This. For anyone who was into pot, this is nothing huge. The state just lost out on free money. This also made it easier for the cartels since now instead of spending their time slinging said weed from California to eastern states, they will just go back to the thought of growing tons in mexico and importing here. For me a medical user, all you did was make my $20 crop I grow incredibly more expensive and profitable, and saved me from the state taxes. I still can theoretically drive high as shit, in public, and get my weed from my store whenever I want.
Thanks!
Just because you apparently have a MMJ card doesn't mean you can drive high...you're still subject to the DUI laws, just the same as someone driving on prescription Oxycontin would be.
I DO agree that the prices are made MUCH higher by the criminalization of pot, not that it's a bad thing for it to be expensive, as it makes it harder for people to get. (it's still readily available, just at a higher price)
From all I've read, MOST pot in Kahleeforneeya is grown here, not smuggled from Mexico. I'm sure SOME crosses the border for consumption here, but I suspect MOST is just transported to other states. THe legalization of pot in Kahleeforneeya wouldn't affect the cartels in the slightest. They'd just shift sales to other states. It might inconvenience them, but it wouldn't hurt their overall profits.
As for the "gateway drug" argument, I don't necessarily think smoking pot will turn a person into a heroin addict, but I DO think that it can make them more...curious and apt to try other drugs.
"Hell, pot's not so bad, I wonder what LSD is like?"
I grew up in the 60's, during the hippie days. I saw LOTS of friends go that route...pot-->LSD-->speed-->cocaine or heroin
Do I think they'd have ever gone along that path if they hadn't smoked pot first? Nope...they may have drunk themselves into a stupor, but I doubt most of them would have ever used other drugs if they hadn't smoked that first joint.
I'm not saying alcohol is a bit safer...hell, alcohol kills lots of people every year in one way or another, but IMO, that's certainly not an argument FOR pot.
