This database is intended to get everyone?s P4m results in one place for comparisons. I?m also gonna keep this post updated with any important info as it comes up.

The initial P4 Mobile thread with general discussion and info is here

HEATSINK ISSUES

Heatspreader
The P4m doesn?t have one. Therefore the overall height of the chip is reduced, which can (and has) caused problems when installing the HS. bigtoe stole one from a spare P4 and installed it on his P4m, I?ll see if I can get the info on that...the rest of us don?t use a heatspreader.

Alpha PAL
The excellent solid mounting of the Alpha will cause the mobo pcb the bend, which will cause a problem for those wanting to just swap out cpu?s without the heatspreader. Adjustment of the mounting hardware will be necessary if installing on the same board, at the least. In addition, it may be necessary to shim the heatsink using aluminum or copper material.

Swiftech MCX4000
The not-so excellent mounting of the Swifty makes it difficult to mount on a heatspreader-less core, care is needed to hold it in place whilst tightening the screws. The Swifty is forced onto the core by springs, and due to the shorter height of the cpu, the spring tension will be less. It?s therefore advisable to obtain some slightly shorter screws to maintain good pressure.

Watercooling
?more to come?.

If anyone would like to be included in this database, please post in this thread!

Keep a slot open for me. ;) I wonder if my TruePower 550 will handle the beast since it only has 24A on the 12V? :) I'm also curious regarding the IT7 PCI/AGP lock crapping out. Regardless, it will be something new to play with. My waterblock will not have any mounting issues, and I also have a few sticks of RAM up my sleeve.....

EDIT: I also should remind myself to do a fresh Ghost image of my drive before I get started huh?.... :D

Thanks for the info Erik! I'll be incorporating some scores in the main thread, but just a few "key players" to keep it simple, and I'm gonna wait till I get my XMS3000...hehe ;) Any issues with your waterblock you want me to include?

Technonut, consider your slot reserved...;):)

maybe we should add PSU type to the specs?
since it seems to be the topic of discussion lately?

im using an Enermax 550W

i think PJs testing has been put on "hold" til a bios rev comes out.
he isnt ready to cancel the project yet! ;)

Yeah, you can put up what I have Mikki. I have not abandoned the p4m project, just in "stall" mode until a new bios is up. Sunday's are a little hard for me to do much posting (hence my nick) ;) But, tomorrow is Monday, and my wife will be gone all night, sooo.... Maybe Gigabyte will put out a new bios overnight :D
I won't hold my breath. I am also waiting for Bigtoe to give us some results. He gets both a p4g8x and 8inxp in this week and has a p4m to put in them. We shall see.....

By the way, I have an Antec 480 TrueBlue

I still dont understand whats so great about these 1.7 mobile chips, I could get a 1.8A for cheaper and overclock it to the same or even 3 Ghz clock speed for a cheaper price. Big deal we get about a 60 mhz increase in FSB, P4s dont depend on the FSB as much as AMD does.

running 225fsb is awesome dispite the lack of mhz.
and since when is 2700mhz slow?
would you rather have a 1.8a or 1.7m @ 2700mhz?

the experimental factor is a big lure.
extreme ram testing in 1:1!
motherboard testing for 800fsb compatability,
im having a blast being a part of all this :D

if we can somehow get these on Granite bay......... ;)
(which was the idea to begin with)

when intel releases the 800fsb chips there will be a 2.4c (?) 12x200fsb cpu, so concider this a preview! ;)

its something to talk about ;)

am i leaving anything out guys? :) :D

i have a 1.7 P4m coming in soon...but the problem is i dont have a decent motherboard to overclock it with (and a possibly a good PSU)...anyways...i have the following:
asus p4s333 (533)
corsair xms3000c2
enermax 350w psu
as you can see...my motherboard is already the bottleneck because it has 160 FSB limit (i think)...not to mention that theres no such thing as agp/pci lock...
my psu may be the bottleneck as well...since it supposedly supplies 26A on the +12 line (according to the enermax website here)...
my ram is verified to run at ddr440...but with relaxed timings...despite that...i know my ram can keep up to some degree...
until i get a more overclocking friendly motherboard...this will have to do (unless i can get a hold of my friends P4PE...but even that has a max FSB of 200)...
btw...i will be using AVC's sunflower heatsink for cooling...

I'd be willing to bet on Thugs, Erikean, or Mikkis 1.7m@2700mhz vs. your 1.8a@2700mhz any day ;)

Added psu's and added info to Alpha section...:)

PJ, post the pertinent info and I'll throw it up there...too bad we don't know any bios specialists...

pay, uhhh, no offense but, have you been following the threads for these chips? :p

Thugsrook, nope, I think you about covered it...:D

Here it is:

1.7 | 8INXP* | XMS3500 | Alpha PAL | Antec 480w True Blue TP
THREAD
benchmarks = 175fsb
memtest86 = 175fsb
divx encode = ?
prime95 = 175 fsb - 5hrs

*8INXP likely has a bios issue which limits actual CPU from going over 162 fsb, though Board says 175 fsb

I received the 1.7M and am up and running. :) The 1st thing to say is I am happy that the IT7 MAX DOES have a working 33/66 lock. At my current 225MHz FSB (2.7GHz), my PC Geiger is showing an exact 33/66.
This is great news for my Radeon 9700 Pro.

I had no issues installing my custom waterblock, and with Prime95 running for over 2 hours, my temps are 40.5C with the voltage @ 1.70. My office temp is 73.6F. It took 1.70v to be stable at 2.7GHz.

I decided to install my 512MB stick of PC2700 Kingston Value RAM with Winbond BH-6 chips to start. I had to raise the voltage to 2.9, but it does not worry me much since Corsair guarantees their XMS RAM with the same chips as the Kingston up to 2.8v. There is no heatspreader, and the chips are cool to the touch. ;) The timings are set @ 2-7-3-3. (I have not tried anything more aggressive yet.)

I am running an Antec TruePower 550. My onboard USB and Firewire ports are all functioning well @ 225.
The system does "feel" more responsive than my 1.8A @ 2.9GHz, so that is a good thing....

I have much more testing to complete, but I have run a few loops of 3DMark2001 along with Prime95 so far. The Sandra 2003 Pro benchmarks are:

CPU: 7287/1522/3519
MM: 10738/13670
Mem: 3231/3227

More to come.........

3DMark2001: 15787 (Radeon 9700 Pro NOT OC'ed)

PCMark2002

CPU: 6692
MEM: 7401 :Q
HDD 1411 (2 40GB Maxtor ATA133's in RAID 0 HP374 3.01 BIOS)

Hexus Pifast: 78.31 Seconds

DVD2SVCD with TMPGEnc Plus: Passed stability test @ 225

Prime95 Stable @ 225

Memtest86: Passed @ 225
