from the medicine cabinet, it just takes longer. Admittedly you don't have to think about it, just hold down the LMB. But a good demo can keep his health between 50 and 100 so the health meter stays flashing red critical, which charges faster. Also if there is and outdoors area, you can use the jump-crouch-rocket/sticky jump to increase damage. You end up going so high that you take additional damage when you land.

for you glitch whores out there. The collision meshes for the environments are some of the worst i've seen. Roofs you can't jump on or over, invisible walls, etc. But a number of buildings have hidden shelves or ledges. You can rocket or sticky jump up there and do the death from above stuff, and no one sees you until the "you were killed by" snapshot.

You can teleport into one of these in Dustbowl. Maybe they did it on purpose... wh knows. Works great for engy sentries though.
