I'm not a USC fan at all.

You live in the state as do alot of the Sportswriters who voted them high all season long
MA?

The other state...the ones that actually have amateur/college teams other than Boston College

You mean CA? I don't live there. Are you suggesting that because I don't watch NASCAR, date within my immediate family or have a truck with a gunrack that I have a bias against Southern Schools?;)

which in turn narrowly lost to another division II team, Southern Illinois which incidentally did win their first 10 games. W Illinois still finished the season 9-4.

I'd say Southern Illinois is a better team than Louisiana Monroe. Certainly they are better than Arizona, perhaps even Notre Dame or BYU this year as well.

That would be "akin" :) to me saying I have a dislike for California and it's politics

They beat an on and off Michigan team @HOME, LSU beats a reeling Oklahoma team @HOME. The only difference would be the games before then and USC has had a cupcake schedule and only played teams that were not capable of beating them and they managed to lose to one of them as well.

LSU played a very good Georgia team that was quiete capable of beating them twice and beat them easily both times. They destroyed a team that went into Texas and handed them their bums. They escaped at Ole Miss. They have been tested and have passed. The same can't be said for USC

Who scheduled Marshall and had them back out at the last minute leaving them scrambling for an available opponent? Oh yeah that's right.

just got back from a vacation, so i haven't been reading or posting here, but obviously I'm an LSU fan, but I won't automatically say that LSU is better than USC but I don't understand how people can say USC is better than LSU. They are the two best teams in the country, currently number 1 and number 1, and until they play each other you can't say differently. I don't see how every sports site picks USC as their #1 and LSU as #2.

more importantly, I hope the falcons or bears don't convince Saban to leave.

Hmm. How about the [other] Miami team. Yeah, they lost the first game of the season to Iowa by a comfortable margin. And the teams they beat weren't the strongest of teams. But I was there for one game (Marshall). They beat the living crap out of my boys and then invited the cheerleaders and the waterboy to join in on the fun midway through the third quarter. They had the talent to play with the big boys.

The MAC deserves the Big East bowl tie-ins.

EDIT: but this is not about fairness or who deserves what. It's all about the money.

guys, before you get too excited about LSU's performance against Oklahoma, please keep this in mind...Kansas St looked even more impressive than LSU did against Oklahoma - and that is the Same D that gave up 28pts to Ohio St's offense, which wasn't exactly a juggernot this year (the other TD was defensive)....the fact of the matter is that Oklahoma and the entire Big 12 conference were WAAAAY overrated this year, I think Michigan would destroy Oklahoma as well....and if you think USC's 9 sacks against Navarre wasn't impressive, consider that Michigan had only allowed 15 sacks the entire season up to that point...

I think it would be a good game, but USC would win

I have to re-post this too..

Opening game? How about on the road at TOP 5 ranked Auburn - in fact, #1 ranked by quite a few publications. USC wins 23-0. Auburn finishes 8-5 with a bowl win over Wisconsin.
2nd game - home game against BYU - an average team, usually has a good offense...USC wins 35-18..BYU finishes 4-8
3rd game - Hawaii - USC wins 61-32....Hawaii finishes at 9-5 with a bowl win over Houston
4th game - At Cal - USC loses in OT 34-31...Cal finishes 8-6 with a bowl win over Virginia Tech - Cal played 8 bowl teams, including Kansas St (lost 42-28)
5th game - at Arizona St - USC wins 37-17..ASU finishes at 5-7
6th game - Stanford, USC wins 44-21..Stanford finishes 4-7
7th game - Notre Dame, USC wins 45-14 - this is the game that gives USC the most exposure to the East Coast Media, who for some reason continue to pay close attention to ND games for some reason - its the same game last year that wins the Heisman trophy for Carson Palmer...ND finishes at 5-7
8th game - at Washington, USC wins 43-23...Washington, like Auburn, was a highly ranked team coming into the season, with a good QB/WR combo, but with the coaching mess and opening day loss to Ohio St, they never get untracked, finishing at 6-6 with a win over rival Wash St.
9th game - Wash St. - USC wins 43-16..Wash St finishes 10-3 with a win over highly ranked Texas
10th game - at Arizona, USC wins 45-0..Arizona finishes a terrible season at 2-10
11th game - UCLA, USC wins 47-22 in their annual rivalry game....UCLA finishes at 6-7 with a bowl loss to Fresno St
12th game - Oregon St - USC wins 52-28, Oregon St finishes at 8-5 with a bowl win over New Mexico....several of you have pointed out that OSU passed for 450+ yards in this game, but if you look at the game itself, you'll see the story - OSU ran 33 times for 56 yards...and threw 60 passes! They had the ball a ton because USC scored so quickly when they had the ball..sorry the 2nd and 3rd string guys didn't keep OSU's first team offense down the whole game...
13th game - Rose bowl win over Michigan, 28-14...not really ever a close game against a very strong Michigan team.

So, you have 7 games against bowl teams. Wins over ND and Wash - talented teams having bad years (ok, ND has no QB, but still a ton of HS all-americans)...lets look at LSU, I think you will be somewhat surprised...

1st game - Louisiana Monroe, LSU wins 49-7....LM finishes 1-11
2nd game - at Arizona - remember them from USC's schedule? LSU wins 59-13..Arizona finishes 2-10
3rd game - Western Illinois - LSU wins 35-7..W.Illinois finishes 9-4...in DIVISION 1-AA
4th game - Georgia - LSU wins 17 -10..Georgia finishes 11-3, with 2 of those losses to LSU
5th game - at Miss St - LSU wins 41-6...Miss St finishes 2-10
6th game - Florida, LSU loses at home, 19-7...Fla finishes with a loss to Iowa, at 8-5
7th game - at South Carolina, LSU wins 33-7...SC finishes 5-7
8th game - Louisiana Tech - LSU wins 49-10...Tech finishes 5-7
9th game - at Alabama - LSU wins 27-3...Alabama finishes 4-9
10th game - at Mississippi - LSU wins 17-13....Ole Miss finishes 10-3 with a bowl win over Oklahoma St
11th game - Arkansas, LSU wins 55-24...Arkansas finishes 9-4 with bowl win over Missouri
12th game - SEC championship, LSU beats Georgia again, 34-13
13th game - LSU beats Oklahoma 21-14 in the Sugar Bowl...Ok finishes 12-2

Ok, so both teams played and clobbered Arizona, so lets cross them out of the comparison..

BYU is the worst team left that USC played...and I would say BYU is significantly better than M.St, W.Illinois, and L.Monroe
Lets take that a bit further - the 3 worst teams USC played were Stanford, BYU, and Arizona St...all are better than LSU's worst three, the trio mentioned in the previous sentence - so USC's 'easy' games were significantly tougher than LSU's...

lets look at what is left now....L.Tech, is still better than the previous 3 worst teams LSU played, so they compare to USC's UCLA game - to be honest, this one is sort of a toss-up...

Next up would be Alabama and S.Carolina, at 4-9 and 5-7...compare these two games to USC's ND and Wash games - again, I'll say USC's foes in this tier were much better teams..

So that leaves us with Florida, Ark, Ole Miss, Georgia 2x, and Oklahoma....the tide turns a bit here in LSU's favor....but not entirely...I'll say Florida is better than Cal, but would probably be a decent game.....Auburn beat Arkansas......Ole Miss is better than Oregon St......Georgia, for 2 games, takes up 2 USC games - Georgia is way better than Hawaii, but I think Wash St.-Georgia would be a nice game....and despite the final rankings, I'm going to say that Michigan would also beat up Oklahoma - Michigan is certainly better than K.St, and K.St physically beat up the Sooners.....

So really, when you look at their entire schedules, I don't see how you can say LSU's schedule was any better, or even as good as, USC's...their 'easy' games were very, very easy..much easier than anyone USC played...and their mid-level games were similarly against lesser foes than USC's were - to be fair, teams on both of their schedules had off years - Alabama, ND, Washington, and LSU didn't get to beat up on Vandy this year...playing Georgia twice is kind of an oddity too, but I'll stand by my statement that Wash St is at least comparable to one of those games..Georgia was much better last year, though still a solid team this year.

USC would own. It's not possible to stop their offense - the only way USC can lose is if they kill themselves.

They have so many dependable recievers between their TEs and wideouts, that LSU's biggest defensive advantage, the blitz, will be nullified - noone can dump the ball of better than Leinart. Think about it, they annihilated a Washington State team that calls blitzes on every play which were able to stop Vince Young at Texas.

Leinart is also a freaking surgeon - he was able to pick apart Michigan's secondary - ranked among the top 3 in the nation which had only allowed something like 5 TD passes ALL SEASON. USC hung up 4 passing TDs by themselves. Leinart's precision combined with his recievers' amazing amount of raw talent and fact that they are the best coached offense in the nation = unstoppable.

Spoken like a true LSU fanatic.

I have no allegiance to either school - my take is based on watching both schools play all year.

well i dont know who would own who
it wud be a nice game to watch though

but i read something interesting on SI i think
LSU's defense is the best by far,
USC's defense is very good too

but the diff between LSU's defense and USC's defense is far less than the diff between USC's offense and LSU's offense

They agreed to play by the BSC rules before the season started. LSU is the BCS champ - end of story.
