It's my hope that this game is what it took to get the Hawks back on their game; if that's the case it'll be something like 6-2 Hawks on Sun.

As I posted earlier: The Hawks got caught up in the playoff winning streak and played way too much not to lose instead of using their skill edge to knock the Flyers back on their heels. When they finally did wake up it was no contest.

I don't even know where to begin with that non-sense. The Flyers were helpless when the Hawks "turned it on" ? Obviously helpless, as they still won by 2. The last goal was a "lucky fluke" ? How about beating the offensive press and scoring on an open net? How is that a "lucky fluke" and not skill?

Not the empty netter. The goal that made it 4-1.

The one that bounce off of a Hawks back, completely changed direction, and went into the net.

Nice non-call on the obvious hook that should have been an easy score to make it 3-2. That call gets made 10 out of 10 times, but for some reason not yesterday. The strangeness continues.

Did you watch the game or read the wrapup?

Lucky bounce or not, that was a goal. It doesn't matter how it gets in the back of the net.

I watched the game. The call isn't made if the refs don't see it. Regardless, Chicago's powerplay sucks.

Again, past outcomes != odds...

You're boiling hockey down to a dice roll. It's a hockey game! You're a Flyers fan, but you talk about your team like they're not good enough to be where they are. They're a better team than their record indicates.

To say they had a .05% chance of beating Boston ignores the context in which it happened. They got Gagne back for game 4, and he made a difference. They lost Boucher and got Leighton back. Leighton played a LOT better than Boucher in that series. The Bruins lost some players to injuries.

Calls get missed, it happens. That non-call didn't decide the game. Also, fluke goals like that happen. Hell, the Hawks scored on that drive that got deflected a few inches off Hossa's (was it?) stick. You may as well call a third of goals a fluke since ricochet is part of the game.

You do know that Philly didn't have Carter or Lappy for the Boston series? Yes, a 30 goal scorer and the heart and soul of their D. Losing Boucher, you can't say that was an advantage... nobody knew that Leights would perform that well and Boucher going down was actually viewed as a psychological advantage for Boston. Boucher was, and still is, a leader on that team and they wouldn't have gotten into the playoffs without him. Case in point: the final game of the season vs the Rangers where Boucher stoned 2 shootout shots beating King Henrik (Lundqvist) and NY to propel them into the playoffs. When he went down, everyone said Philly was done and that Boston all but had it in the bag. Hence the .05% chance of winning off pure odds alone.

You say "well but it's hockey!" but what Philly did only happened two other times in the history of the NHL. So no, it's not "just hockey". It only happened one other time in baseball and none in basketball history. To downplay the history that Philly made is just pure ignorance. On its face, it's .05% odds, but it was even worse with the injuries of Boucher, Lappy, and Carter. To reiterate, if Philly wins, it will be the greatest underdog champion ever crowned in the history of North American sports. Yes, even greater than Lake Placid because that was just one game and not a best of seven vs the Soviets. The only thing that may rival it is the 2004 Boston Red Sox coming back from 0-3 against the rival New York Yankees and then going on to win the World Series. But they didn't have anyone really injured on that team and were at full strength. The Flyers were not at full strength vs Boston with 2 starters and then the starting goalie going down. They got in on the last shot of the season. They are fighting 6% odds as the 20th best team in the NHL vs the 3rd. It's completely improbable with the resurgence of players who either sucked or underperformed during the reg season like Leino, Richards, Van Reimsdyk, Briere, and Hartnell.

Goals that are considered "flukes" happen. The puck sometimes ricochets off of players and changes directions enough to head in. That's part of the game. The fact is that the Blackhawks only cut the deficit to 1 goal because of a "fluke" goal. What matters is that it goes in. Hell, hockey players will tell you that they don't care if every goal they score is a fluke so long as it's in the back of the net.

If we get right down to it, the Flyers could have taken game one. I mean, if not for the refs not seeing that the puck hit Kopecky when he was on the bench waiting to get on the ice. Play should have been whistled dead. Instead Kopecky scores the game winner right there. Crap happens. On both sides. It's hockey.

I looked at some comments, especially some on Yahoo.com and some of them are atrocious.

Among some of the most egregious was that the Blackhawks will kick the Flyers' butts once they get serious and bring their A game. If the Blackhawks weren't bringing their A game from the first game of the Stanley Cup Finals then they don't deserve to win. And in all fairness, it's not like some of the Flyers' top players are turning it on either. Until Richard's game 4 goal, Richards, Gagne and Carter had zip. The Flyers are a really team that is arguably as talented and contain as much depth as Chicago.

Chris Pronger is a dirty player. Listen, he's not the cleanest player but he plays just barely within the rules. Chicago fans know damned well that if Pronger was playing for Chicago, they'd be loving the way he played right now. It's like why Sidney Crosby is reviled by Philadelphia. He's a great player but Philadelphia hates him cause he plays for our cross state rivals.

The refs are conspiring against Chicago. Look, guys, the Flyers have more power plays so far but I think it's cause the Flyers are irritating the hell out of the Blackhawks who are retaliating. And if you asked Flyers fans before this series, they'd be saying that the refs and the league have been conspiring against them for at least the last 25 years. There have been some ticky tack, I'd even say phantom, calls against both teams and there have been some absolute non calls against both teams. Blackhawk fans, I know you guys will be paying attention to non-calls against the Blackhawks but Flyers fans can point to penalties that weren't called against the Flyers as well.

This has been a very entertaining series and I really thought the Flyers had a great chance to win it all before the series started and my thinking hasn't changed. The Flyers had little love and most predicted them to lose in 5 or 6 games. Considering the way the series is turning out it could easily be 3-1 Flyers or 3-1 Blackhawks. Instead its a 2-2 tie and essentially turns this into a best of 3 series.
 
what is with the singers playing with national anthems. That is the one song I don't think there should be any variation.

I wasn't paying close attention, but I didn't notice anything other than the typical drawn out last line. I like that at hockey games the focus is rarely on the performer. I remember watching this pretty bad rendition of the national anthem at last year's World Series and thinking that she butchered it (particularly toward the end when she screamed one line, flubbed two more lines and looked like she was going to cry). I did a twitter search and apparently most people thought she did a great job. They must have been watching in bars with the sound muted - I'm sure the closed captions looked right.

Flyers had two good chances on that power play. Hopefully the Hawks can do something with their power play.
