not sure what's going to be more fun tomorrow, listening to the giant fans, or redskins, or even the shittsburghers; or the dallas ones talking to them :D

Not really, he's on record as saying running/option QB's are not a long-term viable option in today's NFL, I happen to agree..

so do I...but as much as I like ICF's commentary in these threads, he has a particular hard-on for RG3. it never ends.

I'm just wondering where all the Redskins bandwagon fans are now. The weekly NFL threads are eerily silent where every week last year, it was hclarkjr and others lecturing us on how awesome RG3 was and how he was so much better than Luck. To top it all off, we had a few "media experts" predicting the Redskins would make the Super Bowl this year. WTF were those idiots thinking?

I don't blame the Redskins for picking RG3 (though I still think they paid way too much for the rights to draft him). I blame the idiot media for overhyping him and their foaming-at-the-mouth fans for trying to paint Luck in a bad light every week last year while glorifying RG3 and even worse, Shanahan. If you called RG3 a running QB last year, a herd of Skins fans would pounce on you and call you all sorts of names but unfortunately for them, last year's stats proved very definitively that he was in the same class as Vick, Newton, and others who are considered running QBs.

If memory serves, the Skins play the Raiders next week. If they lose that one, hilarity will ensue.

That's likely because RG3 fans were unbearably annoying last year.

This.

Pff, you gonna toot your own horn after each game that proves you right, and stay silent after each one that doesn't?

No, I believe this is the first time I've mentioned RG3 this year. Anyway, QBs have good games and have bad games. My contention has always been the following:

1. RG3 would initially have more success than Luck. Luck, however, would have the better career.
2. RG3 is a running QB and will be injury prone.

Aside from RG3, I've said the Shanahan is an idiot and got chastised for that. Anyone want to apologize now? :D

Shanahan is overrated, IMO, and is living off his Broncos days. I think he gets way too much credit.

That defense is still a joke.

Luck hasn't played spectacularly from a statistical perspective outside of the first game. What he does do, however, is come through when the game is on the line. There were a couple of points in the game yesterday where the Niners could've turned the game around but Luck came through on offense and the defense made some big stops. I think if the Colts had beaten Miami last week than they would've lost this game to be honest. There were rightly berated for their offensive line play and lack of defense against the Dolphins.

He's deceptively fast/mobile too. He's no Vick when it comes to scrambling for yards, but when he rolls out of the pocket with some momentum he can pick up 10 yards in a hurry. He had a couple plays yesterday that sustained drives with his legs.

Yeah, I don't think SanFran even knew he had the ball on the bootleg when he scored.

Great looking play.

Funny thing is that that bootleg left QB keeper was a trademark Alex Smith play.

:p

Andrew Luck is a modern day Steve Young in terms of his pocket passing vs running play.

Well at least Pittsburgh showed a few moments of not quite complete failure last night. But turning the ball over like that is basically a guaranteed loss. Oh well, maybe I'll help my friend root for his Bengals this year. I think I'd be pretty happy with Seattle winning it all though.

Quite enjoying the 49ers and GB losing as well though, hopefully they keep it up :D

Speaking of him, I think he's were he needs to be in KC -- "game manager", a term I hate, but I guess it fits him.

I don't think the traditional QB role is going anywhere anytime soon, especially seeing how players like Luck, Stafford, Rogers, etc.. keep getting drafted.

If anything, I'd prefer a player like Luck over RG3..., any day.

After the whooping the Giants got, I feel less excited about beating them last week.

Going to be difficult in picking the giant or redskins in any game till they show they can win something. beloved patriot defense set a new record for more yards given in first 3 games and RG oh and three on pace to break the pass attempt record. Giants had something silly like about 40 offensive plays, several of which ended up in a sack.

Careful now, if the Redskins beat the Raiders, you'll be branded a heretic for your blasphemy against RG0-3 (great one, Phoenix!).

OK, what about Kaepernick? I was one of the few people around here that hated, and still hate his taking over for Smith, essentially putting him in the same QB role of RG3.

Is he not now more exposed as a bit of a fraud?

As for RG3--I'm far more pissed at Shanahan than anything. Plus, he clearly same back too early--or needed some reps in pre season. Either way, his career is being poorly managed by the people that are responsible for taking care of him.

It would also help if the defense would step up and not put him in position to force play after play throughout every game.

So...does Pittsburgh have any fans left?

Maybe one guy that doesn't get ESPN or something?

Read *coughs* option...

People seem fascinated by that these days...

I was telling someone that people have tape on him, and he's being somewhat exposed.

I know Shanny is tired of the question about the pre-season for RG3, but it's legit. I shudder to think he expected anything more than what he's gotten from him up to this point. Oh, and this isn't last year, so that "we were 3-6 before making our playoff run" jive won't apply. They're 0-3.

Fortunately for them, that division sucks.

I'm loving the 49ers sucking. What they did to Alex Smith was criminal! It's good to see him working out in Kansas City.

All these running quarter backs are ok, if they adapt the running style to the NFL. There's too much of this read option shit thinking that college plays work in the NFL. There are times when the defense breaks down and having a QB that can get you some yards running is needed, but designing the play calling around running that QB will only go so far. We're seeing defenses adapting and we're seeing defenses adapting in the same game. All it's going to do is put a lot of physical strain on these QBs and break them. Great QBs are hard to find and normally last a very long time in the NFL. Using a QB as a battering ram is going to mean a very short career. Just like the usual battering rams, running backs. The physical toll is going to be too high.

Here is what I said about Kaepernick in December. To quote:

IndyColtsFan said:
It isn't that I think Kaepernick is that good; on the contrary, I just don't think Smith is the answer for the Niners. I've not really given an opinion one way or another on Kaepernick vs. Smith, but I do think the anti-Kaepernick crowd screaming for heads when he has had one bad game is silly. Smith has had good QB ratings the last couple of years, but he can't stretch the field and is entirely too predictable and limited IMO. That is why Harbaugh benched him.

On another note, I won't speak for AMDZen regarding Kaepernick but I will give my own opinion. I think Kaepernick is too gimmicky and will be another in the long line of flashy running/hybrid QBs that NFL defenses adapt to and consistently stuff unless he becomes a pocket passer. And if you do want to point out some real hypocrisy, you RG3 fans can't call Cunningham and Vick "running QBs" and say RG3 isn't one when RG3's rushing attempts are right in the neighborhood of the career highs for Cunningham and Vick.
