Yea the rangers have become pretty popular. I've been favoring the RPD lately though, Bling it with a grip and rds or holographic and it is pretty good. Grip and ACOG works well on it for longshots too. Just need a few more kills with FMJ on it to get the mastery and 500 kills.

Are any other LMGs good?

Well, the MG4 isn't. It's just like the M249 SAW from the first MW. Accurate without much recoil, but horribly underpowered even with Stopping Power.

So far, the SCAR has been the best gun for me.

I also tried the riot shield thing. First of all, when you aren't using the shield and it's on your back, it does indeed protect you, but it doesn't protect you very well. Looking at the killcams I saw that it's at such an angle when you're crouching that it provides almost no coverage. And when you're standing, of course, it leaves your legs vulnerable. It does protect you well if you have it out and you're crouching, but that's about it. Good for drawing fire (especially in the form of grenades) away from your teammates, but not good if you are just playing in a random server without much communication. Also, bashing with the shield requires two melee attacks to kill someone.

I liked the LSW. It was pretty good when I used it. But now it's All FAL w/ Red Dot and FMJ. Or Barrett w/ Thermal and Red Dot on some levels.

Oddly enough, I thought Veteran on this was much easier than COD4. Though Favela was perhaps the toughest (close with Whiskey Hotel) it was much easier overall to me. I noticed no respawning enemies, though i was extremely slowly in Favela even after watching a few videos on YouTube for suggestions.

Veteran is MUCH easier in MW2 than in CoD 4. Like, I got through MW2's veteran easier than CoD 4's Hardened difficulty. Really because there are no more infinite respawns Veteran in MW2 just needs to be played at a slower pace, that's about it. There were maybe 2 points in the game that gave me any issues, most of it is just as easy as regular.

As for LMG's it's sad, the RPD was my favorite gun in CoD 4. RPD + stopping power and deep impact = fantastic. In MW2 the assault rifles so drastically outclass everything else I've literally used an RPD once.

Have to say on multiplayer, ran into someone using Akimbo Shotguns and it was disgusting how sick it was. Shotguns apparently have pretty long range and with Akimbo, you're dead before enough bullets from a rifle registers to defend yourself. It's almost to the point where it's cheap to use, especially on maps that have a lot of obstructions or small in general, then you almost have no chance.

I don't think it's so much that the guns have changed as the maps have. There's relatively few where a smg is a desireable choice, or at least you have to be very careful not to get caught out in the open with one.

Most of the lmgs are still a good choice, with the exception of the mg4 and m240.

The assault rifles are nothing special other than that they're a one size fits all weapon, where most of the maps require such a weapon.

But hardcore mode is a very different story. In that mode, the smgs and even the weak high rof lmgs become a serious contender, even without stopping power.

I've heard that the M1887 shotgun(s) (unlocked at level 67) have the best accuracy and range. I'll have to try them out once I get up that high. If I like them I might just not prestige. I don't play quite often enough to quickly get up to level 70 a second time and I really don't care about getting the extra create-a-class slot.

It's taken me about 1d10h to make it to level 51. There is no way in hell I am prestiging.

I didn't prestige in MW1 and was constantly criticized for it and called "lazy". Unless there's a tangible purpose to it (such as WaW's additional custom class slots), I won't.

I level up to acquire new gear, not to lose it.

I didn't play much of CoD4 since I only borrowed it from a friend for a few days. What does Prestige actually do for you?

It gives you an icon that's different from the regular rank icons, so you can show off the fact that you've gained more levels. It also forces you to start over unlocking all of the weapons, attachments, etc (you keep emblems and titles). It starts you back at level 1. It seems silly to give up everything you've unlocked, but it's kind of fun to go back and do it all over again.

Damn, it takes a long time to get those higher levels, and they added 10 more... I'm not sure I'll do it either, last time I only made it to level ~25 of the first prestige before I stopped playing (because all of my friends moved on to other games).

I actually enjoyed prestiging in CoD 4. There's something fun about starting back at square 1 (seriously). Unlocking stuff is fun. You can sit at lvl 55 (or in this case, 70) forever and I dunno, it just seems meh. The second highest killing friend on my CoD 4 list never prestiged.

Do you need to get to level 70 to do prestige? I'm guessing you do.

If I remember right you technically have to level to 71, since you don't get to prestige as soon as you hit 70 you have to play through 70 also.

i just wanted to come into this thread and say that i went 25-11 for the first time ever with 2 harrier kill streaks. i was playing ffa on highrise. this is quite a feat since i pretty much suck.

go me!

I prestiged once in CoD4 and immediately regretted it. I really didn't like any of the starting weapons, and most of them had awful iron sights. The iron sights in MW2 are quite a bit better, but I don't think that'll be enough to get me interested in starting over.

I like sitting at the highest rank for a while and enjoying the higher level unlocks. I could see prestiging if I played a lot more than I do, but as it stands, it'll take me a while to hit 70 and I'd probably never get there again if I were to prestige.

I have ~16k kills on CoD4, and never prestiged. I have ~20k on W@W, and prestiged ~4 times. Not sure if I will on Modern Warfare 2 or not. I have 24 hours of gametime on MP, and I'm already burnt out on it as of last week. I've been off since last Thursday, and I haven't touched MP since then.

my best is 29-0. I've had more kills, I think my most kills was 35 or something but with a few deaths.

All that you really get from Prestige is a newer rank symbol, as far as I know. Not worth it to me, and personally its fun to kill people who are prestige-ing cause they take it so seriously.

I don't see the point of re-unlocking something you've already unlocked.

I've never been flawless in MW1 or MW2. Best I've done is 37-1 on Wasteland. I've had a handful of 40+ kill matches on Team Deathmatch.

I don't think it's boring to stay at the top level. I like the ability to have options to change classes to how i see fit.
