especially trying to get into a game with 5+ friends at once, it can get quite frustrating losing 1 or 2 people everytime a lobby splits or joins, having to back out, reinvite, and try it all over again.

the worst is when you're teamed with friends and it puts some of you in, but it auto loads you right away to a map, so it counts as a loss when you exit to re team up
i have over 400 losses cuz of this

I don't think I've even played half that many games TOTAL. How much time do you people have?

I have around 1100 matches in, but a LOT of those are losses that were recorded because I was looking for a descent match and kept joining/quitting lobbies. For instance, if I'm thrown into a match that's about to end with a loss, I don't even hang around for it. I just quit. I also quit any match with less than 4 bars. So it's hard to say how many I've actually played.

I have only played a couple times in the last month, but when I do play I am seeing lots of connection problems as well, and actually getting into a game with a party can be torture. I always have to keep my eye on the list and make sure my whole party stays in the lobby before the game starts. I remember one night it would take an average of 5 attempts to join a game before it would successfuly keep our party together.

These things worked fine in COD4. I don't know how it got so fucked up in this game.

Well my lowly 1mb/384 DSL service has gotten so bad lately I cannot work from home. Hell sometimes I cannot even check email.

I never played the first MW in Multiplayer but it sounds like it was better then this version.

Obviously "better" is a subjective term (in terms of gameplay, that is... from an actual connectivity standpoint, COD4 was superior thus far). My gripes with the gameplay center around the following:

  • You can dominate without ever firing your weapon. Ludicrous strategies such as 'run around like a headless chicken and stab people whilst being shot in the face' are rewarded. Substantially.
  • The maps lack flow
  • Maps are grossly cluttered with crap. This has increased camping dramatically.
  • Weapons are much more potent. By itself I don't mind it, but this has profoundly increased the consequences of latency/lag.
There's also the issue where the first shots from higher RPM weapons frequently don't register, but I suspect that problem is tied to the general connectivity issues.

So compared to COD4, your observations are (in my opinion) correct: COD4 was "better" in the sense that these issues simply did not exist.

I don't know if it was better form a network code perspective...or just never carried the load that the current game is carrying.

I have a really bad habit of reloading too soon after a kill. Anybody else do this? This usually gets me killed, and is the reason why I need slight of hand on.

If I do that, i just double tap Y really quickly. Stops the reload and you keep your weapon. Doesn't always work if some dude is already shooting at you, but if you get down or behind something or see someone before they see you its a good technique.

I always hated that MW1 and MW2 dont reward camping enough. It's very hard to find a place that doesn't have more than one egress. I like strategic games that are slow paced and where a thought process was required. I like when I have to plan a way to get from A to B successfully. I also hate that it's obvious that there is a person crouching even from all the way across the map. It should not be easy to spot someone crouching in the shaodws from that distance, but it always seems like people have spot lights shining down on them. I like having to spot movement to know that there is really someone there.

I wish they'd get rid of the kill cam, personally.

While you and I obviously prefer two very different styles of play, I agree that the kill cam needs to go. I hate it.

You might want to try Hardcore modes...they don't have the kill cam and remove a lot of the "aids" that people use to find others. Really changes the gameplay quite a bit.

I understand your concern about people having "halos", but I think MW2 does a much better job of hiding people in general.

Play hardcore team deathmatch. It sounds exactly like what you are looking for. I used to play it a ton when i first started. While the games rarely get to the 7500 point ending (instead they exhaust the timer) they are pretty much exactly like what you describe.

Because bullets do more damage, almost everyone uses cold-blooded so UAV and thermals don't work. Because you die quickly there is little need for commando because if you run up to someone to stab them, you die. There is no kill cam and not even a map until a teammate puts up UAV.

Hardcore is awesome when:

You have cold blooded pro & sniping. Good luck spotting that person!

hardcore is where it's at
you don't even need stopping power

and almost everyone is using silencer, cold blooded pro and ninja pro

is there a definitive on the best LMG?

I tried them back when I was level 20 or so and did horribly so I never went back.

Then I tried using the Aug w/ grip at lvl 70 and did pretty well 2-1 or better which is pretty well since my K/D ratio is at like .8 atm

I just prestiged and am using the LSW and doing almost as well with no grip.

The AUG is a beast. The MG4 and M240 take almost twice as long to take down an opponent, but the L86, AUG, and RPD kill fast. But the AUG is the most manageable IMO.
