I saw a story about this on the news tonight:

http://www.aolnews.com/nation/artic...laws-even-if-california-legalizes-it/19676146

"The Justice Department strongly opposes California's Proposition 19 and remains firmly committed to enforcing the federal Controlled Substances Act in all states, Holder wrote in a letter to former chiefs of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. The Associated Press obtained a copy of the letter, dated Wednesday.

"We will vigorously enforce the CSA against those individuals and organizations that possess, manufacture or distribute marijuana for recreational use, even if such activities are permitted under state law," Holder wrote."

So...it sounds like even if Kahleeforneeya legalizes pot, the feds will continue busting big growers and sellers...and even the occasional recreational smoker.

You really think the drug cartels are going to sit back and let their profits erode?

what I've heard is that Mexican pot distribution is 3% of California's trade.

So the argument that this could hurt them, is well, bogus. California grows it's own and keeps it within, for the most part.

The cartels won't be wasting any kind of resources to protect their 3%

We'll just send them over to Arizona and Texas, where they can continue to fuck up those worthless states. 🙂

Unfortunately, much of what's grown in Kahleeforneeya is grown by the Mexican cartels. It's not just an "import crop," they've very heavy into "agri-business" here as well.

As others have said, legalizing pot in Kahleeforneeya won't affect the cartels bottom line much at all. They'll just start shipping to other states.

I expect to see "local crime stats" to increase as folks try their hand at growing their own...and get ripped off...potentially leading to altercations and violence.

This might happen in some real rough neighborhood, but the majority of California wont see any of this.

Seriously why the fuck do they care?

The biggest problem is testing for it. How do you test for it? How do you know that someone's under the influence? A habitual smoker who wakes up sober and gets into his car to get some breakfast will pee 4000-6000+ on a pee test.

This is going to be the biggest point of contention.

The whole .08 thing is a crock of shit anyways. If I'm driving impaired, fine.. make that decision without a specific test because .08 is a completely different impairment for everyone.

I think that is how it will work. If it passes and you are caught with it by a state police officer your fine. But if its a Federal officer your screwed. But then again usually Federal officers do not patrol city streets...

Lol yeah well if it DOES pass then at least that's better than nothing I guess. Wonder how they would manage people growing it in their back yeard though. People might call it in as a "grow op" and then the feds might show up but if it's within the 25sq feet in prop 9 then you would still get busted? That would suck.

it's a hallu. drug by classification.

will it be abused? yes.

is it already abused? yes.

do other people abuse other legalized drugs? yes.

personally, I think there is enough medication out there to help heal and cure where mary-jane drugs are not needed, as research continues.

after all, shouldn't we be focusing on helping Americans advance their education and talents to fill the vacant jobs that require higher education and better training?

Do you support making alcohol illegal, making its possession sale and or production punishable by possible long jail terms and large fines? If you don't support this then the above is pure hypocrisy and bullshit.

yes, we should.

...so, where are the bills that make this stuff happen? I mean, All we'd need to do is vote on the "educate people and make jobs" bill, right?

:hmm:

anyway, it is not classified as a hallucinogenic drug. that's silly.

psychoactive.

and CBD has plenty of benefits that simply aren't available in the most restricted of legal drugs, b/c cannabis is class 1. It reduces nausea, kills pain, acts as a cancer cell-killing agent (in some cases) like nothing else.

it's almost a wonder drug....

Why should a company leave themselves open for a lawsuit because a stoner got hurt...or hurt someone else? Why should a company have to wait until a stoner fucked something up before testing?

Fuck that. If a company wants a drug-free workplace, they should be able to have one. Don't want to be drug-free? Work somewhere else.

So a guy likes to smoke a joint once in a while but can't work there because of your testing, but an alcoholic will pass and that's fine with you?

also, it's not really a drug-free workplace if you have people that drink. alcohol is a drug like any other, it's confusing why people like to separate it from the other drugs.

He's talking about on the job. I don't know of any job that allows anyone to drink while working, either.

The very valid problem with that is that accurate (legal) testing for being high while on the job--as opposed to having toked 2 nights ago--is sketchy, at best.

:\
