Post neat tricks you can do to help your team win right here!

Last night, i learned something really hilarious with the Engineer on 2Fort.

I learned a similar trick a while back: Basically, in the courtyard with the wooden steps, you can place objects that slow down spies on the steps so they don't destroy your sentries. Someone showed me this a while back... basically put teleporters on the edge of the steps (right between the steps and the floor... it won't let you put the teleporters on the steps directly, but try to get as far away from the level floor as possible with your object, it works much better)... it makes it REALLY hard to go up the stairs and by the time spies go up the steps, you've pumped enough lead into them that they'll die.

Last night, a guy showed me that you can also put those dispensers on the edges of the steps... it makes it almost IMPOSSIBLE to jump over them... spies couldn't get up the steps and had to resort to sapping the dispensers and teleporters blocking them

of course, we blasted them into itty bitty pieces while they were doing this and quickly built new teleporters/dispensers or just destroyed the sappers with wrenches. Hey, at least our sentries were safe.

And of course the other team stopped sending spies over to our base ... that was awesome

My strategy.

Spawn, die, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, repeat. I'm going to skip this generation and wait for TF3.

You'll be dead before then, but good luck to you!

Yeah in dustbowl as an engineer i place teleports on the stairs to the cap. Slows em down as they go for the win.
Also as a demo it becomes easy to take out sentries around corners in some maps by popping around the corner, shooting a sticky, jumping back, repeat, repeat, repeat. Right click - win. Funny how some demos pipe spam. I never use em and usually come in the top 3.

I pretty much exclusively play Demoman now, unless there already 2 or more of them on my team.

Most of the stuff I do is pretty obvious, but people still fall for it all the time. For example, if I am behind a doorway, or staircase or something I will load it up with sticky bombs. Then I run past and engage some enemies, who almost always follow me, run back through the doorway and bam, I set off my stickies and they are dead. :)

Still love this game a lot; so much fun.

Master plan: be demo man, spam spam spam spam... spam some more. Grab some ammo, spam some more. Honest to god, if all else fails, this never will and is just lame. Sadly, every already knows this awesome "strategy".

Engy never gets boring:).

Meh, whatever, it's still fun.

Edit: couldn't you say that about a lot of the classes though? I mean a lot of Soldiers do the same thing and even Heavies. Heck, even Snipers do not really have much of a strategy.

I like playing as a scout on D. I basically run around and make people chase me back to sgs & other players on my team. People usually try to shoot me because I'm right there while they get pummeled by my teammates.

You could easily avoid the "wait, wait, wait, wait, wait" part by playing on Instant Respawn servers, because apparently the respawn time clearly is what annoys you. If that's the case my friend believe it you're not alone, because those Instant Respawn servers are the most popular ones right now, most of them being of a 32-players limit as well, and almost always full.

With that said ...

Here are some of my not-so-thought-out tricks, easy to see and realize things, but for strange reasons I ignore are often forgotten:

1) If you're a Pyro and see a Soldier coming at you, don't blindly run at him expecting to win instantly (you might, but such cases are part of the extremely-rare things in life). Instead switch to your shotgun and fire at him (or them) from a distance. If you have time, retreat, take cover in a corner from which you will be able to ambush him (or them). The Pyro is meant to cause chaos in GROUPS of enemies. The Pyro is NOT a master made for 1 Vs 1 close quarter battles, it's NOT a tank, that's the Soldier's AND the Heavy Weapons Guy's jobs.

2) If you play as a Medic, heal people that YOU SEE do obviously need healing. By that I mean look around and see who's missing Health to an urgent level. Do NOT always wait for people to actually call for you, or else you will OFTEN find yourself healing someone who's ALREADY either full or getting healed by a Dispenser. Just use your brain and common sense, please.

3) If you play as a HWG (like I mostly do) please DON'T always call for a Medic, mmmk ? Especially when you're full of Health and the only thing you want is getting buffed, while the two Soldiers and the Pyro around you are clearly dying.

for spies trying to get past a choke point with a bunch of defenders:
1 disguise yourself as enemy spy.
2 have medic from your team heal you as you charge the choke point.
3 defenders think you are one of their spies and have fooled the enemy medic into healing you as they charge the chokepoint. they'll generally let you through without too many "spy test" shots.

Yeah I hate that. I have also encountered it the other way, where the stupid Medic will only heal the Heavy, even if I am standing right next to him with barely any health.

I fail to see how this works, as the medic would only heal you if you were disguised as someone on his team. And if you're disguised as an enemy spy, you're obviously not going to show as wearing a mask and being disguised as someone on his team.

Net effect: enemy medic healing undisguised spy on friendly team. Dead giveaway.

Ya, you could, but not to the same degree. Soldier, at least your rockets go straight so you actually have to aim. I lost count of the number of kills I got lobbing grenades as demoman over a building (dustbowl) or around a corner into the "general" area/path the enemy went through. With heavies, you don't do all that much damage cause of dispersion; with demo, you can be nailed by 1-4 at a time. Snipers as far as I know you have to aim.

There's a running "joke" on dustbowl servers about demos. Just go play on one:).

Here's something useful that someone explained to me over voice comm a couple of nights ago:

If you are approaching a choke point where you know there is a sentry and you've got a medic with an invuln up, tell the medic to rush in first after activating it. The sentry will stay locked onto him and it's much easier for the damage class to kill the sentry when he's not fighting against the sentry's knockback.

Definitely. There are so few good medics, and then people don't let them do their jobs. Fortunately, there are also a lot of skilled players who will hurt themselves to charge you up faster, but I'm also bad at uber.

Yes, it is annoying as hell trying to run up the stairs to escape death or get to a spy sapping your stuff and you are having to try and maneuver around a damn tp

The teleporters block teammates as well, but not dispensers, teammates can run right through them... teleporters you can just jump right over them.

Meh, don't know how many people do this, but automatic doors are amazingly useful for sentry guns. This is especally true on Well (moreso when you're building at enemy base:)) and granary points 2 and 4. Open door up ocasionally and when you start taking too much damage, step away, close and repair; keeping it closed sometimes helps since people won't see it and just back up. Problem is your range may be too limited, but hey, that's why you can step back;).

I know this sounds foreign to some TF2 players, but if you play as pyro like someone else posted, dont go rambo. pick your battles, ambush and then circle strafe around them. If they start to retreat whip out the shottie to damage/kill them.

Also when a medic comes into your base KILL THE MEDIC FIRST. Odds are you cant damage the person he is healing fast enough to kill them. So go for the medic. Even if you die but kill the medic that other player has no one to heal him.

The above only applies if aforementioned medic is not me, btw. <- awesome tip for newbies.
