okay, some may think my kings by 10 is crazy but this statement is ludicrous. Mavs are not one of the worst teams. They are second best behind the Kings. 2nd round? what planet? care to substantiate?

Who's your daddy now?
:p

Kings 123
Mavs 94

A difference of 29, I guess I was too generous on my estimate.

Yup, Kings and Lakers in the Western Conference Finals, assuming Lakers get to the playoffs.

:(

The Mavs will still finish with the best record in the league, but, they will have to do something to get to the Conference championship. This is just the 1st game vs the Kings, there are 3 more. Last year they were 3-1 vs the Kings. Alot can change. If the Mavs play the Lakers in the first round, I do think they have a chance to knock the Lakers off.

certainly not you....but i am happy to be wrong about the margin and what i really disagreed with was you saying the Mavs are one of the worst teams....poor performance tonight but they are still one of the stronger teams in the league.

errr.... Sportscenter right after the game. You've got the two best teams with the best records in the NBA playing against each other and they lead the show off with the Laker game highlights. Wtf.

man, all of you have no faith in the kings. I gotta give props to that guy who predicted to win by 20...but even he underestimated him. So far this year, King's have delivered big time on all their statement game: The mavs, the Nets, and the Lakers. Come playoff time, they will be so hard to stop.

LOL your face!

So I was off by a couple of points.

Whoever thinks the Mavs can keep up with the Kings know nothing about basketball.

The Mavericks are this generations Cavs (the teams with Price, Nance, Ehlo, Daughrety). Lots of good players. Always win a first round series. Never amount to anything.

Mark it down. The Kings take it next year. The Lakers the year after that. Past that, the Rockets win a couple...there's no time for the Mavs.

Move along...nothing to see here...

<=== monkey dances are stupid.

"Lol your face" doesn't mean anything.

Go Kings.

the Mavs will win a title before the Lakers get another one....but maybe not until Kings go for a streak of 2 or 3...

I screwed up. I meant the Kings will win this year. The Lakers will win next year. After that, it's gonna be between the Kings and the Rockets for a bit. The Pacers might slip in there in 2 years, possibly, if Bender makes the leap.

Sorry...the Mavs simply don't have a shot as currently constituted. Nash is the most over-rated player in the league. He can shoot (sometimes) and can lead the break. Everything else he's average or worse (man up and team defense, half court passing, etc). He's not even close to being a top 5 PG.

Finley is an interesting character. He's like the Tony Fernandez of basketball (if you get the reference, well, then you know sports). He's just in the wrong era. Put Finley 15 or so years ago, and he's ripping past the Mitch Richmonds and the Rolando Blackmons and the other 2s and 3s of the time. Now, he's just an undersized 3 with a streaky shot. Not a bad player, but he could have been something special. I mean, think about when he came out, versus now. With KG, Peja, Dirk, 'Sheed and all those other tall rangy guys out there, Finley just isn't that sort of impact player.

Dirk needs to get tougher. He's a surprisingly good rebounder, which I wouldn't expect from him, but he needs to learn to mix it up on the defensive end. He's a lot beefier than I expected. Keep in mind, on a personal level, I hate him, but I know a lot about basketball and I can see greatness when it's there. He's got the body to be an incredible player. If he wasn't saving so much for the offensive end, I don't see why he couldn't get a couple of blocks a game as well.

Honestly, to have any hope at a ring, the Mavs would have to trade Nash and Finley for KG. Stick Van Exel in the lineup, let him take the last second shots, while KG and Dirk go inside out. Raef/Bradley can do work in the pivot. Get a Greg Buckner/Bruce Bowen/John Salmons type to play the 2 (and that's not hard to do...there's lots of those guys out there) and you got a squad.

One thing i've been saying ever since he got signed: Keon Clark is what puts the Kings over the Mavericks, not the Lakers. Look for this in the playoffs: Vlade will play bigger minutes, and Bradley will probably play none. That means Raef or Dirk plays the 5. Dirk had some really high rebound games agains the Kings in the playoffs. You think he's gonna out-body/jump Keon?

damn...I gotta get some run in now....

Go Kings.

It's called an off-game. They shot like 25% for the game. Horrible game for the Mavs. I'll admit, the Kings played excellent tonight and more than deserved to win, but saying the Mavs will never amount to anything based off one bad game is crap.

I didn't say they won't amount to anything because the Kings beat the snot out of them.

I said they won't amount to anything because I know a lot about basketball.

And by "not amounting to anything" I mean "being no lower than a 4 seed and winning a 1st round series for the next 10 years, making a couple of conference championships and maybe even a finals". They'll be good. DAMN good. I'm sure in the next 5 years they might even knock the kings out of playoff series.

They just won't win a championship. They're just not built right, and more importantly, too many other teams are built better.

They need to make a move to get over that hump.

Alright, my bad. I actually agree with you - they do need to make a couple moves to get over the jump. They did sign that Riggadeau guy but dunno if he'll be any good. They just seem to lack a consistant player and a big man inside who can actually play, and not fly away in the wind like Bradley. Usually they can get by because at least one of the big 3 steps up but no one did tonight (think Dirk had like 14 points, hell Van Exel off the bench had 20 something)

I would tend to agree with you as the Mavs are now, but they are collectively a young team and things aren't static. A big factor to keep in mind is Mark Cuban is really building a franchise that people WANT to play for (maybe if Sac is out of the question for them) . I think you'll see them work some smart trades/drafts to improve their weak points which they should be able to do because where the salary cap limits teams, Cuban knows how to pour on the gravy...

but whatever happens, i just hope NBA play returns to what it was in the 80's... but as I always scream, NBA is always a distant second to NCAA play...

The strange thing about the NBA: While the actual play has declined, the players have gotten so much better. (Which, I think, is the opposite of the NFL).

So, on the one hand, you can crave the brand of basketball that the 80s had, but you gotta remember that those kids were 4 inches shorter and nowhere near as athletic.

Amen to that, every challenge has been met by the Kings.
They may not get the No. 1 seed but they will be a force in the playoffs.

The Mavs are a great team, but they lack inside presence. Every time they face a dominant inside game (Shaq, Webber, Duncan), they lose. They beat the hell out of everyone else though :D I hope my man Cuban can luck into a good inside player in the offseason so we can finally win the championship.

Trade Bradley and Finley for Yao Ming.
