Hey Thugs,

Did your new board fix the heat sink contact issue?

If so did it lower your temps any?

RH :)

yes the new board completely fixed the HS issue when using the Alpha PAL.
my idle temp dropped 3*C and my full load temp dropped 7-8*C during P95 :)

well...i dunno if you would want to add me to your database just yet...for i have not even sucessfully completed one benchmark...for what its worth...this is what ive found out:

-the P4S533 BIOS does NOT detect the P4m as a mobile cpu (or at least the BIOS im using ...1005C) ...it detects it as a normal P4. however, win xp prof. does detect the cpu as a mobile P4 under system properties.

-the vcore on this board defaults to 1.575 when the P4m is installed.

-the highest FSB i tried on this board is 160 (1.92 ghz) with the 4:5 mem ratio. i havent tried anything higher (i heard the P4S533 had a 160 FSB limit). keep in mind that the pci freq. is at 40 (too high) and i was unable to complete any scisoft sandra benchies due to either the PSU or heat.

-i know my 2 sticks of corsair xms3000 can do ddr400 @ 2-3-3-6 with default voltages (2.5v on this board) when installed together (2 x 256mb).

thats all for now.

EDIT:
forgot to list my hardware.

P4m 1.7 (SL5Z7) Malaysia
avc sunflower heatsink
P4S333 (533 BIOS v. 1005C)
2 x 256mb corsair xms3000c2
Enermax 350w
win. xp pro.
rest is gravy (or irrelevant).

What's holdin' you back anyways PJ? Did you conclude it's the board? I recall reading you tried both chips but that your FSB seemed to be limited to approx. 175mhz correct?

Yeah, it was the board. Something flaky in the Gigabyte bios. Oh well! I got it up to 215 on my IT7. Then my ram said no!

Sonny, I'm going to use Iwill P4HT (845PE). I wanted to stick out from you Abit & Asus guys... :p From what I read on the net, it seems to give "true" voltage unlike my Abit BD7II that I had. Probably try air cooling first and then move to water...

DP, well it looks like they getting out of it... 'Rook & PJ are selling their chips on the FS forum and I'm picking up that C1 P4m from Erik... I kinda doubt I can hit higher than Erik though since I'll be using same XMS3200C2 stick.... We'll see.. Busy weekend coming up.. :D

no ~ he made the sad mistake of turning it off ;)

were thinking it was either the pci geiger counter or his cpu fan fried the fan header :(
still waiting for the casualty report...

could also be the northbridge fried :(

How is that? Just curious since I have one not even really put together hanging out of the side of my case...

Mik isnt sure yet ~ the pc geiger was recently installed, so its a variable he'll need to check into.

itll take some time for him to test all the parts that come out of that system.

I'm not ruling out a memory stick I'd modded either, tho it seems unlikely since I'm pretty sure I installed it after it went haywire. It just seems kinda coincidental that the board went at the same time I was doing a lot of heavy memory experimentation (which also sux cause I didn't get to finish). Anyway, the board is definitely dead...sad really, it's been a darn good board for me. A moment of silence please...:p

Well, it wasn't the video card, which I'd suspected at one point. Haven't tried anything else yet, I'm a little worried about losing this board also, tho whatever IS the culprit would surely be fried also...

Any of you with the P4m ever try running SETI? I am curious as to what kinda WU they can crank out with such high FSB's. More so if you can do it @ 2-2-2-7 mem timings.
