Han Solo was Han Solo. he wasn't from earth. He never grew up watching cowboys and Indians. He may have had that swagger that was familiar to us, the audience, but he didn't look like a god damn cowboy. He looked like he belonged in a galaxy far far away that had nothing to do with what we know.

not really a bone of contention, it's just that they seem to be going the Final Fantasy route with design: borrow classical pop culture themes and elements and adapt them to a ridiculous form, placing them in environments where they make no sense....and look stupid. :\

Except he was identified as a nerf herder. While I won't argue that cowboy in the trailer looks stupid, Han Solo could have easily been in any Western with almost the same character type (minus the Falcon and trading Chewy for an Indian). I shouldn't have to mention cowboys and Indians take place a long, long time in the future from when Han Solo "existed".

eh...it's a separate galaxy, you know. Star Wars has nothing to do with our reality--unlike Star Trek (I hate ST, by the way). so, there is no "cowboy" in the future for Star Wars. It is their own reality.

Star Wars: mythology, fantasy
Star Trek: Sci Fi.

anyway, yes, I've already agreed that Han Solo is certainly the cowboy personae. He very much embodies that, which is why the audience identifies with him.

...but he doesn't dress like an American cowboy, because that mythology does not exist in Star Wars. He already has the "Star Wars cowboy outfit."

why do we need to pull in some cross-galaxy traveler wearing a cowboy hat and trench coat that would never have existed in SW galaxy?

it doesn't make any sense. It would work in Star Trek--because there is earth. There is shared history.

....is this making any sense, yet?

well, does it make sense that practically everyone in the star wars universe speaks english?

i tell you what doesn't make any sense, luke wearing a pancho. he's not even mexican!

:) lol. I always just assumed it was translated for our movie watching enjoyment. After all, they do refer to their language as "basic" and there are several examples of people speaking different languages in SW at least..

Graphic detail I can deal with. However, the animations need to be completely redone. They aren't fluid or interesting in the least.

That's why I said it looks just like KOTOR. Not even an improvement in the animations.

Listen guys I am not a fan of this game but it's just that a "game" accept that some characters are dressed to give an image not for any other reason it's simply to be cool looking.

I agree--it is jsut a game. but it's just that attitude that shits out crappy movies and craphole games that people eat up these days. it doesn't have to make sense--it just has to "look cool!" OMG, IM GON TXT Dis KEWL MOVIE 2 MY FRIENDS!!

eh, that sort of thing.

the original SW design team spent a lot of time and money into creating a living, cohesive world. with its own style, its own culture--something that we could recognize (through characterization) but remained unfamiliar. We knew this wasn't our world.

My comment about this looking like Final Fantasy is spot on--it's like a pile of realities that know nothing of each other somehow collided in some pimply japanese dude's brain, he thought it was cool to give a dude a cowboy hat and a giant sword, which totally makes sense while he's casting magic and riding dragons and whines over some 12 year old girl with Scarlett Johanson's tits and Megan Fox's hips.

:D

again--yes, it's just a game--but it stood out to me immediately as very much off. Capcom might as well have designed the style of this game in one of their collective wet dreams.

What the fuck are you even talking about? It's not English, it's fucking Basic and there are a ton of other languages in the star wars universe.

Fellas.

Take a big, big step back and look at what you're talking about.

Stop it. You'll thank me later.

Painfully bad trailer, although the swordplay was excellent. Stupid space cowboy... that alone made me want to quit watching.

That soundtrack though from Phantom Menace is just incredible. What a score!

So let me get this straight.. you wear a hat that even remotely looks like a cowboy hat and you're a cowboy?
ok good to know... that makes over 3/4 of Texas as the south Cowboys and girls..

I assure you we are not.. it's a freaking hat..

guess if you wear a ball cap you're a ballplayer?

Yes, if you wear a cowboy hat you are a cowboy. Clearly, unequivocally, yes.

As if that even needed to be said. Some people...

Of course he is not an actual cowboy, he is what the cowboy's of the wild west represented. Hence the reason why they have another in this game. You "need" that bad boy anti hero crap for emo kids to identify with.

So Solo's vest and big gunbelt isnt dressing like a cowboy? He even wears tall boots with a heel... I bet if he was the sheriff kind of character he even would have had some sort of star shaped pin on his vest.

That's one major flaw I saw as well, the way the videos of Sith Inquisitor and Trooper progression portrayed the game made it look like garbage. My hopes for this game isn't high with the way things look right now.

If this is anything like WoW (and it looks a lot like it), it will have a basic attack animation for every weapon (male / female / race dependent) and maybe 3 special attack animations per weapon. Add in two casting animations and you have an MMO. I don't think anyone is expecting epic Star Wars-esque light saber battles, and if they are, they are morons. This is an MMO that will be required to be accessible with low end machines and consumed by the masses.

I think the warrior on Rift had two animations (downswing for basic attack, and upswing for special attack).
