Are you a Netflix member? If so, there's an "HD" genre available in the Watch Instantly section. I'm not sure if it's complete though, as I swear it does not list The Office in there, which is definitely available in HD.

My hearing's pretty good (I have a musical education :p) and unless I put my volume up to some insane values, I can easily hear the fans of the Xbox over game sounds. The speakers are Z-2300 2.1 from Logitech, they have quite a punch too.

I can hear my drives (though faintly), my fans (Nexus 120mm at 5V) and most definitely my HD4870 (which annoys the crap out of me unless I drop it to 0% :p). I wish there was a system that is as silent as the Nexus fans at 5V and then I'll stop complaining :p As this is as much as I can bare without getting annoyed by the humming, hissing, swirling and what not :D

this whole install games option.... i just installed cod4 onto my harddrive
does this mean I can just borrow games from my friend, install them on my harddrive, give the disks back, and play the game?

No, you will still need the game in the DVD drive in order to play.

Not yet. I was going to see what options there was available first before subscribing. I guess $9 to try can't really hurt though. :)

Yeah, and with the one (or is it two now?) week trial you should have plenty of time to peruse the library before you have to start paying.

I already had a subscription. Now I'm looking again - the selection available on Watch Instantly is ATROCIOUS. I can't find a single movie I want to watch. This is, well, nothing short of horribly disappointing. :|

Oh, and The Office is on there. (Pretty much all the CBS/NBC shows are there)

Does anyone know if there's any talk of the Netflix service coming to Canada? I realize we don't even get the regular Netflix up here, but it'd be nice to get it someday. After looking through all the old bad movies in the Video marketplace which I've seen 100 times on tv, I'm thinking unlimited streaming of new HD movies would be about the coolest thing.

You know what I think would be fun? If developers could add costumes to achievements (or possibly just beating the game) and you could put them on your avatar. I'd so buy Ninja Gaiden 3 (if they do decide to make one) if getting an achievement or beating it gives me a ninja outfit :D.

Considering they can already do this with gamer-pics, I'd be a little surprised if the capability wasn't there for avatar parts.

I wish they would add in the ability to let me keep a game in my HD DVD so I could have 2 games in at once and not have to disc swap.

Are you really that lazy that you can't switch out games? :p Why offer support for a peripheral that's been discontinued?

A little bit of time with Netflix through the Xbox last night just goes to show why I think streaming media is years off and not a legitimate threat to conventional disk based playback.

1) As mentioned the selection is horrible. There's a few decent/recent things on there a couple "popular" TV shows, but otherwise it's nothing but a bunch of old VHS rips of movies that never were popular for a reason.

2) You are at the mercy of your internet connection. I have a 3mb DSL connection and watched a movie for a while at a halfway decent resolution only to have my connection freak out the stream and it dropped down to what seemed like a 320x240 avi. The quality was horrible.

3) With my 3mb streaming connection trying to fast forward was annoying. You could skip, but then you had to wait for 45 seconds while it buffered and reconnected.

I know my connection hurts me somewhat, but it's not like it's a total dog. And even still It's not going to be a revolutionary improvement if I were to bump up to 6mb or higher. I'm still not at the same resolution as a Blu-Ray or even OTA HD and I'm missing out on the higher quality audio codecs as well.

There's just far too many things lacking for me and I likely won't continue the Netflix subscription.

After a couple of days with the NXE.. I have to say it just sucks.
The new features are nice like the netflix streaming and being able to copy games to your hard drive... but I am not really using any of them as of yet. But the interface as a whole.... wtf were they thinking? I thought that this was supposed to be a nicer, faster interface? Before I had different panels for different aspects of the xbox. I'd go to that panel and everything was right there. Now, not only do I have to go between those same panels but on each panel you have to flip through a bunch of index cards. What rocket scientist came up with this and decided this was better/easier/faster? It's trash. Pure trash. The old interface was much simpler. Since I don't really use the new "features" as of yet (other than the XBOX Mii which I couldn't care less about) I just don't see a single thing good about this new "experience".

Well, I think I'll be canceling my Blockbuster subscription and keeping Netflix. It isn't necessarily because of the streaming but it is part of the overall decision.

Blockbuster is now $19.99+tax for three movies out. Netflix is $16.99 and no tax for three movies out.

Blockbuster keeps dropping benefits. Netflix keeps adding benefits.

There's a Netflix distribution center literally up the street from me so my turn-around time is fantastic. I dropped movies in the mail yesterday and another set just got sent out today and is expected to arrive tomorrow.

All of this together pretty much solidified my decision to switch over to Netflix from BB.

yes, the main feature of the NXE is to allow piracy so nobody has to buy games anymore :)

I wouldn't call the selection horrible anymore. It's not to the point where you can say I want to watch movie X, lets get it on Netflix VOD, but the selection is admirable considering the state of the industry.

As for 2, this is true, and can be annoying but TeleComs won't upgrade networks until services push what we have to the limit. However I think your connection is a little light to expect seamless service. Also the HD content on Netflix IMO is on par with OTA HD and streams like a charm on my 6mbps Cable connection. Netflix has already said they are working to add better audio.

As for you argument of this not affecting Disk based playback, if I have the option to stream or get the disk in the mail, I'm definitely going to stream. The selection is only going to get better.

going to 6mb would be double what you have now. I say that is pretty tangible.

Is there a way to force the 360 to always use the highest quality on netflix? And just let it butter for a little llonger? I had 1 bar, then quit and picked my show again and got 4. I wouldnt mind waiting a few mins to let it buffer to get the best quality

If you butter your 360 you're probably going to void your warranty
