If you missed out on getting a PS5, and you're still looking to pick one up, you should be able to get another chance this Thursday (i.e launch day). It appears that retailers will have consoles available for purchase, but regardless of whether it's an online store or B&M, it looks like all stores are requiring you to purchase online. (I assume this is to avoid excessive crowds... like we've been seeing with the whole month-long Black Friday deals.) I haven't heard a lot about timing from all retailers, but Walmart will be releasing stock at four times on Thursday 12PM, 3PM, 6PM and 9PM (all EST). I saw some internal documentation from Target that states that while consoles will be in the store, they must be purchased online for in-store pick-up. (I assume they'll also have online-only stock too?) As for Best Buy and Gamestop, I haven't heard anything yet about when the consoles will be available.

I’ll be too busy with my series x to be honest. I can’t be bothered to try to beat out people for one of the few available. I’ll wait.

I’d really only have one game I want to play on it anyhow.

Saw on a digital foundry video that on the ps5 you cannot manually select 120hz. The refresh rate is determined by the game. In dirt 5 for example you can engage the mode for 120fps and the refresh rate changes. When you exit the console reverts back to 60hz. Oh well

Productivity issues caused by the virus I presume.

Not when Microsoft can have everything ready to go. VRR, ALLM, Atmos audio etc and full RDNA2.

I do not give Sony a free pass at all. IMO their head got too big from the Ps4

Just went to Best Buy to pickup my Xbox Series X and heard the employee ringing up the guy next to me talking to him about the digital foundry video and how Xbox Series X loads games so much faster than PS5, and that Red Dead Redemption 2 loaded so much faster on XSX than PS5.

We have people getting hype about loading 2 year old games a couple second faster on next gen consoles.

Not talking about what awesome XSX or PS5 games everyone is going to play at launch.

That is where we are at with this gen huh.

I may end up with both consoles later. But my xbox one X had very little time used compared to the ps4. Microsoft just didn't have any really good exclusives that interested me at all throughout it's lifespan.

I do have gamepass and plan on keeping the ultimate edition of it. Majority of titles I would likely play on Xbox I could play on pc. The only positive side to playing them on the console would be 4k vs 2k resolution.

It’s a big deal, backwards compatibility. Some people are still playing certain games and being able to load them faster and run them better is a good thing.

Yeah and it's sad that backwards compatibility is this big of a deal, because there are no next gen games to play right now.

There are a lot of games not on PC or that have upgrades over the PC version. Like Gears 5, gets global illumination ray tracing.

XBOXSXSX seems like the better overall system, hardware and bells and whistles, but for me, there is literally no reason to pick one up because all of their games are also on PC, right? ....and with even more bells and whistles.

^oh maybe I spoke too soon, heh. ...but don't they eventually release all those games onto PC through the store?

If there were no BC at all, imagine it. Pretty much all console launches have barely anything to play. At least this time you don’t have to ditch your library for a new box.

No, a lot of titles are getting upgrades that the pc doesn’t get and the console loads faster than a PC can due to velocity architecture. It will of course depend on the title

Having "barely anything to play" is MUCH better than "having nothing to play" though.

Like even if there are a handful of "next gen" games at launch, like is usually the case, it's so much better than trying to convince people they need to play games they've already played, again, because that is all they got.

Are you trying to say there aren’t new games? There are and there are quite a few to be honest.

Isn't Godfall literally the only new next gen game?

Everything else is on current gen and/or a remaster of an old game (Demon Souls).

Well I guess the freebie Astrobot but while I'm sure it's fun, because Astrobot is one of the best PSVR games, it's not a reason to get a new console

Everything on XSX is on current gen too, for a while, no?

There new releases that have enhanced versions for the new consoles. You could say they are available on everything else but they are 60fps experiences with much better visuals.

Assassins Creed Valhalla
CoD Cold War
Yakuza Like a Dragon
Falconeer
Watch Dogs Legion

See going forward there is no generation anymore. There is no real “only on the new console” games. They are just getting the best version of those titles.

Those are all ps4/xbox one games. I'm talking next gen exclusives there aren't any of.

Not sure what you are talking about no generation anymore. That is simply not true. Maybe on the Xbox side of things but PS5 is going to have PS5 games.

I also remember hearing MS said they won't have any XSX exclusives for at least 18 months but that was first party only.

Yea I was also talking exclusives only which there won't be any in particular for either ps5 or xbox in the near future.

Ps5 for sure will have it's exclusives later and those are what usually bring me over to play on a console.

I will say that if you aren't a pc gamer the series X is the probably the best compromise you are gonna get for all around good hardware.

I can't stand anymore AC games, same with far cry. Same formula, just different setting and characters.

Even though I really enjoy ghost of tsushima, even that gave me open world fatigue because while the side stuff is fun, it wasn't really that interestibg where you didn't get tired of doing it. Although GOT had nice little stories to go with the side quests. I'll finish it one day.

Witcher 3 is the only title I actually enjoyed the side quests, let's hope cyberpunk held the same aspect.

They said yesterday i believe that Ratchet and Clank and Gran Turismo 7 will be out first half of 2021, and Horizon will be out second half of 2021. Although I'm pretty sure I ready Horizon is a PS4 game as well so while it looks good in the trailer it is probably going to just be a port of a PS4 game. I wasn't a fan of the first one so I'll probably pass on the second one.

Because the lowest common denominator is the current gen.

Remember Halo Infinite they showed off? It's clear why it looked like it did. Because it's built for the Xbox One.

I want games I can't play on current consoles.

Like there is no way God of War or The Last of Us 2 or Ghost of Tsushima could run on PS3/Xbox 360. Just no chance.

Also apparently while I don't care about the game, Cuberpunk has been delayed not once but twice and the rumored reason is because it runs like crap on Xbox One/PS4.

Horizon will also be a ps4 title like the new miles morales spiderman. I played the first horizon, got to the end but stopped lol. The story did nothing for me but what kept me playing was the gameplay, weapons, and different type of robot creatures to try and take down for upgrades, etc. It had a unique style of gameplay for when it initially came out.

You aren’t listening. There are not going to be many. That’s the point. It’s better this way. No matter what you have, you can play everything for the next 3 years. When you upgrade many of those games will get upgraded visuals, especially on the series x. With the way smart delivery works you buy the game once and only once for any Xbox console and it works with the proper settings turned on.

that’s not how it works anymore.

They build the game from the ground up on the new hardware and the API allows easy adjustment down to the old console. Halo looked like it did because the project lead was trash and now a bungie employee jumped back to fix it and he has a history more grounded in Halo.

I mean if you did nott pay attention Gears 5 was upgraded from the Xbox one x to the series x with Ultra textures from the pc, global illumination ray tracing, and 60fps at 4K in 2 weeks by one member of the team. That’s how easy the APIs are to work with now.

Also despite what you think, there is NO CHANCE any of the series x or ps5 games could run how they do or look how they do on previous hardware. So even though the game is on the old system doesn’t mean it’s the same at all. The physics are different, textures, resolution, performance, ray tracing all of it is only on the new hardware. It’s literally no different than it was in the past. You are simply looking for a hard stop where there are no more new titles for old hardware or new games just aren’t released at all for them. That’s not now it is, that’s been known for months. It will be this way for a few years. Both Sony and MS have said they will continue supporting the older hardware for a while.
