Did anyone watch this flashpoint video yet? I'm actually pretty impressed; although I'm really starting to fear that such a narrative-heavy experience lends itself less to multiple playthroughs vs. a generic dungeon crawl.

was on the tv without the guide so went to tvguide to see what's on, damn thing has ads for this all across it right now.

Just finished KOTOR for the 1st time after many years of on and off playing. Can't believe I've stayed oblivious to the Leviathan spoiler after all these (best spoiler evar!!) I'm really excited for TOR now.

I've purposely avoided replaying KotOR again, despite it probably being in my Top 10 Games of All Time list, simply because I'm afraid it might be enough to push me towards a premature preorder of TOR. 🙁

KOTOR is probably in the top 3 of my alltime favorite games. However, to me, KOTOR is a great reason to refuse to play TOR. I would have much preferred a KOTOR 3 single player game to finish up the storyline of the first 2 games.

I know they say TOR will be solo friendly and have a lot of content, but it is set in a totally different time period, so I dont see how they can finish the storyline of KOTOR.
Hmm, maybe a flashback or something??? Give me a break. Anyway I dont want to get involved in a neverending MMO, and prefer to play alone without having to form parties, keep levelling up, etc.

I think a lot of this game is geared around the single player experience. The MMO elements are primarily the dungeon crawls/pvp and trading/crafting.

In a few beta interviews there are mechanics that reward you for being in a group. Not just bonus XP but something close to faction for being social that opens up new gear to the player.

It's not so much the fact that it is a direct sequel to KotOR or finishes the story arc so much, as it is the same genre and concept: a massive, epic Star Wars story with hundreds of characters and dozens of environments, and (hopefully) some great storytelling thrown in, as well.
Sure, I'd love to see the "Revan" plot line finished up and explained better, but even a new story thread set in the same universe (albeit different timeline) is exciting for me.

Next you should find a cheap or used copy of KOTOR II (sadly not on Steam) and play it.

Yes, it falls apart near the end, but until then it is one of the best PC RPGs of all time.

I agree with you that a new star wars game, even if it did not finish up KOTOR could be a lot of fun. It is just that personally, I do not want to get involved in an MMO. I know a lot of people feel differently, and that is fine for them. However, I prefer a single player game that you can play on your own schedule, that you dont have to devote loads of time to, dont have to form parties, and that has a storyline with a definite final ending. Dont really see how you can do this in an MMO, no matter how solo friendly it is.

Different people feel differently about I vs II. A friend I played with preferred KOTOR 2 to the first game. Personally I preferred the first game, as I thought it was more well done technically and had a tighter storyline. I guess I just got into the good vs evil, Jedi vs sith, etc. And I thought the opening level and the ending battle were exceptionally well done.

The second game was more ambiguous as to its morality, although it did institute some interesting gameplay mechanics. It was just that the plot didnt really make sense to me, especially at the end, and the ending was such a let down after 50 or 60 hours of gameplay. All the decisions you made during the rest of the game did not seem to make much difference in the ending at all, in contrast to the first game.

But I definitely would recommend both games.

I own KOTOR II as well, but I've read the game doesn't work well on Win7. KOTOR ran fine, but I had the "Best of PC" copy and I still had to run a bunch of tweaks to get the game to run properly.

I played it fine on my Win7 x64,I do recommend you install the TSL Restored Content Mod, it restores a lot of the stuff that was missing in the retail version, quite bad how much the hacked out of the retail version.

Previous articles I've seen have claimed just that - that dialogue choice would have a significant impact on the story and progress of missions. We'll see how much of that they deliver.

Has Bioware given a semi-firm release date yet?

First off- this game looks AWESOME.

Secondly- For the past few years games have advertised (and especially MMOs) that your choices in game will IMPACT THE WORLD. Who cares? Is that supposed to be awesome? I wish they wouldn't bother.

Yeah it is awesome because a million people effecting the world sounds like a good idea until you realize 99% of them are 12 year olds and / or trolls. They need a canon story and stick to it. Let people repeated kill that raid boss and just stick to the story either one side killed him first or they both did or some shit.

Lore question: If the expanded universe books are canon, then I understand the Chiss weren't really discovered until just before the time of original trilogy movies? Yet the game has chiss playable?

Short answer: they unfortunately aren't canon. Even though some amazing fiction was written for the universe, Lucas pissed all over it when he made the new movies and has a firm stance of disregarding all EU content.

Hm...I haven't read all the books, maybe 20, but I haven't noticed any glaring contradictions between episodes I-III and the books...

The timeline is totally jacked up, the story of "Jango Fett" makes no sense, Obi-Wan hid dath vader's son...at Darth Vader's stepbrother's house on his home planet, that he visited at least once? Much of the technology isn't chronological to the books either, but that's no big deal. R2 has rockets? There's alot more, but like I said it's not a huge deal as far as SWTOR is concerned.

I don't understand why the Chis is in this game, that makes no sense at all.

I'm not in the beta or alpha or whatever, haven't followed the lore(if any has been released yet) for the game but I'm betting there will be a Chiss NPC in the game which makes people think OMG that's the 4000 BBY version of Thrawn!
