Please list your setup as well.

I got 4647 on a 1.6a P4 overclocked to 2.4 (150 fsb) and a radeon 9500 softModded ---->>> 9700 (core 344 / mem 303) and 512 ram @ 374 cas 2.5

Btw... anyone here those sound test? OMG!!!!! I want sound like that in all my games from now on!!!

2000 called. They want their DX7 hardware back.

Hardy-har-har. :frown:
For all the games I play, this Radeon 7500 is more than enough, and gives me crisp dual-monitor output.
This benchmark is being released for a small group, the ones with uber-hardware.

And there's a LOT of users (the majority, I'd say) who don't have one of the half-dozen chipsets this demo will work with.

Their site blows.....as if they didn't know they were gonna get trounced today and prep for it. At least they haven't been /.'d YET then they'll really be toast.

Well, that's the whole point... If they want it to scale with new cards in 18 months, they have to make it demanding.

Who cares anyways, it's just a benchmark.

Strangley enough, my score has raised 200 points just by running it a few times. I'm now over 4800. 🙂

Sorry. 🙂 I mean no disrespect, but what were you expecting? You couldn't possibly expect a 2+ year old card to continue to fly through benchmarks? Be greatful it even runs. I have a Kyro2 that ran terribly on 3DMark2001 and probably won't even start 2003.

DX8 level hardware has been available for well over 2 years and there are a multitude of cards available that are DX8 compliant. There have been no less than 16 (!) products from ATi and nVidia that support DX8 at various price points over the years. Not to mention DX8 cards from SiS, Trident, Matrox, and 3Dlabs. You'll excuse me if I don't show you too much sympathy.😉

If you care enough about your 3DMark score, then upgrade. If you don't need anything faster, then who cares what 3DMark says?

For the most part I don't. But I WAS still hoping to see a pretty demo like they did last time with 2001.... they froze out EVERYONE with DX7 hardware.
While there are several variants, there's still only a handful of chipsets that'll do the job:
GeForce3 (NV20?)
GeForce4 (NV-whatever)
Radeon 8500 (R200)
Radeon 9000 (RV250?)
Radeon 9500/9700 (R300)
GeFFFFfffffffffffffFFFFFForce FX (NV30) [hat blowing away in the wind]

How is this different than any prior version of 3Dmark? My Kyro sure as hell can't run the pixel shader tests in 3DMark2001. The only DX7 test in 2003 requires the support of cube maps, so my Kyro is out.

Its a benchmark of the latest features of new hardware. Your 7000 can't display pixel shaders even in software. Without pixel shader support, you won't see the "pretty demo." There's 2 things Futuremark could have done:

1) Rewrite parts of the demo to render the entire scene in software. If you emulate a pixel shader in software, the entire rasterizer has to be done in software.
2) Rewrite parts of the demo to emulate some of the shaders using DOT3 and cubemaps. The scene won't look the same and will be rendered differently than the other cards, making your potential results completely invalid.
While there are several variants, there's still only a handful of chipsets that'll do the job:
I don't know how well 3DMark2003 supports other chipsets, but there are/will be DX8 chips from SiS (Xabre), Trident, S3 (DeltaChrome), Matrox (Parhelia), 3DLabs (P10).

Basically, they had to do this because scores were getting to be ridiculous. The newest benchmark is for the newest hardware which eats previous benchmarks for breakfast. The radeon 9700 has no compitition from the last 3dmark, it was just too easy for it. The big thing now is playing with mainly the DX8 features. Sure, my GF3 can do pixel shaders and all that, but it doesn't have the power to do them well, so I'm sure it'll be a joke in the benchmark. but I guess thats expected from a 2 (or 3?) year old card that I have. I've been thinking about upgrading, but maybe not for 6 moremonths or so

Man, this thing kicked the snot out of my card. My system is not the very latest, but it's not that old either. My score:

1020 3d marks.

My hardware:

P4 1.6 oc'd to 2.1GHz on an ASUS P4B266-C with 256MB PC2100 mem oc'd to PC2700 speeds.
ATI AIW Radeon 8500DV 64MB oc'd to 250MHz core and 400MHz mem.
Running Win XP SP1, DX9, Cat 3.1's and Rage3dTweak v3.7, most recent mobo BIOS (1005).

My system was crying for momma... How humiliating. Almost makes me want to go out and buy a 9700. Almost...
Maybe in a few months, when the prices come down some more. Until then, I think I'll stick with good ole 3dmark2k1SE.

BTW, My 3dmark2k1SE score was a respectable 8,250, which isn't great buy any means, but at least I didn't feel like a total loser. Oh well, the times, they are a changin'.
