The NHL should be taking advantage of it as I write this and are not. Doesn't matter if its the whole season, they could be taking advantage of whatever time they have

Just read the NBA talks aren't going well. Imagine if the owners canceled the whole season. Wonder what that would do for hockey's popularity? hmmm...

The best response I've heard to this - did you watch basketball during the NHL lockout?

I wouldn't expect the NHL to benefit much from the NBA lockout. People don't choose not to watch hockey because they'd rather watch basketball.

damn you, elliot.

hurricanes looked decent, not great, but decent last night. elliot had some great saves in the 3rd that kept them in the game, i knew the canes were done for when they went into OT and couldnt net one with a 4 on 3 pp. oh well.

maybe they can beat the jets tonight. im going to watch local college hockey, however, because its 3 bucks and i can walk up to the glass :D

Pretty sure everyone can beat the Jets. Should be a-ok. Tell Ruutu to get some points! Have him in a keeper league (mainly because of his awesome hitting prowess).

Surprisingly the Jets are not at the bottom of the league............ the Blue Jackets have 1 point in 7 games.

Looks like Edmonton won't be getting 1st pick next year ;) :)

Cheers,

Canucks acquire David Booth, Steve Reinprecht and a draft pick from Panthers for Mikael Samuelsson and Marco Sturm

Booth is a pretty sick player, pretty happy about this trade though I'm a bit apprehensive about letting samuelsson go

Agreed. The perfect storm for the NHL would have been the NBA and NFL in a full blown lockout. It would be the only winter sport then. Alas, it didn't happen...but now I get to enjoy both the NFL and NHL.

Now if only we could get rid of martz on the bears....

stupid hurricanes. i have no idea how a team just throws away 5 on 3 opportunities time after time. and why the fuck chad larose is getting permanent duty on the top 2 lines is beyond me.

i hope they do horrible this year, so *maybe* theyll ditch paul maurice

It seems most of the Canucks fans are happy about this trade. One thing that Sammy has currently over Booth is playoff experience. Not only playoff experience but when Sammy scores in the playoffs it is usually a big timely goal.

I guess we will find out if Booth can produce come playoff time.

I was very happy with this trade. Two old players for a young speedy winger and finally legit winger for Kesler.

Booth - Kesler - Higgins will be good. Or slot Hodgson in for Higgins.

I did like Samuelsson, but he is just so slow and only scored because ofa good shot. Not a great passer and not a great skater. Plus takes bad penalties

'Salute' that, Jags. Laviolette prolly pulled out a few more clumps of hair during that goalfest.

B's/Habs, early second period;

Marchand and Subban mix it up-- ref embarrasses them by handing out matching minors for holding.

They exit the box and immediately re-engage. Linesmen intervene-- matching minors for DoG.

They exit again, drop everything and start throwing. Hilarity ensues;

Caps vs Edm....

One of the absolute worst officiated games I have seen a long time.
