not watching the game, but does PM play on defense?

if i'm in a long term contract and i know the team is going to suck i'm aiming for andrew luck to be my next qb.

win and still be the worst team in the division vs. win game after game after game for a decade is a no brainer. i don't even know why that's a question.

Really, how does Brees not get a 158.3? Lulz.

His yards per attempt was too low. Only 9.3; a perfect passer rating requires at least 12.5.

http://www.coldhardfootballfacts.co...lly_of_the_%27perfect'_passer_rating.html

Cliffs:

1. Passer rating has four equally weighted metrics - completion percentage, touchdown percentage, interception percentage, and yards per attempt.
2. Each metric has a cap - exceeding the threshold for perfection in any metric will not improve passer rating. The cap is 77.5% completion rate, 11.875% touchdown rate, no interceptions (not really a cap since you can't go below that), and 12.5 yards per attempt.
3. Essentially, exceeding the "perfect" numbers in one area will never allow you to make up for falling short in another area. It's an extremely picky and strange calculation that is pretty arbitrary in determining quarterback performance. In this case, Brees threw a bunch of short passes, completing almost 90% of them. He would have had to throw for over 100 more yards than he did (given the same number of attempts) to achieve "perfection."

Why... they should have gone for that on fourth.

I never did like fraziers or childers playcalls.

Childress struck me as overly conservative, although I'd have to look at some numbers to be sure. Frazier seems to be sticking to that as well, even taking it further in many cases. I don't like the call either. Ponder was on a roll and MN's defense sucked all day. If you give the ball back with under 3 minutes to go, even if you have all your timeouts, your chances of winning the game are much less than your chances of converting on 4th down. But NFL coaches will almost always choose to delay a loss rather than maximizing their chances of winning.

That said, I'm pleasantly surprised at how well the Vikings did, forcing the Packers to finish their game instead of rolling over and dying like they did against the Bears last week. Ponder played very well. We'll see if they can keep this up. Obviously their season is long since trashed but watching Ponder play is fun and if he plays the rest of the season the way he did today, I can see him getting at least three or four wins.

I can't stand these Bob Costas monlogues in the NBC Sunday night games. He's a smug, forced and unfunnier version of Dennis Miller.

I've always liked Bob Costas. :colbert: --but mostly for his baseball work. I love him in baseball.

but the "smug, unfunny version of Dennis Miller" is completely apt. lol.

....Dennis Miller is also really smug, though. That's, like, his primary genre.

I assume you're talking about the Vikes.

Yeah, I just saw that on SC. That's almost a fireable offense, if you ask me.

WTF was the MIN coach thinking? That's absolutely terrible.

Here's a very interesting stat...

Carson Palmer threw 3 INTs in the 2nd half vs the Chiefs.

The last Raider QB to throw 3 INTs in a half was Kyle Boller in the 1st half."

Why is Miami a "home game" for Tebow? He played at U of F, so I'd think that they generally dislike him in Miami.

local HS football legend. I could be wrong but I don't think the UF vs Miami rivalry is that big anyway.

I disagree with you guys. It was 4th and 10, and with the 2 minute warning, the Vikes were guaranteed 4 clock stoppages. Also keep in mind that the Packers weren't moving the chains in the 4th quarter, and had not run the ball well all night (up until the final drive).

There are more river boat gamblers as NFL head coaches these days, but most still are not and punting wasn't the wrong call given the distance, field position, and somewhat struggling QB. It's easy to criticize afterward once James Starks started ripping off 10 yard runs against a goal-line defense.

I think FSU v Miami is the bigger rivalry, then maybe FSU v UF....but I just assume that they all tend to equally hate each other, year-in and year-out.

This is how all inter-state collegiate athletics tend to sort themselves out.

You know, it would really suck if Luck sucks...

:hmm:

meh.

if Luck has his choice between the fins and colts, which team would he like to play for?

if the fins indeed get the 1st round pick, I think Oliver Luck, Andrew's dad will pull the Eli manning, and demand his son to be traded to the colts. :)

I think the COlts are a worse team and franchise all the way through.

Of course, Miami has the "Miami thing" going on: apathetic fans and owners, willing and able to create a championship team and sell them the next year...but they have been so awful for so long, yet also right on the cusp of being pretty damn good, that Luck would fare better there.

Plus, it's fucking Miami.

Indianapolis

Miami.

Indianapolis

Miami

....

Miami.

yeah, that's not a tough decision.

Wayne is 33. Garcon is 25. Wayne has the price premium that Garcon doesn't. Not that dumb of a comment.

As much as I like Wayne, they pretty much have to let him go unless Peyton restructures and gives up some money. Garcon is too unreliable to be a #1 receiver so look for the Colts to pick a receiver in the first 2 rounds of the draft next year and possibly even with their #1 pick if they can't get Luck.

They're probably a worse team, but franchise? LOL, even with Polian's recent bout of senility the Colts are still a model franchise. As a franchise, the Dolphins are pretty much a joke the last 10 to 20 years.

This season just shows who the REAL coach of the Colts was -- Manning.

I'd take Indy. I hate hot weather. :D

I'll see your "Dolphins losing to Tim Tebow" and RAISE YOU this "effort" by the Colts tonight!

My dish was out due to a wind storm (but mostly a half ass job by the previous tech) but it doesn't look like I really missed anything this weekend.

Indy a model franchise? I don't think so. They've had one of the best QBs to ever play the game for 12 years and they've managed 1 super bowl win. A model franchise, with Peyton Manning, would've won multiple Super Bowls.
