Surprisingly, full pricing details are here. NES games will be available for 500 Wii points, Super NES games for 800, and Nintendo 64 for 1,000. A 2,000 Wii-point card can be had at retail for $20.

$5 NES
$8 SNES
$10 N64

Nice post... Say not to bash Nintendo here (Actually I am) but I thought this thing was going to be quite a bit cheaper? $249 is quite a chunk of change IMO... Especially once the Xbox 360 has the next price drop, there may only be $50 difference between them. I know, I know... It is all about the games and retro ones (NES, SNES, N64), but still, I think this it is too expensive.

I'm with you. I thought they were really going to surprise everyone and bring it in at $200 or less. Still, considering it's $150 cheaper than the 360 Premium system -it's still substantially cheaper dispite their differences.

The price is a letdown, I was going to for sure buy one at $200, but $250 I am having second thoughts until I can see other games for it.

Do any of the new controller features integrate into the classics ?

Cause bionic commando would be kinda cool if you could fling the arm using their wand.

$250 is not surprising at all, and since this is a release price you can't really compare that to the 360 price cuts cuz it's been out for a while now. Still pretty cheap for release, and I don't think it would take very long to drop in price.

I am amazed everytime I see someone say they thought it would be $200. Nintendo never once said or suggested anything like that.. it was ALWAYS "under $250" which means $249.99. It's like those car commercials when they say "starting under twenty-thousand" which means it starts at $19,999.99.

For some reason the pricing per game for the virtual console seems too much for me. I know it's cheaper than the complete ripoffs they had with the GBA ports, but it just doesn't "feel" right. Maybe it's just me though. I'd be MUCH more inclined to go on a buying rampage of SNES games if they were $1-3 each. At $8 each, they add up fast. As-is, I'll probably only be buying a select few.

Ummm... that's true, but people were still hoping for $200 since that was the price of their past consoles. So I don't understand why you are "amazed" some people are disappointed.

Anyway, I'll be buying it. Considering it has a game packed in it seems like a very reasonable price point to me.

Well the whole angle Nintendo took is the multiplayer and "for the masses" aspect - Wii sports by yourself? This thing was made for multiplayer so you're dropping $60 for another controller right off the bat. That's $310 for two player action (and to me, two players is pretty much required to enjoy most of the games).

Add the cost of one must have game - Zelda for instance, that's $360. Even if you don't buy the extra controller it's still a $300 outlay for the system with zelda. Not really the "for the masses" price I was expecting.

Even a price drop of $20 or $30 dollars would help so much just psychologically. Japan is getting it without wii sports for $215 - that is just so much more enticing.

Yeah, at $310 for two 'complete' controllers this system is anything but cheap... 🙁 $360 to add zelda or mario...🙁

I was anticipating the system to cost $199.99 and games to be $40.

As I am no loner a hardcore game the anticpated price structure would have made me a lot more likely to jump in and try things out.

There is no way they could get away with $250 if the ps3 was cheaper...

they screwed over australia with a $399 = $299USD same price as a core 360.

I don't care less for wii sport.. i would have rather liked it at $299AUD = arround $225USD...

Nintendo Wii + 1 Controller + 1 Classic Controller + 2000Wii points + Zelda + Mario + Turmour Center = Thats all i wanted ;( $500AUDish in total should have costed me

Now i have to buy the wii for $399AUD which has a game that i don't even want ;( which end up making me spend $599AUD
Nintendo Wii + 1 Controller + 1 Classic Controller + 2000Wii points + Zelda + Mario + Turmour Center + (stupid Wii sport costing me $99 )= $599AUD

Also why are game price $110AUD :? thats the stupid same price range for XBOX360/PS3 games...

all lies ... screw everyone except for japan/US :! nintendo/Sony/Microsoft mono

my post from OT

I'm disapointed with Nintendo

1. Console price is ok, except still they think, 250 dollars means 250 euros and everyone is happy, but still 300 australian dollars which is by far the cheapest.
2. Release dates, they screw over europe again like all the others, sure its only by a few days. But its leaving a bad taste. The european market is the biggest of them all, why not appriciate the support they get by not releasing it here last. :|
3. Price of wii games, 50-60 dollars, translates to about 3800isk, but still I expect the games to sell here for 5000kr. Its not expensive, but its not in line with Nintendo cheap. Now the starting cost is only lower compared to the xbox360, but the running cost remains the same.
4. Price of emulated games, good thing about buying online is that the currency is actualy what they say. (why I love how steam works 🙂). Games at $5 and so on is just ok, but it is too expensive still. Old games, especialy old NES games should be so cheap that you can actually not worry about wasting a bit of money just to try the old games. They need to slash the price in half for it to not matter much. Its the same as with audio cd's, they have to be cheaper so people are willing to risk spending money on them.
5. Region codes, stupid and illegal according to trading laws. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regional_lockout

Results, I'm not sure if I will get a wii now, probably will though, but if I do it will be with a hint of regret.

Ok, almost the cheapest

$399 AUD = 21.147isk
$250 USD = 17.622isk
250 EURO = 22.367isk

if you don't care for - nor will ever play - the bundled game, it is not such a good deal . . . i have zero interest in Wii Sports.

If you like it, it may be. 😉

i would have like to see a choice of bundle

I think that if they drop the prices on the "classic" games they will sell much much more.

I am a bit underwhelmed on the price. $250 is a bit much.
