Official Netflix Streaming Thread

Thought it might be a good idea to start this. I know theres a movie/tv show thread but I thought this would be helpful for those with a Netflix streaming account and looking for something decent to watch. Reviews, recommendations, new arrivals, etc..

Watching Arrested Development right now. I like that it's 22 min. chunks and I can fit in an episode or two when I have time. Last big obsession was the Office.

I actually caught a pretty good movie called Boy Wonder the other evening. Great acting and story for an indie flick.

i think breaking bad is on there.

others i recommend:

arrested development
the league
lost
the office(us)
13 assassins(movie with lots of samurai and killing)

He Was a Quiet Man
Another indie flick. Christian Slater plays a dude that is on the edge of going postal at work. He brings and gun with him everyday and on the day he has finally had it and is about to start shooting another dude beats him to it. Slater shoots the guy and becomes a hero and starts getting treated with respect at work but he is still a nut job. Not bad but not great better than most of the other streaming options.

It is. The wife and I are currently in the middle of season 3 on Netflix instant. The first few seasons of Mad Men is also there and worth checking out.

Yeah watched both those. Took a break in the middle of Breaking Bad, actually. For some reason the main character was starting to wear on me.

I'll just repost my recommendation list here. I keep it updated. I've seen everything below (some more than once) and almost all of the series/movies listed are very good. There are a lot of high-rated shows on my queue that I haven't got around to yet, so don't count this as an exhaustive list.

Netflix has a fantastic documentary library, by the way (their best instant streaming genre by far), and if you sort it by rating from highest to lowest, nearly all of the 4-5 star ones are amazing. A good number of the titles below are documentaries, and I highly recommend them.

- Burn Notice is entertaining so far, I'm part way through season 2.
- Life (the one with Damian Lewis) is a great 2-season quirky detective show.
- Sherlock season 1 is good, but only 3 episodes
- The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (Jeremy Brett as Holmes) is a classic

- Gunless is a fun comedy-romance-western with Paul Gross (the mountie from the old TV show Due South)

I still don't understand how this is the #1 rated drama on tv week after week. I watched it a while from Sasha Alexander through a couple years ago but just lost interest and I usually follow through on shows I start. Is it because of Mark Harmon and Michael Weatherly's good looks? Do people really care about naval cases that much? Is it the fake gore they purposely show?

It makes no sense to me why any of the popular network procedurals are that popular. I can't make it more than a few minutes into most medical, law, or crime dramas without being driven to madness by the woefully boring, contrived plotlines.

Shows like White Collar or The Unusuals (both on Netflix instant) or The Shield or The Wire are well written and unique. I can't stand NCIS, Law and Order, or even House. I get that other people like them and I guess if they are character driven like House there is some appeal, but I still don't like them.

And don't get me started on stupid sitcoms like Two and a Half Men when shows like Community, Parks and Recreation, and 30 Rock are on the air (and on Netflix and/or Hulu).

I like:

BSG
Burn Notice
Star Gate
No Reservations

Movies:
Man From Nowhere <- not in English, still amazing
Europa Europa <- Also not in English, still also awesome
Archangel

Jericho is a great series. Anyway I just watched surviving the game. Had not seen it since the 90s. Not bad, though it's production quality is early 90s...

D'oh. I came in here to recommend this movie. Definitely a hidden gem.

Totally agree. Ok, I watch Castle, because Stana Katic is a fox and I love Nathan Fillion.

A really fresh take on the detective procedural, which is available on Netflix, is "Terriers." It only lasted one season (ten episodes, I think) but it was one of the greatest TV shows I've ever seen.

Couple of good recent movies are now available, including Thor, The Rum Diary and Drive.

Also, if you like action and don't mind subtitles, check out District B13, The Nest, Point Blank, and Elite Squad: The Enemy Within.

finished watching Civic Duty last night. It's sort of like Falling Down with Michael Douglas but it's a lot more dark and secluded than that and not just some guy on a rampage. Many reviewers gave it 5 stars.

The Patriot was just recently added I think. I started watching it this morning on the treadmill, great flick.

I also reccomend Drive. I don't know why, but I loved that movie, the soundtrack was good to.

If you have a streaming Netflix account and enjoy documentaries I highly recommend Touching the Void.

From the linked site you can see the synopsis, read Rotten Tomatoes reviews and even play/queue the movie.

All great choices, if I may say so myself

Tyrannosaur
I Love You Phillip Morris
Drive
The House of the Devil

Fish Tank
OSS 117
