You think Gasol could carry a team on his own? I don't think so. All he does is flop, like all the other European playesr out there(including the soccer players).

no one person can carry a team by himself. jordan was absolute proof of this. lebron got a taste of that, kobe, wade and pierce got a taste of it. you need two or three high calibre players on your roster these days in order to be able to compete for a championship. michael needed pippen and rodman, kobe needed shaq, and then gasol, pierce needed KG and allen, and wade needed shaq. even magic needed kareem and worthy.

Kobe was doing it all by himself and getting into the playoffs before Gasol came. So yes, Kobe did carry the lakers.

question is, did he win it all? no. and that's what the standard is. who cares how many times he got in the playoffs, everyone will be measured only by how many rings they have. each and everyone one of the superstars i have mentioned ABSOLUTELY needed another star player to take the heat off of him. none of them could carry their team to a championship alone.

How many Championships did Kobe win without Shaq? How many did he win without Gasol? How many did Wade win without Shaq? How many has Dirk won? What about Lebron in Cleveland? How about Paul Pierce before Ray & Kevin came around? What about Dwight Howard in Orlando?

A single player doesn't win a championship. They can win games. But they won't win series or titles. A team does.

That being said Gasol was the lifejacket that kept the Lakers afloat when Kobe/others were sputtering. He was an excellent rebounder, hit critical shots when he was given the ball, made excellent passing decisions, was a shot blocking threat on the defensive end, and hit his free throws. You can not ask for anything more from a player of his position. He is at the top of the class for the PF/C position.

Exactly Kobe went no where and everyone needs help around them. This team HAS to win the Championship. HAS to.

I feel the same way. I lost some respect for him. You couldn't get it done being the main piece. So now you go join two other guys for the ride. Maybe he is just not as good as many of us thought.

There is no "i" in "team".

I thought he was putting on a big show for the media all this time just so he could say he is staying.

Guess not.

he totally had me fooled as well. too bad for cleveland though. i can say this however, this is pretty much the cle. front office fuck up. they SHOULD have brought in more all star calibre players when they had lebron. they didn't so now they and the fans are left out in the cold again.

jordan is one of the few who did it all without a true center.

he had centers. bill cartwright and the aussie. they just weren't all star HOF types like shaq. but they more than held their own, especially in the triangle offense that wasn't center based.

You miss the point. Gasol isn't the type of player that can carry his team to the playoffs. Wade is. James is.

"Free agents all over the league were telling their agents to get them to Miami -- somehow -- so they might hop the magic carpet and inherit some championship rings.
All because the Miami Heat, at 9:27 p.m. Thursday, became the most celebrated, talked-about, envied, hated and despised team in the NBA, and maybe in all of American sports, with due respect (and animus) to the New York Yankees."

The front office and the owner look pretty stupid right about now.

James is the most dominant player in the game right now while at the same time he clearly has a much better chance of winning a ring by going to atleast 2-3 other teams. They fvcked up.

I miss no point. Because making it to the playoffs is just as much a function of a weak conference/division than anything else. And making it to the playoffs means shit if you don't win a championship.

your argument is moot, this orignal argument was that kobe could do it all by himself. as well, gasol did carry this team during a really rough offensive stretch. had he not, the team would not have made the playoffs.
