**OFFICIAL** Rock Band Thread

The same guy who got GH3 early has Rock Band early(sorry kids, only the game, not the bundle) so he's posting oodles of youtube videos.

Linky: http://www.youtube.com/user/pdtecrj

In other news: a member of SA has procured a copy of Rock Band and occasionally plays it via live stream. It's not up at time of posting, but I'm sure it'll come back: mms://stream.vg/waffle

That should get things rolling 😉

Got mine preordered at gamestop. Gotta call monday and see if they are doing a midnight launch, when I preordered they said they weren't sure yet.

I've been stoked about this game for months, can't wait til tuesday!

Anyone heard anything about the portability of the drums? My family loves the Guitar Hero games so I have to bring those when I visit, and I'm sure they will like this too. I just don't want to take 15 minutes to unpack and set up the drum set.

edit: what would be awesome would be if someone cooked up a program to play the drums on the pc. Like those pads that simulate real drums so you can just jam out for a while, that would be frickin awesome!

The 'portability' of the drums is fairly decent. You still have the full giant drum face to store, but the rest you can pull apart in about 5 mins and store somewhere. It's basically 6 aluminum pipes, the two 'V' feet, the face with the drum pads, and the kick pedal. It's not as portable as the wireless Les Paul from GH3, but it's not that unwieldy.

They have parts at the end of songs in Rock Band to where you can just jam out for a minute. Not sure exactly how it works, though.

Essentially, there are two parts where you 'jam.'

The first is what you use to activate overdrive(RB Star Power). There's a short 'jam' session then you have to hit the green note and you'll activate star power. Then, at the end of some songs there is another 'jam' section where you basically bash on all the pads as fast as you can to rack up major points. If you miss any notes after the ending bonus section, you lose all your points.

Good reviews but man $169 is a steep price for a game.

It's actually less than I was expecting. It was originally announced at $199 for the pack.

I agree, and that's part of the reason that I can justify springing for DLC for Rock Band but not Guitar Hero.

I played it at BB and thought it was a lot of fun. I actually thought that it was gonna be like a copy of Guitar Hero but instead I was impressed when I played it. Unfortunately I've been spending too much on games and hardware (damn 8800gt), so don't think I'll be buying it.

well I expect it to not be a copy of Guitar Hero, but to be Guitar Hero (but they added more things and jazzed it up).. see, reason being, Guitar Hero 3 is the guitar hero copy, while Rock Band has true guitar hero in its blood. That switch of developers is why this holds true. 😛

Just got automated call from gamestop confirming my preorder and said to check with the store for midnight release. Called and a midnight release is confirmed for tomorrow!

Best news I've heard all week! One less sleep between me and rock band!

yay! Amazon shipped my Rock Band pre-order out today!

I got the same email! I paid for two day shipping, so it should be here Wednesday.

If you are so inclined, some CAGs are calling Amazon, complaining about the shipping, and getting the shipping refunded.

Apparently, Amazon shipped out the regular ground shipping a few days ago in an attempt to get those customers their game on the release date. Many people that paid next day or 2-day shipping say that Amazon is holding their orders until this week to intentionally try to make sure those customers don't get it early.

The end effect is basically that ordering quicker shipping does nothing for you since Amazon is staggering their shipments based on what shipping service you ordered. I don't know if it's worth your time, but it might be worth looking into if you want some $$$ back. Also, someone suggested not to call until after your order actually ships so they don't fudge up your shipping date.

Link to thread where this is being discussed

As stated earlier, my preorder is at EB/Gamestop so I'm solid, I just thought I'd give you guys a heads up on possibly saving a few bucks if you were interested.

Aye, it's too bad I'm anal about not getting another wired guitar. I love the fact that the guitar with GH3 is wireless since it's strapped to you. Something like the drums wouldn't matter because they're stationary. I can't tell you how many times I'll walk around with the guitar swung behind my back when I go to get a drink or something while playing. That's why I wouldn't pre-order RB. I'd rather wait until I can buy the things separately next year. My brother did pre-order it and he said he was bringing it when he was coming home for Thanksgiving. So, I'll get to try it out then 🙂.

EDIT:

Looking at the Ars review, I do like how the guitars are bigger. I've always wished the GH guitars were more lifelike in size. Charge me $5 for that extra plastic 😛.

true, but if you played a real guitar odds are you'd have a wire too =P

My pre-order is locked up at EB/Gamestop, but I found out yesterday that my parents are getting my brother a 360 for Christmas so I want to get another copy of Rock Band so we can play online. I called the Best Buy about 20 miles away that's having a midnight sale and the guy said they didn't receive their shipment yet (but somehow most other stores have) so they don't know how many they're getting, and that "a lot of people are going to start lining up at 3:00pm, so I should get there soon."

I hate Best Buy.

Since you said you want to play online, I'm not sure if you saw this from the Ars article:

There are other multiplayer modes like the expected score battle and a "Tug of War" mode where each player is on the same instrument and has to win over the crowd as they trade off on sections of the song, and these can be played online. The Band World Tour mode is not available online?and that's a shame?but the real draw here is getting a bunch of friends together to play.
