Tried hardmode Explosive Conflict and as we predicted Zorn/Toth creating big problems lol. It's really nice to see hard mode being a substantial step up from story mode however, especially with the inclusion of new mechanics. Difficult, but glad it is. We went 0/16 but made a lot of progress and have some ideas for next time, dunno what to expect from the other bosses but I'm hoping they all got the same treatment.

It seems like SWTOR didn't like us too much last night.

Ran HM EV last night and got down to Soa only to wipe a couple of times due to network glitches. Seems that they would always happen during the half phases of the fight. Got so frustrated that I called the raid after our 4th wipe due to the network stuff.

More issues came up while looting. Because Bioware, in their infinite wisdom decided the Destiny system was crap and took it out completely we're now forced to run Ops with Master Looter on. This has become an issue a couple of times, but mostly so last night where I had awarded drops to people and they not getting the drop. Had the Rakata BH pants drop and I awarded it to our only BH in the raid. He says that he hadn't gotten it yet. Went to the chest again and I couldn't open it. It also happened to a couple of relics last night. Appropriate screenshots and tickets were submitted, but it's just very frustrating. The Raid Party knows that Soa and EV aren't going anywhere but it's still a gross negligence on Bioware's part to not implement a different system for looting. Even if it gives you 60 seconds to trade it away to someone who needs it as opposed to having someone who doesn't need it vendor it for a quick 10k credits.

So, progress reports: Eternity Vault - Farming; EV Hard Mode - 4/5; Karagga's Palace - 3/5

We've had that bug where the guy you assign it to doesn't/can't acquire the item. Sometimes it's because his inventory is full. Sometimes having him come up and stand right next to you (people like wandering in the direction of the next trash pull) when you (re)assign it lets it work. And sometimes the guy is just screwed.

Definitely would not recommend doing that in an MMO. Death is essentially part of the game, and if you reroll every time you're gonna be miserable.

Not to go OT, but this "rerolling on death" play style for an MMO. If ever someone was looking to kick that habit, ...they need to try GW2. :D You would spend more time creating characters than you ever would in combat! :D

Anyway, I look forward to playing a little more ToR after last weekend's phenomenal beta event sucked my soul dry, and I really need some game distraction until that general release.

We decided to try Lost Island hard mode again and were able to down the droid boss after figuring out a strat that worked fine.

Just as an FYI, sometimes a 'guide' is the worst thing you can follow in these instances. People kept referring to a 'soft' enrage that happens at 20%-30%. So we kept attacking this boss from the idea of how to survive the last 20-30% while he is 'soft' enraged. We found that this was basically impossible as he instant casts full size bubbles that do massive damage. Well, the guides all steered us down the wrong direction. This is quite simply, a DPS race (big surprise). Once we figured that out, we downed him quickly and he wasn't difficult. It was a very smooth and easy fight. I did some DPS, killed the adds mostly solo while the DPS stayed on the boss and I kept everyone healed. We got him all the way down to 20K before he even enraged and about 10 seconds later he was dead. Health pool of everyone when boss died was at 80%. At no point during the fight was anything 'frantic' it was smooth, controlled and easy. No white knuckling or anything like that once we figured out DPS, DPS, DPS and DPS.

Jedi Guardian (Columi Gear) 20K HP
Commando Gunnery Spec - (Tionesse geared) 16K HP
Commando Gunnery Spec - (Tionesse geared) 17K HP
Commando Combat Medic - (Columi Geared) 20K HP

Summary: My opinion was that this boss was too difficult when we first tried this instance, but that was because we didn't fully understand the mechanics. The biggest setback was thinking he was going to enrage no matter what at a certain health, so we actually held back waiting to DPS for when this happened. Most of our failed attempts revolved were the result of that fallacy. We tried this boss about 15 times total before figuring it all out. I dare say, we would have figured it out much sooner if we merely ignored the guides.

This is definitely doable for people who are not Rakata geared. With that said, you may need to 'mod' your tionesse and columi level gear to fit the exact stats that you play style requires. Some of the 'default' itemization on the tionese and collumi is horrible, it definitely needs to have mods and enhancements ripped out and put in with the right stuff. I can tell you that myself and the tank know how to theory craft and get the most our of our gear, but our two DPS do not. I imagine we would beat the enrage timer all together if they itemized their gear better.

Keep in mind that while we have ranged DPS, we didn't have extra interupts for when the tank went 'oops' and we didn't have the ability to interupt his AoE. So, as always, class makeup has certains pros and cons. In some ways the ranged DPS makes it better, but the lack of interupts makes it so they take more damage which puts more strain on the healer, and or stops their DPS from DPSing so they can heal themselves. It is all a trade-off. It was fun.

On a whim we tried NM EV last night, the loot seemed largely the same as hard mode but we did feel like there was 'more' of it. I think we were seeing two Rakata pieces per boss along with quite a bit of Columi/Exotech dropping at the same time. I had heard NM on the old raids were supposedly dropping Black Hole commendations but that does not appear to be true unless it's KP only, which I suppose is not impossible.

Cleared it without a great deal of trouble, we did run into the enrage on both the Robot and Soa but managed to down both of them on one attempt. Boss HP went way up with NM it seems but damage is not especially higher.

Also on my Bounty Hunter I had picked up and dropped the Ilum: First Strike quest (which essentially opens up your Ilum dailies) at some point and wasn't able to pick it up again. Put in a ticket about it and got a response in under a day that they're aware/working on it and they added the quest to my log manually which has worked perfectly. Pleasantly surprised by that.

I don't think you guys were doing Normal mode if Rakata gear was dropping.

taris was really only bad because you don't have a mount yet. I think with faster travel it would actualy be a decent place.

well, second time in EC for me, third time for the rest of the group and we one shot every boss except Vorgath, who bugged out on us again. At least only once this time.

I recorded the boss fights, although the quality seems kinda not so great (i usually just use livestream to, well, live stream, lol). anyway, you can watch them here if you are interested.

we are going to be trying hardmode this friday. yay!

also, did lost island hardmode for the first time tonight. everything seems pretty easy really. the last boss took a couple of attempts for me to get the mechanics of it, but once we got it down it wasn't so bad. that green aoe goo he spits out is a giant pain in the butt. :(

Imperial Alderaan is the WORST planet in SWTOR.
Every time I leave that planet I keep looking for the Death Star to blow it up.

I actually liked Alderaan. It's easy and very fast compared to the other planets.

Balmorra however is the worst place for me... No mounts and it takes SOOO long to do for a bunch of annoying, repetitive quests.

I loved Tatooine on the Republic side. Have not hit it on the other side yet.

Just got off of Alderaan on my Sin and so glad I'm done with that shithole, as far as I know...

I liked parts of Tatooine. At least it was much easier to navigate than Alderaan.

i think tatooine and alderaan are both really cool places to go ...

when you are 50. lol.

i love alderaan now...the snow reminds me of home. and tatooine actually has some cool stuff out in the desert to see. but leveling on both those planets was a LOT of traveling.

I appoligize if this has been asked before.

Is there any disadvantage to light/dark balancing. Can you get light 1 and dark 1 (etc) at the same time? Or should I go all light or all dark?
Have a lvl 50 smuggler who was all light but am trying a Sith nice guy, and wonder if he can be a bit dark.

The light/dark side is just a side story stat. Doesn't mean a hill of beans in the grand scheme of things. Overall, it's the total of the points that dictates your appearance and some small, meaningless unlocks. So you can only be one or the other.

BTW, the servers are all but dead. Took nearly 20 minutes to get into PvP yesterday and then it was a repeat of the same people for 5 or so matches. They really need to combine servers or get this ranked PvP going. The game is a crucial point IMO where it will either get bigger or fade away like all the other failed MMO's.

this is not technically true. there is gear that has certain light side/dark side level requirements. and some pets. but most likely overall, yes, its not a majorly important stat.
