What he failed to mentioned was that the Grizzlies also got:

All of that is a joke. Marc Gasol is decent, but nowhere near Pau's level. The only reason Marc is excelling is due to Zach Randolph. The Grizzlies draft horribly, and there is rarely anyone to be drafted worth mentioning when drafting last in the first round.

Wow, a lot of crap slinging in this thread. Time to join in!

1. Scottie Pippen cannot be compared to Lamar Odom. I'm a Laker fan and I can tell you that Lamar doesn't play with 1/4 the heart that Pippen did. It boggles us when he goes for 18/10 one night, then puts up a putrid 5/4 the next. Inconsistency is his mantra.

2. Even if Wade, Bosh, and LeBron all sign together, what's left over will not be enough to get the role players needed. Again, like I mentioned earlier, this is the last summer before the CBA reduces salaries. Why get a 1 year minimum dollar deal when you can secure the money with a team that can still contend for the title?

3. No, they will not beat the Lakers if they get that far. Artest guards LeBron. Raja Bell (hopefully) and Kobe switch off on Wade. Gasol, Bynum, and Odom take care of Bosh (more on this later). Of course, if Raja doesn't sign, then it gets trickier. Vujacic will have to step into his "I'm so annoying that not even my own people like me (See: Goran Dragic).

And really, all this Bosh=superstar talk needs to end. Never gotten out of the first round? Never been a threat to take over a game? Poor defense? (not Amar'e poor, but really, you can't match Joakim's game?)

Put Bosh on a team as the main guy and surround him with support. Okay, that's what Toronto did. They went nowhere.

Now do the same for LeBron. They've gone to the championship, made it to the Eastern Conference finals, and gotten to the second round a few times.

Now do the same for Wade. Last season, his team was WORSE (player wise) than Toronto. Yet, they made the playoffs.

What does that tell you? You can build around the latter two, but Bosh as your #1 will not win a title. That is the #1 reason why he went to Miami...Wade can be the #1 that he needs. Bosh can be a great #2, just like Gasol, but he needs that #1 in order to contend.

That's why, the best thing for LeBron is to either go to Chicago and win massive championships (all pieces in place), or go to New York and be the #1 to Amar'e's #2. In Miami, it's a logjam. They already have a #1. We all know there can be no #1a and #1b (See: Kobe and Shaq).

You want to know something about Kobe (or any single star), he NEVER one won by himself either. His first three rings were because of THEM (Shaq and Kobe with Shaq getting the 3 Finals MVPs) and his last two were because of THEM (Kobe and Pau with Kobe getting 2 Finals MVPs). The Lakers would be a 7 seed or worse if the Grizzlies did not give Pau to them for free.

Jordan did not win anything without Pippen.

Duncan had Robinson and then Manu and Parker.

Wade had Shaq in his last year of really being worth anything.

You aren't going to find a team that stands out as saying "Oh they won solely because of HIM. That HIM helps a lot, but that HIM does not make a whole team. It takes more than 2 superstars, you need role players also. One person does not make a championship team, look at LeBron so far or look back at Jordan when he averaged 37/7/7 and they did not win the title.

It takes a team to win.

Unfortunately, LeBron isn't winning anything in Cleveland.

I agree, no one wins alone but again the major thing here is that help was brought in for those you mentioned and in Jordan & Duncans case, they were drafted into their respective teams... Miami however, was built around Wade so if they win, it is more of a Wade victory than it is a Lebron victory. The fans will cheer him on first before the King. Thus Lebron has to take a back seat to the victory behind Wade when they win. Is that not a fair assessment? But again, like I said, if he only cares about the ring then it's not an issue, otherwise, I don't expect Heat fans to brush Wade aside and pat Lebron on the back for another win, it's just not going to happen.

Lebron having a one hour 'selection special' is freaking stupid. Well, I guess it won't be stupid in ESPN's eyes if people actually tune in.

It is not a fair assessment any more as the Heat only have 2 players under contract and to sign LeBron to a max deal they have to trade away Beasley which leaves them with Chalmers only. The team as of now is not built around Wade any more. If the three stars are there then the team will be built around the three stars, it is not built around Wade alone. Although Miami drafted Wade it is the only thing they have had for a while.

This will be their team.

ESPN and every other major media place would have televised his decision and charged for ads when they did. So, why can't LeBron do this in return and take the money and donate it to charity?

If the media does it, it is ok but if a player does it, it is wrong?

I'm not sure where you read into my statement and assumed I thought it was ok for the media to do it. I think it's dumb regardless of who is doing it. Now, if you're telling me that all money generated by this one hour is being donated to charity then that's awesome. I had no idea.

no, the main reason was to feed his own ego.

if he cared that much and wanted to raise money for charity, he could've quietly donated a few million of his own money from his eventual billion dollar endeavors.

this is nothing but a publicity stunt to build his "brand".

I have heard people complaining a bunch that he is doing it, but the media making money off him is never mentioned.

Yeah, he is donating the proceeds to The Boys and Girls Club if I recall correctly. It is going to a charity.

I have actually heard that is hurting his "brand". I like the idea because he is taking the money and donating it to charity.

Also, KD was not a free agent, so his extension is nothing more than extending his rookie contract. I notice his is in the first post, but he had no chance of anything other than extending with his team.

One of James' conditions was that all of the advertising revenues during the hour be donated to this charity. ESPN says they aren't paying Lebron, but essentially they are and Lebron is donating it to charity. I think its a great move by James tho.

As for the media coverage of this, it is what it is...let's not forget this is a guy who's high school basketball games were broadcast on espn, lol.

I think that's a stupid reason to call him out on... If someone offered you a way donate to a charity by standing in front of a camera for an hour would you say no and just write away a chunk of your income instead?

That's not to say he's not doing it to feed his ego but that he could have donated his own money is not a very good excuse.

it's hurting him because this is the most egotistical free agency ever and people are sick of it.

and not just lebron, but wade/bosh as well.

The media has made money off him for a long time, let him make some of the money and donate it. Personally, I like the idea.

On the Kobe and Shaq comparison I have to disagree. Wade/LBJ/Bosh have been discussing this for at least 2 years. They want this to happen, they are willing to give up money and work with each other to make it happen. Also all three of them have been good friends for quite awhile. I understand things spring up all the time, but I have no doubt that as long as they are having a good time and winning it'll be an amazing show those three put on.

Not to mention Wade has shown little to no ego at all while at Miami even when Shaq was over here and took some of the spotlight. He knows Lebron is the better overall talent and he would have ZERO issue being #2 or #3 if it was better for the team. Plus with Riley at the helm personality issues will be near non-existent within the team. I'm excited as ever for the Heat, even if we don't get Lebron at least Wade has someone else to help him win some games.
