This is better than the Kansas vs Memphis game two years ago since no team is outright imploding at tge freethrow line.
That was classic, especially with Coach Cal insisting all tournament that his team's crappy free-throw shooting couldn't possibly hurt them.

This would have been hard to envision back in January after the beat-down the Hoyas put on Duke. Coach K did a hell of a job reworking the team.

You know it's funny you mention that. I was thinking the same thing today. At the time of watching that game, I told myself there is no way Duke is going to make it very far in the tournament.

Great game, Butler was definitely a worthy opponent. I soooooo wanted that half court shot at the end to go in the basket, would have been the best finish ever. It was so close. Butler's final two shots were really close. Anyhow...great game all around.

Damn my bracket for PTI ended up really good just because I had Duke winning it all in that one. 94 percentile 😀

In my other Yahoo bracket I finished in the 99th percentile. 379th overall. I picked Duke over Kansas in the Final. And had Butler losing in the National Semifinal and WVU losing in the National Semifinal.

I just got back home from the game. Damn, Butler was so close and a bounce here or there would've won them the game. They played lights out and have nothing to be ashamed about.

Another Wolfpack fan here, but a North Carolinian first. I can cheer for Deacon Demons, Tarheels and even Blue Devils, just so long as they're not playing State.
As for Coach Krzyzewski, you overestimate him. Quadraplegics? No Way!
Paraplegics? Maybe...

Finally, FWIW, Coach Cal has never been indicted, much less convicted, of anything. It would have been interesting, however, to see how the Big Blue Nation reacted to a vacated National Championship to go with his two vacated Final Fours.

you can cheer for the tarholes?

that is fucked up.

I banish you from wolfpack nation.

😀

You were at the game? Wow, must have been crazy there.

My wife is a Butler graduate. 🙂

It was incredibly loud. This game was basically a home game for Butler and probably 65,000 of the 71,000 were rooting for Butler.

It was a great game and the better team won, but I can't help but think that Butler lost the game more than Duke won it. Butler had ample opportunity to win the game and some of the shots they took really puzzled me. When Zoubek (sp?) got his fourth foul, I don't know why Butler didn't pound it in the middle and try to get him to foul out. Regardless, one thing no one can deny is that Butler left it all out there on the court. A stunning performance, to say the least.

Oh well, I think Butler can be very proud of their effort. They return 4 starters and most of their team next year and I heard on ESPN that Butler has 3 top 100 recruits coming in, which is more than Syracuse got, for example. Butler has been good for a long time and I don't expect that will change in the near future. Playing a strong pre-conference schedule, including a lot of Big Ten teams and ranked teams, has really benefitted them over the years.

Oh, and a closing jab to you Michigan State fans who were bashing Butler and especially those bad sports screaming and cursing in the halls of Lucas Oil Stadium after Butler beat you -- at least Butler spared you the humiliation of another major smackdown at the hands of a Carolina-based team. 🙂

Of all the teams this year... Duke was definitely not the one I expected. Damnit.

Duke was very lucky that Hummel was hurt earlier in the year, or else Purdue not only would've beaten them, but would have probably been the #1 seed in that region.

I feel so bad for the Butler players right now. They played such a great game and as I said in my previous post, I really feel that Butler should have won that game.

Veasley you had a layup. Why did you kick it out?

Yes, that was one problem that Butler had and it was frustrating. There were at least two times I remember where Butler had clear paths to the basket and should've driven it to the bucket. Worst case, they get fouled. Also, Veasley missed 3 fairly wide open three pointers. If he hits even one, Butler probably wins.
