Bullshit. They said that about the wii and it just wasn't true. People still want graphics, and theres so much room for improvement. People don't know what they want until it's shown to them. Everyone is saying this gen is good enough, and then everyone goes ape shit over the BF3 demo, which was running on a high end PC, surpassing today's consoles.

So when the real next gen is shown, and people see graphics and physics like they've never seen before, it's going to matter, like it always has, and always will. Its night and day between the 360 and the wii, and it'll be night and day between the xbox 3 and wiiu.

Yeah that's true and that's why I say Nintendo gonna get dreamcasted because XBOX720 will be announced next year most likely before this thing is even released. That will lose them a huge chunk of the hardcore they are going after.

Expect to be as big a leap as PlayStation 1 -> PlayStation 2 -> PlayStation 3.

im not sure about that, itll be noticeable but the only way for it to be as larger as the 1-2-3 jumps is to have every game look like crysis at max settings

i simply dont see that happening even in 2-3 years

I was done with Nintendo during last years crappy showing they had, and this year looks to keep the trend. I'm just not the type of gamer they can do anything for anymore.

And didn't they say a month or so ago that the next console was supposed to be more of a core gamer system? Yeah not with that controller, Nintendo.

before wind waker was revealed, they revealed this really dark and nitty gritty zelda game for gamecube where link was riding on a horse through a forest with lightning and rain (i think through a forest can't remember exactly), and it had a very mature and dark look to it, similar to the new zelda they showed.

then next time we saw the zelda game on gamecube, they showed a childish cell shaded looking zelda, titled wind waker.

EDIT:

here is a little more info on it...

Who cares if it is cartoony, Wind Waker was an awesome game. Gameplay>Graphics 100% of the time.

ummm he asked what i meant by "get the wind waker treatment" so i explained it to him.

and yes, gameplay is better than graphics 100% of the time, but that does not mean that better artwork and graphics won't enhance games at all. if that were the case, we'd still be using atari graphics. and artwork/graphics can really set the tone of a game.

stop kidding yourself like graphics don't matter.

true, but when people are expecting a great game with great graphics, you would be dissapointed if you got something different.

Can you imagine the outcry if after announcing Halo 4 yesterday with great graphics, next year they showed it off again, but did cellshading graphics?

I agree with you to a degree. Graphics and gameplay go hand in hand to an extent. Without an actual game and graphics, you don't have anything to play. The current generation (and PS2 and PS1) were all capable of providing great gameplay, great looking games, and great looking games with great gameplay (for their time).

I agree that gameplay is everything, but there's no harm in trying to make it look downright stunning. And sales and reviews prove that people are fine with "good enough", but that doesn't have to be the standard.

Artwork/design is different than graphics. I've been playing God of War Collection on PS3 and the art design makes the game look awesome. The graphics aren't great but the way they designed everything is what makes it awesome.

yea now imagine if you then turned on your ps3 to play and it was now cell shaded and looked like an 80's disney cartoon with colors and blue skies everywhere ... that wouldn't turn you off in the slightest?

I don't see why the core gamer can't use that controller. It's basically the same layout as the 360 and PS3 except your hands would sit further apart.

I'm taking bets on who will copy the Wii U's controller first...Sony or Microsoft?

Considering that the PS4 and XBOX720 have been in development for at least 2 years, how hard would it be to add a touch-screen controller to the package when they are 24 months from launch?

Nintendo will still likely capture the sales crown for the next generation. Having 12 months lead time and the 2012 holiday season without any other new consoles to deal with is an unbeatable advantage.

No, they will wait till years later just like they did with Kinect and PS move.

I think the Wii U looks interesting and has incredible potential. I liked the concepts that were shown in the promo video. As with any console, though, we'll have to wait and see what kind of content is available for the system.

The new controller is comfortable in the hands, with smooth white styling and well-designed ergonomics. The buttons are all where you expect them to be, along with the dual analog sticks. It may look awkward in pictures, but in practice the controller is a joy to hold.

Pretty much what I expected.

wonder how much those controllers will cost.

My exact first thought as well, when the Wii first came out it was $40 for the Wiimote and $20 for the nunchuck, so $60 to get one setup. Considering this has an 6" LCD on it and whatnot, expecting at least that if not more 😡

I'm guessing they will need to eat some of the cost of these controllers in order to make them marketable. Hopefully they don't counter this by jacking up the price of the console itself.

The Wii U will launch for $299 (maybe $249 if Nintendo is feeling generous).

Yes, that would be $50 higher than the Wii launch price. But it's nothing compared to the $400-$600 MS and Sony were charging at launch.

touch screen lcd... this controller seems to be even more advanced than the 3Ds... wonder what kind of specs are in these controllers... probably gonna be 250, to make it competitive with the 3Ds!

I would have no problem paying $300 for that system. If it's that much I will probably get it at launch, assuming there will be some good launch titles.
