This is definately a rip off of one of the zombie mods for the source engine HL:2.


I've played this version, which I think is inferior to the Zombie Panic mod.

Cool that it is going to 360 but not cool that were going to end up paying for a user created mod (Although those users now that created this will be making some cash)

All the zombie mods like zombie panic were fun but clearly they were amateurish and the gameplay was never very focused.

We're not paying for a mod, we're paying for a highly polished (by Valve) idea that may have been originally SPARKED by a mod... but it's not really that close to the mod from what I've seen and played. IMO CS was a direct port of a mod with very little change, but L4D seems like they took the core idea of zombie survival and flushed it out like crazy.

I'm torn though, as my PC doesn't run things very well so I lean towards the 360 version. BUT I got the orange box for the 360 and feel basically screwed with TF2 there as there's been no map updates and very little people are playing it. I don't want to get screwed again...
 
What Powernick probably doesn't realize is that Left4Dead began development in 2005. And I mean, there were zombie games before it, sure, but it's trying to be unique and bring something new to the table, which is why it has taken so long to make. Calling it a rip off is insulting, because it's more of a "back to the drawing board" effort for the zombie genre.

Skace its either a Rip off of the zombie survival mod or its made by the same people.

if its made by the same people then my bad. If not. Consider it an insult then.

I think you will change your tune when this is actually released, assuming you give it a try.
 
This looks 1,000 times better than any of the Source zombie mods I've played.

Yah, i play zombie survival on garrys mod and left 4 dead sounds nothing like it, they both have zombies, thats about the only similarity there.
 
Been waiting for a co-op "dawn of the dead" for ages. I just hope it's long and deep like a single player game like System Shock 2 and not one of those Friday night arcade party games where you can finish every scenario in an hour. Players forcibly separated and free roaming separate areas and huddling in corners scared for their lives, solving puzzles and unlocking mysteries of the story and trading items and not just a Gears of War shoot em up on rails.

From what I've seen it looks like a fast action run and run shoot em up and not really survival horror 🙁 600 zombies jumping at you at once and having to mow them down with a shotgun or having to pump 3 mags into one super zombie is only suspenseful once or twice then it just gets tedious ala Serious Sam.

None of the videos I've seen show any sort of slow or eerie or creepy moments of silent exploration, just constant shooting of unlimited zombies.

Yep, Valve has done this several times and I think it's a great business model. It's a big risk for a company to take a new unproven idea and spend millions to make a AAA game out of it. But if the idea has already been proven to be fun in a user created mod, then it's much less risky to develop it into a AAA game.


 
First, i suggest anyone who says that its total crap checkout the video with gabe newell explaining the technology that drives the game

secondly, its made by the people who made counter strike...now if you hate counter strike...obviously this wont mean a thing to you, but to me it means that it has potential to be a very strong game...

there is a lot of subtlety to the game that i think isnt that obvious at first

Some people just cant tell a good game from a bad one, its the whole reason EA is still in buisness. I struggle to believe it but some people dont like starcraft either... yeah its a crazy world the internet.

Remember, younger and younger, and more ADD minds are buying computers and consoles every year. It doesn't matter that (take EA for instance) a game comes out that is merely a re-skinned near carbon clone of a game that came out 3 years ago. The newer generation will embrace it with open arms while some of us older gamers (who forgot to grow up) stand there like "Whuh, this can has a flavor of fail".
It's all in perception really. I'm in the easy to entertain crowd. L4D looks really fun. A good multiplayer co-op with oodles of sensless violence is always a plus with me. The downside is, that despite great graphics, gameplay, and animation, there's only so many times running through the same map, heading toward the same goal at the end of the same street can be interesting and fun. Regardless of how many zombies and how randomly they spawn.
The plus side: It's on teh Steam. There are so many mods that take a game that's getting rusty and spice it up a bit. A great developing and modding community can prolong the eventual death and reincarnation of a game dramatically. I think that's why many of Valve games are so popular. You can make the parts of the game you don't like exactly how you want them to be......then you and some friends can go at it and each other with a crowbar.
In short, I'm 99% sure I'll be getting L4D. I hope it comes with a good level editor. I'm not so much a fan of re-skinned zombie games as I am of Valve giving modders a creative license with each game it makes.
 
Let me reiterrate myself.

Contrary to what I've said.. I will BUY the game. Number 1 is, I love Zombie Panic..this game is similar.

Number #2 Valve rules.

Co-op games rule.

Zombie Panic is a great fun mod and its free. Anyone know the price point of this game? 29.95 would be perfect.
 
Wow, I appear to be a minority... I watched 6 trailers with my son and went Meh...
All I saw was fill the skies with lead, mow everything in front of you down...

Maybe the coop was not really "pimped" in the trailers... Cause that sounds interesting..
BUT It seemed too "twitchy" for any sort of Coop...

Hell.... COD 4 gets too twitchy for teamwork at times.. This was COD 4 on crack...


It so reminded me of a game I bought years back... You run (and run and run) and just kill wave after wave and wave of demons... zzzzzzzzzzzzz then, after running up the longest canyon street alley whatever... You came to a boss..


IDK.... Maybe I am not a fan...

I'm not a fan either...but I'm going to buy into all the hype I am hearing because its a valve game.

Personally I still think Zombie panic looks better judging from the trailers..My only complaint about panic is the zombie speed/abilities suck.

We'll see..I'm hoping im dead wrong because zombie games rule!

Zombie Panic has some game breaking bugs. I'm sure they will get ironed out and when they do it will be a much, much better mod. You can basically bottle neck the zombies and throw objects in their path that they can't get around, thus making the map impossible for them.

As for Keeper, too twitchy for coop is an odd saying, considering 2 of the best coop games ever are both twitch based games: Doom 2 and Serious Sam. However, not everyone has to like Left 4 Dead. It will be amazing though.
 
Sorry to be a thread necro.

But... Its a 49.99 game (which IS industry standard to some extent) but I dunno...

I was thinking 29.99 I would have for sure bought it.

39.99 if I started hearing ALOT of hype after it was released..

: / Guess i'll wait for it to go on sale somewhere
 
$50 is about $20 more than I was hoping for, but I imagine I'll just end up getting it anyway.
