Finally got a chance to play. I really enjoy this game but have no idea what I'm doing at ALL lol. How can I do air combos? I'll hit the guy in the air but my guy can't get high up to actually hurt them and keep em up like in the YouTube visa.

When you hit the "S"(knock up button) push up to jump almost simultaneous and your character will jump the same hight...

ok i've given this a lot more time over the weekend and the lag seems to be a lot better now. i am in MD and play with my friend in CA and we hardly even lag. the online interface still sucks ass but someone linked me to an ign article talking about capcom knows there are issues and will address em. i don't have the link right now however.

i'm also starting to grow on the gameplay of this game now that i can actually do stuff online w/out worrying about lag. i'm beating my friends pretty regularly however i went into another match w/one of my other friends and he just wiped the floor with me so bad. he was using X-23 and Phoenix which i had no clue how to play against, and he just crushed me. i think a lot of it is learning the characters as well and what to expect.

that said, i went back to ssf4 for an hour or so after playing mvc3 last night for a while and i still like ssf4 a lot more. just have so much more control in taht game it feels. like ssf4 is the game i can take serious, mvc3 i can't take too serious but it still is a flat out fun game. landing big air combos is just so rewarding.

yeah lag isnt too bad for me, but failing to join game sessions is SO FUCKING ANNOYING omg.

i think i like SSFIV better too, it seems much more polished as of now, and i really am having trouble with how much shit is going on and how there are three characters to learn instead of one, and a lot more tactics that are a lot cheaper available. and how its way more unbalanced lol. i fucking suck at aerial exchanges, and it seems like when you get stuck in one, you just sit there staring at the screen for a while not able to do anything.

if your opponent has you in an air combo and is someone who does alot of tag air combos, mash back/forth and the S button. you will combo break when they do the tag.

The Aerial Team Combo system can be performed 4 ways. Up, Down, Left and Right. To break it however, it's just 3 ways. Left and Right count as 1 direction, and then up and down. Aerial team combos done downward award you one whole level so this will probably be the most used one.

Soo as soon as I got to a reasonable rank this game is fucking demoralizing and I kinda don't like it. I feel like practice gets me no where. At least SSFIV I did ok in when I tried to learn.

Jesus, I ordered the collector's edition direct from capcom and apparently I picked USPS and they are just fucking me. It left New Jersey on 2/15 and it is now 2/23 and it hasn't reached my house in New Hampshire. That is like 1 day worth of travel possibly 2.

Sigh :(

I think they bump you up in rank too fast. I'm absolutely horrible at this game. I won 1 match and got moved up a rank and now I get crushed.

yea not sure how the ranking goes in this game either ... i got to "fighter" the first set of ranked matches i played, which was from beginner -> amateur -> rookie. i'd say I played like maybe 15-18 matches total to get there.

i also picked up Dante 2 days ago and am really liking how he plays. i think i now have a pretty solid 3rd player for my team. right now rocking dante, ryu, and zero.

although i may try out sentinel and work him in, because it almost seems stupid not to use him.

I have a feeling they match you based on % which is completely retarded. So me at 10-10, for example, can get matched with a 50-50. Because I've definitely faced a lot of dudes not in my same rank (9th lord or some bullshit). Apparently they're aware how shitty matchmaking is and are gonna fix it.

i thought the "win %" that you see on there is simply the % in your current session. i fought rookie people who were 0-0 and 0%, and assumed that meant they just were playing their first game of the evening, sine rookie is the 3rd rank.

I'm going to try and get some play time in over this weekend. I haven't had much time to play it yet since I've been working on my MvC3 project for iPhone but now that it's done, I'm going to try and port it to Android which will begin development this weekend.

I want to get some games in this weekend though between getting some work done, so if anyone wants to run some games on 360 send me a FR ... my tag is purbeast.

I'm not sure if I want this game. A new fighter would be nice, and it seems potentially a little more "noob friendly" than SF4 was. I'd probably just burn out on that though too.

it is WWWAAYYYYY more noob friendly than SF4 is by a long shot hah. but at the same time, i think it also has a lot of depth and is really rewarding when you can link together some huge chain combos.

edit:

it even has a "simple" mode where I think there is 1 attack button and you can literally just mash 1 button for combos that launch into the air, then jump into the air and continue to mash it for more combos. the specials are like dpad + attack button also.

Strange question: anyone with the PS3 version of this game experiencing the screen being "cut off" on the left and right a bit? For example, when two characters are maximum distance from each other, ~half of each character displays on-screen.

I have a 50'' Kuro. Never had any issues with other games.

I don't have that problem on a 53" samsung. Really weird.

Also purbeast, I think I was far better at SSFIV when I started vs this. I absolutely get my ass handed to me when playing decent people. In SSFIV at least I'd pull out some decent wins. I think I just suck balls at air combos in this or something.

Ditto. Game is just so crazy. My issue is getting in safely for attacks. I try to have my assists help me out but I still get destroyed.

well to anyone who cares, my strat guide app is done. here are the links below:

iTunes:
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/marvel-vs-capcom-3-guide/id422781309?mt=8&ls=1

Android:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.AndrewStanton.MVC3Guide

I submitted the iOS version last thursday, and it's still in review. It should probably be out by thursday. I didn't think i'd port it to Android so quick but i ended up doing it faster than I thought. I left out the framedata and move data for time being because it is going to take some time to gather that info, and i wanted to get both versions out before i added that in. it will be a free upgrade though.

Any questions or feedback are appreciated. There are videos of each one running in the links provided.

EDIT:

here is my "official" thread over on SRK where I'm going to be tracking bugs and stuff.

Played this on my buddy's PS3 and it was pretty fun. Still seems fairly complicated but it also feels like it's a tad easier for me to get in to. I could get this on the 360 and then it'd give me a reason to fix up my joystick. I need a new little project to work on and I never spend enough time on that one. Didn't even upgrade the buttons on it. Hell I might even get some material to build an enclosure from scratch too.

I am extremely surprised they didn't whole-sale rip SSF4's match-making system into this game. If you didn't know any better, you'd think this game came before SF4.

Finally played MvC3 and I like MvC3 fighting system more than SF4's. It's easy to learn but difficult to master, especially with the inclusion of 3 interchangeable characters makes it much more fun IMO. This isn't the first MvC game I've played but haven't played any MvC game since it was out on the Dreamcast.

I feel the same way w/ my limited MvC3 experience. While both involve some pretty great timing, MvC3 is less reliant on the memorization of the combos WITH that timing. Instead of a separate punch and kick in H, M, and L (plus the all 3 buttons) it just has H M L and a "special" button. And this is on normal so it's probably even easier on the simple control setup.

I like it. Kind of want to wait until it drops in price a bit though, or catch a sale. I doubt I'll get $60 of mileage out of it.

i'm STILL having issues with the button layout, i still continue to press wrong buttons. another huge issue i'm having is i cannot really figure out how to use my assists properly. i wasnt a big mvc2 fan so i never got experience with it. the one thing i've noticed when i play people who usually destroy me is that they are using their assists at the perfect time catching me and causing me to get royally f'ed.

i still also am having issues finding a 3rd character that i just really like. right now i'm abusing sentinel because he is just so easy to win with with level 3 xfactor. my main 2 are dante and zero though.

the one thing about this game that i still don't really like is how you can basically kill someone with full health for making 1 mistake. sometimes it can ruin the fun of the game.

othertimes it can however make it awesome when you are the one dishing it out. i literally killed this guys last 2 people who both had full health with 1 combo because he made 1 mistake. with dante i caught him with standing M as he was doing an assist with sentinel, and that led into a bnb combo which i cancelled into dante's hyper. i then dhc's into zero's hyper combo, and xfactored into his level 3 hyper combo, killing both of his guys at once. was pretty badass to actually execute tihs but it also was not very hard. wish this game had replays!
