I've hated the show since the first season. I don't watch it now. It depresses me to see how low some people will stoop for money...

That is what you don't understand the show is not about money its about competition. Any player with reasonable ethics understands that he does not already have the money, will probably not get the money, and deep down really doesn't need the money. People can play a nice friendly game of poker what is so foreign to you about a nice friendly game of espionage both games involve lying neither game makes you dishonest if it does you were dishonest from the get go and the game did nothing. I find very little unethical about what Richard did he was blatant about playing to win. He treated it like any other game you would play with no money involved then when it was over he continued to show up on Hollywood squares with the other survivors giving them a chance to capitalize that he didn't need.

When will they learn one can not separate the method from the madness!

I don't mind Friends that much...at least they have no problem admitting they're paying the actors. I'd have to say it's a close tie between survivor and that lobotomy.

sure...i agree...what's so special about it?

It's so special people decide to dedicate entire threads to it. Sure, millions of people enjoy it and make it a success but I also believe the millions who hate it are making the show equally successful.

Take a lot of people who hate it + lot of people who dislike it = controversial

Controversial is a hot commodity right now.

I mentioned this earlier in another thread, but here goes again. What I think they should do, instead of this pansy 'reality TV' crap, is make a real 'survivor' show. Same as now, they take all these weak, pale-faced American urban pansies, and throw them onto some remote island. This island, of course, is filled with voracious wildlife, deadly animals and such.

The person who survives wins.

The wife and I watch it. But we usually FF after the challenge to the vote.

The plot of the show basically hasn't changed since season 1, has it? Richard Hatch taught people how to backstab their way to victory in the first season, and everyone else has played it the same way since. I gave up watching it around the third season for that reason.

I watch the show religiously still. I haven't missed an episode in probably a decade+. The only thing that really bothers me is that they keep bringing back returning contestants.

Returning players and Idols need to go!

We've watched since Season 1 and so much has changed. The early seasons focused on Surviving as the tribes quite literally starved - it made for bad TV so now they feed them more and the tribes focus much more on gamesmanship than on Surviving. Strong perfromers used to make it to the end, now they are threats, and get voted off immediately so its often a game of the weakest these days.

You know, I've come to appreciate the value of mindless entertainment & mindless tasks over the years. I used to think it was a waste of time & that we should be productive 16 hours a day, even outside of work, but I realize that we need some mental down-time to avoid burnout. My job has acted as that role from time to time, like if I have to roll out 100 computers or something & just mindlessly unbox & sysprep everything for a few days. I used to dread doing boring stuff like that, but you know, putting on some headphones & just working my way through stuff is somethings almost kinda therapeutic lol.

I think things like shop hobbies, TV shows, etc. work in much the same fashion for people...it gives you something mentally chill to do, where the drama is there for your entertainment, but you don't have to be involved as far as any decision-making or effort goes.

Yeah, I think that we're all playing the game this year. Do we still get a million bucks and a Pontiac Aztek if we win? 🙂

You get a one-time payment of $1,200 and 0% interest on any new car you qualify for 😀

On that tangent, my buddy just got like an 84-monthly loan at 0% interest on his new car. I think he pays more for gas than he does his car payment lol. Fortunately, it's a Subaru so it will easily outlast that ridiculously long loan haha!
