Just a little FYI...

Newsweek just started a poll about 30 minutes ago. 1000 respondents across the country. It should be completed by tomorrow night, but some results MAY be reported tomorrow.

I will try my best to post questions, and a frequency report (counts and %'s). If anyone is interested in doing some crosstabulations, lmk via PM.

The questions are not just about who won a debate. There are tons of questions, many which do not get reported. It's about a 7 to 10 min interview, about 30 questions, with tons of other data. The sample purchased for most of these kinds of studies have everything, addresses, registered party, gender, age, birth date, race, and other things such as how they voted in primaries and other elections, etc. I did not get a chance to look at this sample, just the questionnaire. There will be some data comparisons between Nader and non-Nader states.

It would be if it accurately foretold the election results, but as things stand neither party has any real "breathing room".

I have no political affiliations so I like to interject observations at times. Being a swing voter and a proponent of logic, I must admit that the debates have left me more apt to vote for Kerry. Both are fallable, have skeletons in their political closets, carry "baggage", ect. ect. ad infinitum. What has swayed me at this time is my impression that Kerry is possessed of a greater intellect than the C&C and will be better able to negotiate the complex morass of global politics and economics. Skills I believe are intrinsic to the office. I try not to put too much weight in Kerry

I may well be erroneous in my observations, suppositions/hypothesizing, and subsequent conclusions *I'm certain from my experience with message boards that some will be quick to point out that in fact, I am wrong ;) Some in terms that will be stated as incontrovertible fact, others in terms of having evaluated matters much as I have done but having drawn a different conclusion from them* but I would equate many of our current president's policies as "A bull in a china shop" While I find Him personable and likeable, that is a poor criteria upon which to base my vote.

Kerry by my estimations is the consumate politician; slick, professional, well spoken, and prepossessing. In other words fake, an actor playing a role, but skilled and talented at it. The stark contrast to President Bush's brash and very real "good old boy/plain folk" image is one I believe resonates better with other world leaders, though obviously not with the average American who can at least relate to the president and find his "keeping it real" refreshing. While Kerry certainly has many weak points, I feel the republican controlled house and senate provides the traditional checks and balances, and I would welcome this dynamic again as the present atmosphere of near presidential Carte Blanche is politically unhealthy IMO.

The final factor in my decision to vote for Kerry is that it'll ruin Hillary's run in 4yrs  Something I think most all of us regardless of affiliations, or lack thereof, can agree must be prevented at all costs

Damn, yet another reason to vote this year. Unfortunately I really hate both these candidates. I've never voted for a Dem in my life, short it may be (28), but I almost want to, just to help kick Bush out of office.

With candidates like these, it appears we have built our own HAL. Can we turn it off, or at least reboot it?

I'm OK with that as long as it doesn't turn out to be WindowsME ;)

Well it looks like Nader is making a difference.

In the Newsweek poll we started last night, Bush and Kerry were tied in non-Nader states. However, in Nader states, Bush had a 4 point lead.

Just to let you know how this was done....

People who lived in non-Nader states, got the question...

"If the elections were held today, and the candidates were GWB and John Kerry, for whom would you vote?" (candidate names were rotated randomly) Respondents were able to say Nader, but were not read his name in the question. Although in Nader-states, his name was read along with Bush and Kerry.

Interviewing ends this weekend. I will try my best to post full details.

I cannot wait until these damned elections are over, we have been busy as hell this month. On some days, I alone am getting 4 to 5 projects a day into the field.

You're too rational to be a redneck, Red Dawn. How about we call you "compassionate country"?

This is just a copy-paste of what I put on the Off Topic version of Bush/Kerry Debate #3 so all references are according to that thread, but is still relevant here.

Debate 1: Kerry
Debate 2: Kerry*
Debate 3: Tie

Interesting how both threads address Bush's foaming mouth because that actually seems to indicate the general thread's attitude about him.

As for my opinion, the jist of it shows from the debate score above, but there are a few things I'd like to discuss more specifically after reading this thread.

Jesus Factor: Some replies believed Kerry laid in on thick about his religious beliefs, which I agree, but using it to advocate one's decision, which Bush did for the war on terror, I don't believe should be used to represent the entire diverse nation. There was even a documentary on Bush's Jesus factor that I suggest everyone to see b/c I don't think it's as controversial nor contain facts that seem bent in any way.

Cheney's daughter: It did seem a little awkward for Kerry to mention her, like a couple replies believed, but not completely innopropriate. The issue was on gay and lesbian rights after all and what their views were, in respect with being a choice and how either would enable their rights for them to live in our society.

"The plan": Bush's plan is pretty clear to me, and most other people it seems, because it's already commensed. I'm not too sure why there's confusion of Kerry's though. The message I got about it is that it's a complex one.

Maybe it was in Debate #2, but he clearly mentioned that it's not so cut-n-dry as the president says it is. There's obvious complexity in making decisions for the nation b/c it will somehow ripple effect through all aspects of our society, so simply fixing one thing won't just change that one. It's like a tree soaking up water and absorbing the Sun's energy. If one of its branches were to be cut off, it does not just heal/regrow that branch, but continually distribute it's resources throught the entire body while patching up the exposed branch. I think I've gone off on a tangent long enough, but I felt the idea that Kerry had with this response was very important as how he understood the dynamics of being a president encompassing everything that makes America what it is (this is all of course through his unfortunately better speaking skills as I'd wish Bush could be on equal terms).

Unfortunately I can't give specifics of his plan not only b/c of its complexity from the couple minute responses, but because I personally get bored of economic domestic plans, which was the main plan I believe that people were referring to in this thread. I can really only say that I remember him listing many reversals of Bush's plans and how some didn't seem effective enough to even exist like the No Child Left Behind plan. I honestly don't know how effective it is, but to me, he did give pretty concise examples of actions according to his plan throughout the debates.

I'm still waiting for a downloadable video of Debate #3 to watch it again more closesly, but it is clear that Bush did improve on this debate. It's clearly not a knockout of any kind in my mind though. The foaming mouth and hysterically unique laughing gestures didn't really help either.

This is freakin' long and so anybody who has the patients of reading it will most likely have opnions from this, but I'm a bit sporadic on this forum so I'll most likely not respond unless it stays ontop for awhile, but I still encourage further discussions.

So who are u talking to? In case u are talking to me, no I'm not a nerd. If I was to choose, though, Id rather be a nerd any day than to be ignorant. I'd admit that Bush did much better on the last 2 debates than "his first". And I can see if you think he won the third debate, even though I would disagree but I can see how a republican would say that. At Bush's second debate he still got very angry, was very inpolite to the host of the debate and his opponent. You could see the signs of a sour loser written all over his face. I watched the media disect some of the issues after the 2nd debate had ended. A lot of them picked at data that was given from both sides. But if you had followed politics closely, which I doubt for most of you republicans still going Pro Bush, the numbers and data supported by the Kerry campaign is correct. If you guys ever took statistical analysis in college, you'll know that numbers could be manipulated in various ways. To the novice there may be only one number that is the correct answer for a question, but by manipulating certain factors, word, phrase, etc you can make everything a possible answer.

Unfortunately for the uneducated, ignorant people living in this country you are all being preyed on by the Media (try reading a book called "What democratic media?" for source) and the Republican party. The republicans have been beating down on the media because of their associations with the democratic parties reguarding to policies. SO the republicans would crap a media source if they ever show of certain things being unfair. Whilst most media today in America is owned by big corporations, therefor a likely candidate of republicans, the media are controlled from all sides falling anywhere but towards democratic side. If in doubt, always refer to a true source of information, The NY Times. It is one of the most credited source of media in the country and the world. Though, most republicans would claim that this source is too liberal (one example of the crapping), but the truth of the matter is, everything NY Times will post is the truth. They will post info on boths sides and investigated in detail (with one exception, but they have caught their mistake and appologized for it -Iraq war) .

This has always been strange to me and I could never figure this out. The liberal party is looking after the middle class, and the lower class. The Republicans are only looking after themselves, the upper class. Since the upper class only accounts to 1% of the population while, the leberal party is looking after the other 98+% of the population, you'd think who is the obvious choice for the people. If you are a middle class or a lower class and you are a republican, then I'd say you have been manipulated. If you have doubts, then ask yourself how many people you know have lost jobs over the past 4 years; what happened to your health care, flu shot; What about the record high surplus before Bush's reign and now to a new low in the past 50 yrs.

The truth is if you want to trust the corporations for the things that you need such as education, healthcare, then they will take a lil away from you at a time, untill you have nothing in the end. The quality of life will disapear in this country, at least for the middle class and the poor. The rich will get richer, while the middle will slowly disapear to the poor class.

I am sorry to red dawn that I had to crap on you. I shouldnt have, but I am a lil fed up with how everything is turning out. I bet if some of you republicans take some time to investigate on "credible" sources between the 2 candidates, then you'd see who is the obvious choice.

In short, another term of Bush will eventually cripple America. His tax cuts will go permanent, and his other policies that are aimed to benefit the rich will pass too. I have pity on us all (except for the rich) when that happens.

Again I apologize for the crapping, Red Dawn.
