No nothin yet on release but IMHO maybe Christmas or after the New Year. I would guess a lot depends on this Beta testing, (still quite a few bugs!)

Apparently the Secret World is coming out in April. Can only have one MMO you know....and then there's Planetside 2 and some other shooters on the horizon as well.

Far as I can tell it's completely random. I've never been selected before nor have I played any of those previous games. I did however get in a few weeks ago. Just a matter of getting lucking from their sign up.

Try as I might I just don't give a crap about Star Wars. And the game just comes off feeling like another MMORPG which I'm sure plenty of people will love but never pulled me in, and I've had enough of the hamster wheels. It's probably going to be a good MMORPG, but that doesn't change the fact almost all MMORPGs feel about the same.

Good luck Bioware, see you in Dragon Age 3 <3

And how many hundreds of thousands of people applied for it? Not about having a high end machine or whether one tested before. System chooses at random.

Theres nothing new in SWTOR, just more of the same old WoW formula.

It's not that it's that similar to WoW, it's that by and large if you've played one MMORPG you've played them all. What separates WoW and probably eventually ToR from the rest of the pack is polish, but there's only so much you can do with polish. It doesn't change the core mechanics or design of the game which was pretty consistent even before WoW came out. Level, farm, reward, farm, reward+1, farm, reward+2, farm, reward+3. And in order to be compatible with and "safe" in such a large world, gameplay suffers, so all the while, it's not even done in a particularly fun way, to me at any rate.

ToR has some nice touches with a stronger story presence, the alignment system (even if it is kind of transparent and probably just yet another min/max dimension), and quests that feel more 'personal', but it doesn't address the things that I don't like about the genre.

I hear what you guys are saying!

My first PC RPG was Ultima( ya I'm old). My first MMORPG was Ultima Online. It was the first real big MMO and set the rules/standards for all the ones after. The only thing that separates any MMORPG is the "Story".

Until a software company and game designers come up with a better system: (fight - lvl up - quest - lvl up - find stuff - lvl up - etc. and join together to beat the "Big Bosses") all MMO's will "feel" the same!

If ya don't care for Star Wars stories then you will not like SWTOR plain and simple! If ya don't like "Fantasy style" stories then you won't like all the MMO's that followed Ultima Online etc.

The point of any game is the story it tells and how it involves "you" in it! LOL

P.S. If you have only watched the 6 movies of Star Wars you will not understand SWTOR. Go buy and play KOTOR 1&2 to really have any idea what is up in SWTOR since it takes place 300 years after KOTOR.( the movies take place 3000 or so years after SWTOR.)

I beta tested ToR and was disappointed, story is one thing but this is MMORPG not single RPG,so it needs more then storyline, they need to improve PvP,social content, crafting and space to name a few things, end of the day they expect players to sub so they will need to earn their money and keep players interested.

I notice most of the beta players were not logging in everyday after the first week or so as fun factor wore off and they got bored, this might change when it goes live but the game cannot live up to the hype IMHO.

Long term I'm very concerned how it will pan out, personally if they wanted to focus on storyline they should of went with KOTOR3 single player RPG.

MMORPG part is lacking for sure IMHO.
Don't get me started on how bad space was.
I do consider myself a Star Wars fan but have to call it as I see it,taking elements from WoW is one thing but they need to make the game appealing long term, even storyline was not amazing as it goes .

Btw if you want a great story get a Star Wars book or too,its a lot cheaper ;). .

I'll say having said all that I'll give ToR a try at the start, just very worried long term.

This is going to be the biggest hurdle for TOR and any other new MMO these days. There are so many decent but not good or great MMOs out there, you really need to do something different to set yourself apart from the others. I get the feeling a lot of people are gonna have fun for a week or two, but once the newness of the game wears off, boredom will set in and cancellations follow. Which is more or less the death of games, all MMOs a solidly large number of subs to keep the game fun.

They really need an open sandbox Eve type game that is a fully fleshed MMO.

I would like to see them get the players more involved in the game like what happened in SWG for an example where the economy was run by players etc....this improved crafting/social aspects etc.....as it stands ToR is not really a true MMORPG,story driven is one thing but what about all those players that want more depth with improved and better social/housing and economy aspects of MMORPG game.

We really don't want MMORPG that's holding us by the hand throughout the game based on story.

I like what you're saying and I agree with ya Mem!

All I was really trying to get across was that really there is no such thing as a "new game". Only repeats and rehashes of the same old thing.

A true MMORPG has a lot more in it than SWTOR has so far. (even Ultima Online had better community, crafting, housing, etc.) Having only played Ultima online my experience with MMORPG is very limited to say the least! LOL But you and I both know that just like SWG there will be new content and upgrades etc. Also TOR is KOTOR 3-5 all rolled into a MMO. Or so they have said. Besides what we don't know about the final game compared to what we do know is like the difference between a thimble of water and the Pacific ocean.

As far as my Star Wars back round I have read all the novels(except the ones I am waiting for in paperback, I am a cheap ass!). I have owned or played all the games console or PC as far back as X-Wing etc. I still remember watching A new Hope in the theater when it was released originally. I am with out a doubt a major SW geek! (already planning a vacation to my first SW convention in Aug. 2012)

I do agree with what everyone has said thus far! Later J.

The problem here is WoW has proven by numbers and money that is not what gamers want..

they dont care about housing or super duper crafting classes..
all they want is a carrot on a pole to lead them to the next purple item..

TOR has taken that to another level and given us story that changes based on your descisions and class.. along with everything and more that WoW had on release.

if you are expecting EVE style sandbox or SWG2.0 then you are not in the right place..
they never said they were going for anything like that.
they said they are going to make a story driven mmo..
and that is exactly what they have done..

The subs tell the story.. people like thier hands held..
all the most popular MMOs are of this type.. anything else has died.

I for one will be playign it for the player/class stories alone..

200 hours of story for EACH class/AT that is incredible.. and far more than I'd even expect from KOTOR3.

and that is a quote from the devs.

so every class will have a different story.. and the choices you make in that story will change it..

Then we have the incredible companion system which no other MMO has tried.

there is some very cool stuff coming that is not even in testing yet if you watch the dev panels.

So if Bioware said the game is great you'll take their word without even playing the game?.....I can tell you the hype factor is way above what Bioware can deliver.

No way I could replay the storyline more then once and even after 2 weeks it was getting to the point why am I logging in?..the game needs some serious player driven based content to keep players coming and getting together.

There are only so many times you can do so many quests ie kill x mobs for XP points before it gets boring.

Milking players for subs based on storyline is not going to make a great MMORPG,players need more and expect more then that.
