I was at BB last night and they had a demo PS3 on display. I played some off-road racing game (I don't know what it was called) for a little bit but got bored with it so I was looking at the console in the plastic bubble. There were no cords attached to the console; not one. I'm trying to figure out what reason Sony would have for displaying the shell of the console in the plastic bubble but housing the actually working parts in the base of the display.

Maybe so they could hide the air conditioner.

That and/or prevent any yahoos from doing anything to the actual functioning console.

I have half a mind to go camp out with a tent, a laptop, generator, and wireless broadband modem. Man it wouldn't be a problem at all to camp out there for a week. Too bad I have to work. 🙁

Has anyone checked their local stores for lines yet? I'm going to try to start tonight but i'm thinking that its to late. I got my camping stuff in the car, food and water and have the day off from work tomorrow. I saw in the news this morning people already lined up, big lines already in some stores around NYC.

I'm going to check several stores and hope that one of them has a shorter line than 10 people.

if you weren't in line by yesterday, you are probably out of luck...

in reading the FW thread about this, all of the Best Buys and Circuit Cities have more people in line than the store's supply...(one of the CC's that has 100 units has 108 people line already)...alot of the BB's around Dallas have had people camping out since Monday or Tuesday...

I think that is a little wierd... what do you all think?

A corporate run web site trying to use their bandwidth and associated costs withpromoting only their products? SHOCKING

PS3 dealbreaker for those (like me) with older HDTVs.

The PS3 does not support 720p -> 1080i upconversion.

Why does this matter? It matters cuz some games (like Resistance) are 720p, and the PS3 will output them as 720p (or 480p). Unfortunately, MANY TVs do not support 720p at all. They support only 1080i for HD.

"The maximum display resolution is currently set to 1080i. For highest image quality 720p is recommended. To change this setting, you must exit the application and change your Video Output Settings from the Display Settings option in the Settings menu.

Press the START button to continue" to 480p

Wait wait wait,.... wait.

That whole family is camping out for a PS3? For their son? If they're all camping out,.... how are they paying for it? Don't they have jobs?

Why do I get the feeling I'm helping them pay for that PS3,......?

Not to mention school - shouldn't that kid be in classes or something? He looked old enough.

Because you probably are.

Well, every place around here already has a line longer than the amount that they were promised before Sony cut numbers. Looks like I won't be getting one.

if a store gets "x" (say 10) ps3, why would more than 10 ppl wait in line? may be 5 or 6 more ppl can stand in some hope, but what abt the others? :-(

for those who care and don't mind buying bundle to keep or to flip it on ebay.

fry's says they'll have it friday at 8am.

60 gig model with marvel ultimate alliance, madden 07, nba2k7, gundam, dark kingdom, ridge racer 7, tony hawk 8 and resistance = $1079.91

20 gig model with 8 games, presumably the same titles as the 60 gig bundle = $979.91

How many they have they don't list and I haven't stopped by to ask.

they probably don't know it. I agree I see maybe 5 to 10 extra waiting. hoping someone ahead might give up.

I think stores should do what some japanese retailers did. Lottery.

You'd think that with the supercomputer under the hood, they'd have at least thought of this simple little thing called upscaling?

It sounds more and more ridiculous every day. They need to start pimping some new games, quick.

Ridiculousness confirmed

As it turns out, gamers who own older HD sets that boast only 480i, 480p, and 1080i resolutions will have 720p signals downsized to 480 instead of being upscaled to 1080i. We tested this development on older television sets with max-720 games Resistance: Fall of Man, NHL 2K7, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07, and Need for Speed Carbon. Sure enough, the system downscaled all four titles to 480p rather than moving up to 1080i.

WTF was Sony thinking?

I went to Best Buy last night and saw some people in line. When I walked out I could smell someone was smoking pot. Anyway, do you mean to tell me that these people were waiting in line and the thing doesn't come out until FRIDAY?!? I just figured it came out the next day and they were waiting overnight, I didn't think people actually waited for multiple days.....wtf is wrong with people?
