Seattle's defense literally beat the Broncos, 9-8. The offensive scores and special teams were just extra.

I haven't been following this thread:

Was AMD in here talking shit about how great the broncos are like he was last year??

Oh shit. I made a parody post about how the Seahawks were gonna dominate and you'd be an idiot to think otherwise. Let me go dig it up 🙂

edit: Here it is

It's obviously gonna be the Seahawks this year. I mean, does anyone else even stand a chance? If you think otherwise, you're an idiot, and it's obvious that my football knowledge is infinitely superior to yours. If I'm wrong (I'm not), then I'll ignore everyone on the forum who brings this post up for a good 3-4 months.

Idiots.

FWIW I don't think the game should reflect on Manning's legacy. Not much he could do when the rest of his team played like a bunch of lost children for most of the game.

Of course. Absolutely nothing could ever transpire to cause you to question your "Manning is the best QB of all time!" Not playoff losses, not getting embarrassed in the Super Bowl, not thowing a grand total of 3 TDs to 4 INTs in his combined 3 Super Bowl performances. I'd argue the evidence is far stronger that Peyton is the most overrated QB of all time, than evidence that he's the best.

Meh.. you can't argue with his regular season domination over his career. I'd definitely say he's overrated in the post season though.

I am still trying to figure out what happened.

I am hoping that someone like Gruden will put together a definitive tape that shows us every Denver possession with the entire field in view--basically, I want to see what Manning had to see.

Was Seattle Secondary that fucking good tonight?

My thoughts on it are that the Seahawks' secondary are that good at what they do. It's no secret that they are "physical." They hold, they push, they dare the refs to throw flags, and they do it every play.

I saw it with Brees twice this year, and now Manning. Both offenses are very timing-based, and that type of DB play really throws off timing. Those two QBs normally look so confident in short timing throws, but against Seattle, they would have to constantly check down to the 2-yard completions.

im not sure who is worse, the Manning sackriders or the Sea Chickens bandwagon fans

I don't think anyone can deny that Manning was the most dominant QB in the league this year.

I don't think anyone can deny that Seattle's defense completely shut him down.

So maybe I'm riding the chicken wagon to Peyton's sack, but I don't think either of those assessments are wrong.

Seattle was long due for a championship, while I think some of the defensive players play rather dirty I do like to see Russell Wilson get a ring.

That said I think they will start running into some trouble in 2-3 years when a bunch of these rookie contracts, including Wilson's, start to run out.

That even applied when he was in college. He led the Vols to an 42-17 beatdown by the Huskers in the 1997 Orange Bowl in what was effectively the NCAA championship game. The very next year after Peyton left for the NFL, the Vols go undefeated and win the National Championship with Tee Martin at QB.

So the last 2 denver QBs still have the same playoff winning percentage, but the first one doesn't seem to have suffered such a bad defeat in retrospect.

I think I'd take a couple steps back from the NFC about to win everyone for the next decade position. The east is a current trainwreck, the north as a division seems in rebuild mode, and the south and west look to be beating each other up so the winner there could come out as damaged goods.

Routbowl XLVII was probably the worst superbowl I have ever seen. It was like my high school team (which went 1-31 in my four years) showed up to play an NFL team. Simply embarrassing.

FWIW I don't think the game should reflect on Manning's legacy. Not much he could do when the rest of his team played like a bunch of lost children for most of the game.

There were worse Super Bowl performances than this one believe it or not:

1. Super Bowl 24: 49ers 55, Broncos 10
2. Super Bowl 20: Bears 46, Patriots 10
3. Super Bowl 27: Cowboys 52, Bills 17 (same point differential but IIRC, the Bills got slop points at the end to close the score)

Elway, who some consider the greatest QB of all time, suffered three extremely humiliating SB defeats in the late 80s, early 90s with the closest being SB 21 against the Giants (Giants won, 39-20). Elway and company only finally broke through because they got a running game and shored up the defense (and by some accounts, cheated the salary cap).

Interestingly, I read that of the times the #1 offense and #1 defense went up against each other in the SB, the only time the defense did not prevail was in Super Bowl 24 (see above).

If you think losing your job and never playing in the NFL again is the more desired outcome, then your opinion no longer matters

Anyway, if I have to find some silver lining here it's that this game is evidence that a truly good defense is still possible to achieve in this league. I've wondered to myself if the rules we have now that people whine about truly make it impossible to play good defense, or if those are just excuses made by subpar defenses. After the game last night I'm a believer in defense again... people need to quit using the rules as an excuse to let up big plays. Seattle showed everybody exactly how you can make defense succeed in the modern age of football.

That's true, but the AFC is in even worse shape. The only division in the AFC worth a crap is the AFC West, with the AFC North on the verge of being a great division. The AFC East and AFC South are pretty much 1 team divisions at this point.

The NFC South and NFC West are obviously the strong divisions in the NFC, but don't discard the NFC North as well. The division is loaded with talent and with some defensive help (Packers), discipline (Lions), and consistency over 16 games (Bears), they can play with the best in the league.

The AFC was a joke this season, and fancy team and passing records can't mask it. When the Patriots earn a bye after losing half their team, something is seriously wrong. Denver is by far the best AFC team, and I'm not even sure they make the playoffs in the NFC West.

Denver was the best, but not by far IMO. I didn't think they'd make it to the SB to be honest and thought the Colts or Patriots would take them down (for the record, I predicted Patriots vs. Seahawks). It wouldn't have mattered who from the AFC went to the SB because Seattle would've still won. They would've had a much harder time against the Colts though. 😀

My Colts beat both of these teams in the regular season and Seattle was a much, much tougher game.

Meh. I love Andrew Luck, but that team is still overrated record wise.

Last year, I agree 100%. But their schedule was much, much tougher this year and most picked them to regress and possibly finish as bad as 7-9. I think my own preseason schedule review had them at 9-7. 11-5 was a great record given their schedule and if not for their maddening inconsistency, 13-3 was attainable.

There were a few. The first one was very short and you had no idea it was for 24, the last one you knew and it was all like... whoa... badass.

i knew 100% the first commercial was for 24. that clock "tink" sound was a dead giveaway.

overall i thought the commercials were terrible. i just remember them always being competing for the funniest commercials. this year it seemed like 25% of them were comedies and the rest were serious.

The main difference between the two conferences now is that after going through a stream of quarterbacks, the NFC has seen several of it's lacking teams finally getting decent play in place. At the same time the AFC has several needing new ones or still deciding on the qulity of the one they've just gotten.

lol nobody considers Elway the greatest QB of all time except for crazy Denver homers.

Read one story that commercials were made to be more "family friendly" this year. Result seems to be only a handful that were entertaining.
