Hey looks like we have sister chips, wonder if they were on the same wafer?

just got mine today from the egg

I'll be posting OC results this weekend I hope in the "unoficial" thread, which I'll link

PS - there is a good thread here that could be helpful:
DFI Opteron OC thread

Even though its a DFI site it should be pretty relevant to any opteroner. And lots of us seem to have DFI boards anyway...

***Update*** And due to my snafu my second 165 arrived today... I'll be keeping one and selling off the other along with my E6 Venice 3200+ that I'm typing away @ 2704Mhz

this one is a retail box

How much voltage is actually safe to send into this chips? I don't want to fry my $300 165, but if it's safe and might get me an extra couple hundred mhz, I might turn it up a notch.

If you could, please fill out as much of that standardized overclocking form we have floating around in this thread, and post it. I know you have some items listed in your linked thread, but there are a few details missing. I'd love to add your overclocking info to my CAB2E thread. Wow, I'm stoked. I've got the same exact stepping as you do coming in very shortly. I hope it performs as well.

Gonna try for more after this puppy is broken in;)

you should be looking at a high OC on that stepping, the 175's with that stepping can reach 2.9Ghz+ .. are you sure that stepping is correct? As all 165's that i have seen are 0534SPMW like mine.

Hey bro would you leave mine out please until I finished testing.. Those were really prelim since I was first to get chip at new price (half) and people were interested. I had mobo issues which are being resolved as I type:)

I'll try to keep mine more specialized, though, so you can still get some good info in this one.
I'll be sure to post my overclock on my 144 CAB2E here when I get it in.
Good thread! I'm gonna steal your idea of a standardized form, so here it is!

People fill out this little form with your system info and I'll add it to the main post!

*Example*
User name
CPU/Stepping: Opteron 144 CABNE 0540 FPBW
Max Stable OC: 2.96ghz @ 329HTT
Voltage: 1.55v
Stability Test: Prime95 small FFTs 12 hours
Mobo: DFI NF4 Ultra-D
PSU: PCP&C-510
Memory: 2x512MB Geil Ultra-X @ 263mhz 2.5-3-3-7 w/8:10 divider
Cooling: Zalman CNPS-9500 @ full RPM
Case/Case Cooling: Antec Sonata II w/120mm intake & 120mm exhaust
Ambient room temp: 78F
CPU Idle/Load temps: 40C/52C
Verification if >2.8ghz: *link to screenshot with prime95/CPU-Z/speedfan/etc. running*

edit added user name so I can just copy/paste it!

i started one already with just o/c data.

i think your thread is good for discussion of o/cing. my thread is purely data. it's nice to have it separate.

Zebo made a great guide for this:

Just curious, but why did you pick the 148? I see it runs in the mid-$200's and the 165 was below $300 when it was in stock. Seems like the best bargains were in the 144 (1.8GHz), 146 (2.0GHz, nice multi), or 165 (cheap dual core).

DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D,
A64 X2 4400 Toledo @ 2420MHz
MSI X800pro, Silent Boost Lapped
Maxtor 6Y120MO and 6Y160MO SATA HDs
Corsair 2x512-XMS-4000PRO v3.1
Vantec 520 Stealth PSU

This is my other rig, I wanted a single core, I can allways change to a dual core later if I want on my Asus rig.

:( Just got off the phone w/Monarch. They didn't get their Lanparty Ultra's in today. They're almost definitely 100% expecting them Monday and they will overnight me on Monday. So on Monday either they're overnighting me both items or just the chip & I'll get the board from NewEgg  I about told 'em to cancel the board and overnight my chip so I could have it all Monday, but I'll take a chance on Monarch. Here's hoping

Current OC settings (currently running 2x Prime95)

CPU: Opteron Dual Core 170
Stepping: CCBWE 0534SPMW
Overclocked speed: 2.6GHz
CPU voltage: 1.47 volts (CPU-Z)
Cooling: Thermalright SI-120 with 120mm Enermax fan
Idle temps: 39 degrees
Load temps: 52 degrees
Motherboard: DFI NF4 SLI_DR BIOS 623-2
Ram: OCZ4002048ELDCPC, Platinum EL
Ram size: 2048 (2 x 1024Mb)
Ram timings: 2.5-3-3-7
Ram divider: 5:6 (216MHz)
Ram voltage: 2.7 volts

On first boot I went directly to 2.4GHz at default vcore (1.33V). It was stable.
Went later to 2.7GHz but had to increase vcore to 1.45V. It goes into Windows but Prime 95 fails in a few minutes. Tried also 1.50V but it fails in 12 minutes (core 1 seems to be the weaker one).

I don't wanna go beyond 1.5V. For the moment I will burn at 2.6 GHz / 1.47V

I will try also a DFI NF4 Expert tomorrow or during the week. I have also to properly install the SI-120, I didn't use Artic Silver (because I will be switching to the Expert)- just normal white thermal paste.

I have a Big Typhoon also, but not willing to go through the install process again. Too difficult/risky. I don't think the SL-120 is much behind it anyway.

EDITED: 19/11/2005
New system is set: mobo Expert, CPU, SI-120 with AS5.
Same result for the Opteron, but cooler (6-8C) - it is the Artic Silver 5 I guess.
System is Prime95 stable after 8 hours. I stopped testing, it is good enough for me.

CPU: Opteron Dual Core 170
Stepping: CCBWE 0534SPMW
Overclocked speed: 2.6GHz

Cooling: Thermalright SI-120 with 120mm Enermax fan
Idle temps: 32C
Load temps: 40C
Motherboard: DFI NF4 SLI_DR Expert BIOS 1102 (stock)

which test of prime are you doing that's failing?
