I tried Titans very briefly, last night.
Played Crysis 3 (for the first time) for about an hour. Unfortunately, I usually don't have enough spare time to play games during the weekdays. 🙁

Anyway, I tried overclocking and boom.. it went to 1100 MHz no problem on air. And with custom fan profile (a bit noisy), the max. temp reached was 69 degrees Celsius (GPU #1) during my Crysis 3 play last night. I think I can push it further and I'm going to try it this weekend. Good thing is, Friday is national holiday in Korea. 😀
Honestly, I was very skeptical of the overclocking results I read on various reviews. (cherry picked samples for reviews).

From my brief overclocking experience last night, it makes me wonder why did Nvidia release Titan at 837 MHz reference clock ? I think they could've gone for 950 MHz easily. (or even 1 GHz).
 
Are you able to tell based on the components used for the VRMs and then number of them ?

You might able to get good clocks like that with unlocked voltage. Unfortunately there is no unlocked voltage. Once the price drops come and I get a few I will still water cool them though, mostly because I like having a dead-silent computer now :thumbsup:

Some of those components were familiar, like the DrMos Fets (big sqaure IC - component next to the inductor - grey large sqaure component). Those according to the datasheet after finding what model they were can handle a maximum current of 45~50As depending on the PWM frequency of the VRM circuitry.

Each phase uses one, i.e. if all 6 phases are active you multiply the power capability by 6. This is assuming a number of things but a figure of 350~360W should be accurate but bare in mind that this is the absolute maximum.

They took tons of flack over the 480, now they've got one of the most efficient chips on the market, it's also the most powerful, and oh hey, look at that it's quiet too :sneaky:

Yeah, it's like 8800GTX to GTX 480, and then back to 8800GTX, in terms of quiet-ness - with Titan perhaps being even quieter? I hope it's not gonna be a tick-and-tock.. but then one could always undervolt GTX 580, for much cooler and quieter operation, and have it a bit like today's TITAN. It was the 5870 that got NV in trouble, keeping them from running GTX 480 about 15% slower (performance equivalent to 5870) and with even 35+% less power consumption which is like going down from 275W to 200W, if their "hard-earned" egos didn't want to win too badly. It would have been "overall losing" if they clocked it low and cool enough, only to still lose to 5870's even lower overall power consumption. NV's humongous die size would only make them look bad in front of financial investors. No way was NV gonna do this. AMD won with the 5970 anyways. But it did save NV some serious flak, like from a gunshot skimming the thigh muscle, but completely recoverable, rather than a rifle shot shattering the femur bone.

so an overclock to 1GHz isn't be a great step upwards from its default speed.

You are talking base clocks or boost clocks PowerK?
And to answer your last question there, it's probably to allow room for what you are doing right now.
 
I'm curious to know what average overclocks are in SLI with actual stress testing performed. OCCT or Heaven/Valley/Tropics looped for hours.

Titans showed up on newegg's Canadian site last night and I took the bait :\ Will have mine on Friday and I am going to see how they do overclocking first thing.

I can't find blocks available for them anywhere though unfortunately. I won't end up installing them until I find waterblocks though. I have to tear down my current system and don't want to put the loop together just for the CPU to tear it down again when I do get Titan blocks.

I'm gonna pray for AMD to stay around so I can afford to PC game in the future. Otherwise if it was Nvidia only we might be looking at 2k video cards.

I think EK is the only ones making a waterblock currently and you're right they are out of stock.

Yeah I just spoke to EK support. Blocks are in stock and shipping now, but, their standard bridge/link system is not compatible with them :\ They told me they are making a custom bridge for the Titan blocks that should be up for sale in about 10 days. I'm assuming it's the one advertised in the Origin custom PCs using Titans

Looks like my Titans will be sitting in their boxes for a few weeks until I have everything together. I really dislike tearing apart, refilling and bleeding my loop more than I absolutely have to. PITA and I only want to do it once and be done with it.

Already have my 680s sold for close to $800, so guess I am without a gaming rig for a few weeks, oh well.

There aren't enough people out there willing to throw down 1k per card for NV to make a living selling GPUs like that only. There will always be mainstream cards that will fit every budget regardless if AMD lives or dies.
